4-0 out of 5 stars More than just a cookbook
I bought this book mostly for the recipes. It is full of the "philosophy according to Ted" (which I love by the way). The book may leave you wanting more if all you want is a wild game cookbook.I do have to say that the recipes are excellent. My kids beg for the Deer Stroganoff. It is also one of my all-time favorite dishes to eat with the deer that I harvest.I have tried several recipes from the book and all were accurate and very tasty. Thanks to Uncle Ted for creating more than a cookbook - I read from it while I am cooking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reading This Book is a Meal in Itself
I don't hunt and haven't yet prepared big game dishes, but I'm always on the lookout for new recipes with which to expand my repertoire. This book made me resolve to take up cooking big game.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Man'sCookbook
As my husband loves to hunt wild boar and wild duck, I bought this book for him as a farce. However, it has turned out to be a great purchase. We both were at a loss as how to clean, store and cook wild game until "Kill It and Grill It" came along. This is the only cookbook I've bought that my husband hasn't complained about and it's an entertaining and "colorful" read as well. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like what iowa's Cousin Rick Black Has!! Give us The Deer Burger Cookbook anytime!
Cut and Dry.. Iowa's Cousin Rick Black is by far the leader with us deer hunters and how we cook our harvest. I got a copy of 301 Venison Recipes from my uncle. I asked him why he was tossing it out? His reply? "Heck boy, I got The Deer Burger Cookbook and the Venison Cookbook by Cousin Rick Black"!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
One of the most comprehensive books I've ever owned on the subject. This book covers everything from how to sharpen a knife to skinning and butchering deer, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, quail, and coon. There are also several recipes in the back for each of these animals.Good pics, good information, good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars deer on the living room table
When I came home there was a dead deer on my living room table (yes I was shocked because it didn't belong there) and my husband was looking at it holding a knife. He didn't look so sure what to do.I got this book from the library which explains in very detailed pictures how to "disect" the animal. It worked so great I bought him the book for xmas and we have used it several times for deer, turkey and the great recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Game Cookbook Available
As an avid hunter and fisherman, I am always looking for great game recipes. This book delivers. I have owned it for many years and have prepared virtually all of the many venison recipes, as well as many others. I have never been disappointed. Some favorites include Buck with Bourbon, Venison steak with Porcini mushrooms, Devil River Venison (a spicycasserole from Texas of venison with pinto beans), and the Scottish classic Steak and a Dram (venison steak in a sauce made with Stilton Cheese and just a dash of Scotch Whisky). Another favorite is Heart of Venison Braised with Root Vegetables. Even if you don't like heart this dish will make you a believer. There are also many great ground venison recipes. For anyone who hunts or fishes and loves to eat what they catch, this book would be an outstanding choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
The details of how to perpare the many unique recipes is easy to read, follow, and understand.Although it is primarily for wild game, many of them can be substituted with domestic meat to provide an excellent meal. Most of them are very easy and quick, the one's I've tried are excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Cookbook
This cookbook is perfect for anyone whether you eat wild game or not. These recipes can be converted to use pork, chicken and beef. What I really like is that the recipes use spices and different ingredients that I have in my cupboard and I do not have to run to the store for every recipe.Saves time and money and I do not have a bunch of ingredients that I will never use again, because this author incorporates alot of the same spices and ingredients over and over. The recipes are easy to read and do not need hours of preparation. In the back of the book is a wonderful section of savory dishes that compliment the other great recipes in this book.A must cookbook for everyone!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
If you live in Chicago and love to cook... this is an amazing book. A lot of the ingredients may seem hard to find but it seems that Treasure Island has all of the items.....4-0 out of 5 stars Give this to your hunter
He/she won't be able to pull off the recipes by him/herself, but you can put them onto some small task .... say, making a plum sauce to dribble over the final product ... to keep them out of your hair while you do the heavy work. In fact, think of these recipes as team projects ... that's probably the only way to get everything to the table at serving temperatures. Your hunter will beam with pleasure. You will be a god/dess in his/her eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't try this at home!
Have you ever traveled cross-country to Chicago just to dine at Charlie Trotter's? I have, and it was one of the best meals of my life. This book and the others in the series are great at giving you a feel of what the real thing is like. The pictures are outstanding and the combinations just wow you. But if you think for a moment that any cookbook would allow you to duplicate what Charlie does, you are mistaken. Some cookbooks are for those who want to follow a recipe and duplicate it. This is not one of those. This is for people who want to understand the Chef's unique cuisine and appreciate it for the art that it is. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The complete game cook book!
If you're looking to cook up some wild game brought home by your camo sport'en, shotgun haul'en, wildlife hunter, this is the only book you're going to need. This cook book covers any wild animal you might see in the woods, stream, or back yard, and gives wild game renditions of popular recipes from across the country. Some of my favorites are Spring Spring Rolls of wild duck, Moose Meatballs with Cranberry Barbecue Sauce, Sour Cream Rabbit with Herbs, Squirrel Pot Pie, Dove a l'Orange, and Elk Camp Roast. This book has beautifully colored detailed pictures of every recipe, and easy to read directions including per serving health information. This is a full size book but is loaded with all the extras. In the back, it even gives fool proof picture and descriptions on the how to's of wild game sausage grinding, seasoning, and stuffing. There are also some incredible recipes for jerky NOT TO BE MISSED!Try the Dakota Jack Hot Venison Jerky! This is a must have cook book for the outdoorsman!Although this book isn't as compact as I was hoping, now that I have it, I wouldn't want to have sacreficed any of the pictures or recipes because it covers everything and is complete! My husband is going to be busy hunting this fall so I can keep my kitchen full of flavorful smells!Tell Auntie Mae off of the Beverly Hillibilly's that there's a new chef in town and I can match her possum belly stew!
5-0 out of 5 stars This book features the most varied and creative of all!
Because my husband's middle name is "hunter", we own numerous related cookbooks--this is THE best! 5-0 out of 5 stars Limpy knows his stuff!
Limpy takes the guess work out of sausage making. This book should be in every kitchen. From simple to complex, Limpy covers it all. I've tried some of the other sausage books out there. I've yet to find anything as good as this. Limpy brings you into the 21st century with his techniques. Some books are so out-dated you could make people sick. Limpy hides no fact or detail. You can trust him to show you how it's supposed to be done. I've been cutting wild game for over 15 years. I've come to rely on Limpy's book to guide a successful wild game processing business / sausage making business. Thanks for the wonderful book Limpy. Also, thanks for all you gave in Vietnam to make sure the rest of us could live free! Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
I found this book to be very helpful in the art of sausage making, the book had some very good hints and simple recipes that taste great.I found Limpy also encourages you to alter his recipes to your own taste (I use half the salt and sugar).I can't wait to try his hot dog recipe whichlooks great and will allow my children to eat healthy hot dogs because Iknow exactly what is in them.I was originally looking for a duck sausagerecipe which was not in the book however, his helpful hints and otherrecipes allowed me to create my own excellent duck sausage recipe.(imaginea healthy sausage that is low in sodium and fat and taste great). ...
