5-0 out of 5 stars excellent juices
I recently bought this book and so far I really love it and enjoy every juice I make. I love the idea that she arranged the juices by the kinds of fruits and veggies you want to use and that every juice has ratings for immunity, detox, skin, energy and digestion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very few ingredients needed for tasty smoothies
Originally I bought this book for my father in law, who is a cancer survivor and on a liquid diet. I thought the immunity and energy smoothies would help. He loves the book, b/c he was trying to create his own smoothies, with some gross results. (not to mention a huge waste of money on the ingredients!) Then I decided to buy the book for myself. Last year I had purchased a $$ vita-mix blender from a home show and had never used it..(which pissed my husband off immensely) The book of recipes it came with had so many ingredients, some, in which my opinion werent the healthiest. This book is excellent, with most smoothies having just 3-4 ingredients! Our fave is Morning Mash, with an orange, 2 bananas, a pear and 8 tbsp of apple juice! Delicious!

I love this book!Almost all of the recipes I WILL use!I have tried a few and they came out so well. You won't regret buying this book if you love restraunt drinks. The variety of drinks is so great... shakes, refreshing drinks, cocktails, and making your own liquers.yummy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Todd has another hit!
I bought this book based on the fact that I LOVE all of the Top Secret Recipe books published and this one has to be in the top 3. Everything I've tried, my family and I have loved. One of my personal favorites is the [blended coffee drink]. However, the other drinks are just as good. 3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Book. But...
I saw this new book and got it mainly for the cool drink recipes that are in it. We tried several of them at home, but they did not quite taste like the drinks that we get at our local juice store. Maybe it's the ingrediants? Otherwise, the book was interesting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas
Very good smoothie ideas. I especially like the one for PMS, very tasty and works good on cramps. I make smoothies all the time and this book had some interesting tips and healthy ideas.

4-0 out of 5 stars fun - but Healthy??for EVERY lifestyle?
Sixteen of the recipes require sorbet, sherbet, or frozen yogurt. Two more call for Gatorade, and three more after that are cocktails. These smoothies may be healthy TREATS, but they are not healthy enough to replace meals.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not Such A Smooth Move
Since I had been so happy with the Corpening sisters' first smoothie book, I was eager to give this second one a try, too.Unfortunately, I find these *specialty* smoothies quite off-putting. *All* of the smoothies are made with healthful ingredients, and to imply that some are particularly beneficial for your immune system, heart, energy level, decreasing stress, etc., is just plain misleading! Then there are separate smoothies for men, women, and children, including one calling for breast milk or formula! As a single mom, I want to make just one smoothie that is suitable for both myself and my son! This is just plain silly!I'm sure that the majority of these recipes could be altered so that you could/would serve them to everybody in your family at the same time, (my son does not want to share a smoothie called "pms potion" with me!) but why bother when the recipes in the first book are already completely drinker friendly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious!
I highly recommend this book.I have tried most of the recipes so far and all are delicous, especially the chocolate raspberry smoothie and Eric's caramel-vanilla smoothie.I had to order some of the ingrediants on the internet, but I live in a very rural area, so others may find them more readily available.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in the blender isle
I purchased Dana Carpender's book 500 Low-Carb Recipes and was disappointed in the recipes and the ingredients. This book was no different. After reading the carb counts on her smoothies recipes as well as the ingredients she call for, they are not what I would consider low-carb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes
I love to have a smoothie for breakfast. I'm not a breakfast eater in general and I'm very tired of eggs, so I found this book to be very useful. I do replace most of the crystal lite drink mixes with kool-aid powder or extracts to minimize the amount of aspartame consumed, but they still taste great. This is not a book for people just starting out on a low carb diet, but its great for those who are steadily losing or who are maintaining their weight. Dana never disappoints us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Juicing for Health
I really enjoyed this book a lot.It has a lot of very helpful information regarding the benefits of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.I keep it in my kitchen cabinet as a quick reminder of what each fruit or veggie is doing for my body as I juice it.I also use it when talking to others about the benefits of juicing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy this Book for the Number of Recipies
Frankly, this book was kind of a disappointment.I bought it thinking it would have a lot of interesting recipes in it."Over 200 recipes" is claimed in the cover. But many of these combinations I could have thought up myself and they are very simple. The soups, smothies, and sorbet sections are very short with few recipes. Also, the English terminology/spellings can be annoying.Nutritional breakdown of every recipe would be helpful, but it is just given for the fruits and vegetables.I am sure the nutrition changes somewhat when you juice something. The color pictures are also not even in the same section as the recipe, which is also annoying. However, the quantities given for the amount of fruits/veggies you need to make the juices will be helpful. It also gives some basic information on each fruit/vegetable and what they are touted for. This is not a terrible book, but just not what I expected. If you want simple recipes and have no creativity, this may be the book for you.If you are looking for in-depth information and better recipes, this is not what you are looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars good basic juicing book
Some basic juicing information is given along with lots of recipes. But some of the information on juicing is taken straight from Jay Juiceman's book, right down to a few unsited direct quotes. The part that bothers meis that she fails to give him any credit anywhere in the book, not even arecommended reading list. So if it's more juice recipes you're after, getthis book, if it's more detailed information on juicing, get the book shequietly used as a source _The Juiceman's Power of Juicing_ by Jay Kordich. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Health Food Books I Own!!!!
My husband and I have been trying to switch from our unhealthy, sugar-laden, fast-food ridden eating habits to a more organic, whole-food way of eating for a few years now, but it is not an easy thing to do. One of the hardest parts for us was eating 5-8 servings of fruits and veggies everyday, especially when we were trying not to add any processed food to the mix.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for Juicer users. Otherwise, not the best!
`The Smoothies Bible' by Pat Crocker and `The Ultimate Smoothies Book' by Cherie Calbom both profess to be a complete guide to making all sorts of smoothies. In many ways, both are better than the book, `Smoothies for Life' by Daniella Chace and Maureen B. Keane which I reviewed recently. All three focus on making smoothies for good health, but `Smoothies for Life' does little else and depends heavily on ingredients available only in some health food stores.
3-0 out of 5 stars average book for the title
I agree with the other reviewer. There are alot of recipes with stuff I haven't even heard of.I have tried a couple of these with what ingredients I could find and it wasn't that bad or great either,Maybe tolerable would be the word.I would say if you can find the ingredients good but the book is average. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Most Smoothie Books
I bought this book and The Smoothies Bible. The Smoothies Bible, I don't really recommend because it was too redundant and the recipes were too similar. This book is the best book if you want smoothies like you get at juice bars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some Unique stuff, but certainly not the best smoothie book
`Smoothies, The Original Smoothie Book' by Dan Titus is the sixth book on smoothies I am reviewing. These six fall into three different categories. The first, with titles such as`The Smoothies Bible' by Pat Crocker and `The Ultimate Smoothies Book' by Cherie Calbom claim to be `everything you wanted to know about smoothies. In this category, the first is far superior to the second. The next category, with titles such as `Ultimate Smoothies' by Donna Pliner Rodnitsky and `The Best 50 Smoothies' by Joanna White are quick references, presumably with a selection of the best recipes. Again, the first of these two titles is the better in this class.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers What's Promised
I purchased this book based on what I saw at Amazon.com. The book delivers what is promised. I really liked the history of and profiles of the juice and smoothie companies that contributed recipes. As for the recipes: yum! Now I'm the smoothie pro in my apartment complex and smoothie parties happen at my place all the time! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed even after reading other reviews
I had read earlier reviews about the book being more of a "life style" book than a recipe book (there really are only about 40 smoothie recipes), but my biggest disappointment was that ALL of the recipes include either sherbet or frozen yogurt. For me a real smoothie is all fruit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Different than I was expecting - but a wonderful book!
I honestly picked this one up because I just wanted some good smoothie recipes.I wasn't expecting to get a comprehensive 21 day life changing health plan or a brief history of Jamba Juice.I might not have bought it if I had known that was what more than half the book contained.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Tasty Read
I absolutely looved this book, I have purchased several copies for friends and family. It is full of easy-to-read important health info (not usually my favorite reading subject) and practical tips for staying (or getting) healthy, becoming energized, and de-stressing! The recipes are simple and delicious, with a wide variety of flavors; with a family of five, this was especially helpful. I have been able to sneak my children?s vitamin and mineral supplements into their morning smoothies (a tip I had read in an article written by Dr. Oz regarding his own children). I hope to read more work by these authors in the future, until then I intend to keep my family Jamba Juicing at home- Thanks! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fancy Drinks, but not very practical
Do yourself a favor and pass buy this book if you are a professional bartender. I wasted my money on this book in hopes of serving up some new and different drinks. Most drinks were not practical to make because they contain unusual and expensive ingredients.I feel it's more of a special occasion book and it ends up collecting more dust then actual use.

5-0 out of 5 stars ok, so it's not the classics
I mean, there are the classics in here, like cosmos. But most of these are party drinks--you know, the cool drinks you wish you knew some bartender could whip up for you.The punches are the best. The best!In fact, this is my second copy, because my first got so water-logged after too many parties. What a fun book. It's not that stuffy "what a cocktail is supposed to be" book.I mean, that's great--but this is for parties, like the ones that need big pitchers of drinks, whether with alcohol or now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, but look out for bloopers.
Mr. Weinstein suggests serving a "Port in a Storm" (p. 174), a hot drink, on Father's Day.A hot drink in June?mmm... He also suggests serving the "Lemon Cheesecake Thick Shake" at a baby shower. With all due respect, Mr. Weinstein, ladies' parties generally feature chicken salad, diet soda, salad, and salad, and maybe a dessert. Most women wouldn't be caught dead drinking a milkshake in front of another woman.Although the drink suggestion for each type of party is a nice idea, I would find the drinks cumbersome to make, since most of the recipes serve one or two people. For a group, a punchbowl or pitcher recipe would work better. 5-0 out of 5 stars Her recipes are original!
I've had the pleasure of tasting almost every recipe in this book, and,-without a doubt, they are the most original I've sampled. There are other smoothie books out there, but they are mostly the yogurt, juice, banana and ice cube variety. This author turns smoothie making into an art.She relies upon seasonal produce to make both fruit and vegetablesmoothies. You'd never know they didn't have dairy, because they are socreamy and luscious tasting. Also, her smoothies may be served chilled orwarmed for seasonal enjoyment. I've served the smoothie recipes to myneighbors (kids as young as two years old), as well as friends (of allages) who stop by the house. Another highlight of this book is the author'sengaging message about health and healing. She shares her personal passionfor healing our bodies and the earth. Makes a great gift! Don't confuse herbook with another book with same title. Candia Cole's book is the'original' book,- "Super Smoothies": Taste The Nectar Of Life!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book...LOTS of pictures
This is my first juice book.I love the section on "super healthy juices" and "vital veggie blends".Good recipes for the serious juicer and for the those who want to have fun creating some exotic juice blends...check out "extra exotic coolers"Also, the pictures are WONDERFUL. They have color photos for the insturctions and the finish product for just about all the recipes.I highly recommemd this book to add to your juice book collection!

4-0 out of 5 stars Tasty mix of recipes
Beautiful pictures, delicious recipes, and sound bits of general advice such as "mix an acidic and a sweet juice together." The recipes offer a wide range of taste treats, from super healthy juices to tempting dessert drinks. While the authors recommend a juicer, I have made all the recipes I've tried so far (about half in the book) using a Magic Bullet blender without a juicer attachment. One suggestion to the authors for future editions: include the nutritional information for those of us watching our weight, sodium intake, and more. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fails on several counts compared to other smoothie books
`Ultimate Smoothies' by Donna Pliner Rodnitsky and `The Best 50 Smoothies' by Joanna White are the fourth and fifth smoothies books I am reviewing and it is appropriate to review them together and not review them in the same context as the first three, `The Smoothies Bible' by Pat Crocker, `The Ultimate Smoothies Book' by Cherie Calbom, and `Smoothies for Life' by Daniella Chace and Maureen B. Keane in that these two little books do not profess to be a comprehensive work on smoothies. They just profess to be little books on `the best' recipes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Smoothies are great for spring and summer
With Spring and Summer right around the corner, I was looking for a book with delicious smoothies recipes. Smoothies make a great breakfast in the warm weather. This book is simple, but the recipes are really great, and easy to follow. A really good book for anyone looking to get started making smoothies.
