You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
Simply the Best
This is truely the best of all the Weight Watcher cookbooks that I have seen.I have four others and use this one more than the others combined.It asks for standard ingrediants that you probably have on hand so it is easy to use.

Fast, easy and delicious!
"Get Togethers" contain some wonderfully delicious recipes!
Rachel multi-tasks!
More fine, quick recipes from one of my favorite cooks.Rachel knows how to reduce a recipe to its basics without compromising the taste.On the day it arrived, we found a recipe that had to be shared -- the Chili Casserole.I look forward to trying most of the others.I go back to Rachel Ray's cookbooks time and again -- many of her recipes have become standards in my cooking.But she can sure multi-task!I rarely do one up in thirty minutes until I have done it several times.

ALL of her books share the same major fault....
Don't get me wrong, I love her shows, it is great to see how she pulls it all together in the 30 minutes without seeming rushed. The recipes, for the most part, are pretty healthy and have good variety. The lack of pictures doesn't bother me, as she's not really into foo-foo presentation with raspberry sauce swirled half-a-mile away on the edge of the dessert plate, imho totally wasting perfectly good raspberry sauce....

Seriously vegan, Seriously good.
I'm not a great, witty writer, so simply said - this book is amazing, adorable, and will make you and your mouth and your vegan friends and your omnivorous friends happy.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for CUPCAKES
IsaChandra and Terry (I am referring to them like they're old friends, but I've never met them... but this is beside the point) are the Grand Poo-Bah's of Vegan Culinary (F)Arts. Vegan With A Vegeance, IsaChandra's solo effort, changed my so-called vegan life. There isn't a vegan cookbook to compare. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, along come the cupcakes, which seriously might jeopardize my ability to wear fitted pants.
WOW is all I can say...
I have been a wandering vegan for about a year now, and the only reason I wander is to indulge in delicious, yummy sweet treats that contain egg and/or dairy.I was so impressed with Isa's first book that I pre-ordered this one from Amazon, and I shall wander no more!Wow.This is a must-have for anyone who is vegan or allergic to dairy.You can pretty much recreate any of your favorite cupcake (or cake, for that matter - same recipes, different pan) recipes without the need for cholesterol-laden egg or milk products (calories are another story...).The layout of the book is wonderful, and the pictures are great!I am so excited to make these as gifts for friends during the upcoming holiday season.They'll NEVER believe they're VEGAN.I think that's the highest compliment any pastry chef could receive.5 GLOWING STARS!Thanks, Isa, for making veganism so easy and tasty :) ... Outstanding Book
I love this book! It has some great tips and recipes in it. Dream Dinners is the best meal assembly place in my opinion. You have to check this book out!
Great idea but too many errors
I have been intrigued with the concept of the Dream Dinners and I bought the cookbook to hold me over until a franchise opens here in Canada.I love the little excerpts about conversation starters and the like and all of the low(er) fat ingredients but sadly, I've tried 3 recipes so far, and all of them came out horribly.
Tasty Recipes, but many mistakes
I was so excited to purchase this book after reaading the great menus from the Dream Dinners store website.The recipes contained in the book are defintely different than what it offered in store, but they are still great meals. I really have no use for the other recipes besides the dinner/entrees.As a small family of three(with a one year old), we don't need these additional preparations.

I love this book!
Don't let the word "gourmet" intimidate you.These recepies are easy and delicious.They do take a little prep work, but it is worth it.I am a new crock-pot user, and have successfully cooked three recepies.I can't wait to try more.

Excellent book, quite different than most books on the topic

I liked it
I had to buy this book for my Quantity Foods course as a part of my Dietetics major. I actually liked the book, and I am going to keep it for later use. I thought the book was organized very well. Some of the charts in Chapter 2 and 5 that we used quite often were a little hard to find (because there are so many!).
Wow!!! A must have for all chefs
I had seen this book at a friends business and thought it was good.Since I have ordered and received it I have had the chance to really review the contents and find it one book that I can use daily.The CD rom is also fantastic in the number of recipes it contains.One nice feature is that you can size the recipes to what you need.Another great plus.Well worth the money. A must-have for any slow-cooker-loving vegetarian!
I love this cookbook! There are some really great recipes in it for every event, and every situation. The recipes are also comprised of everyday ingredients, not elaborate or exotic ingredients that no one has. Great stuff! A must-have for any slow-cooker-loving vegetarian!

Great vegitarian crock pot book
The recipes are good, especially the potatoe and pesto dish. I did not like the dish called Breakfast bread pudding,due to the fact I thought the flavors contradicted each other.

Best Little Book
I have used this and the previous edition for many years working in a country club.I just bought three of these for friends who have enjoyed my findings and got a kick out of my constant referring to my "bible" on food.If you are really interested in what things are made up of and where they originated, as well as some true tips for ease in food preparation this book is a wonder.These make 6 books of these purchased and it is one of those treasures that I must pass on to like minded freinds as a gift!

Awesome Book!
I am a college student and as I get older, I have started to realize my love of fine foods. One problem is, however, that when I hear food terms, I don't always know what they mean. This is where this book comes in. This has to be the most comprehensive book on food terms. It is great and really does a good job defining almost anything that you may come across. Absolutely best cookbook - don't be afraid to try to cook the amazing and tasty visual treats!
I first checked this book out of the library when my son was a baby and found really awesome recipes for baby food. I could hardly resist eating the peas, leeks and potatoe recipe myself even as a puree! The recipes for party foods were a huge hit for his first birthday. Overnight I became the star of our baby group!
Real people (babies) deserve real food
I used this book for both of my older children (now 7 & 4) and just dug it back out for our new little one (7 months old).Once again I am impressed by the variety of recipes presented.I think offering a wide variety of healthy foods from the start of solid feeding is one of the reasons I don't have any trouble introducing new foods to my older children now.They love their vegitables and enjoy trying all types of food even those that many adults would find new or exotic.I agree that some of the recipes take a bit longer than opening a jar and reheating.Many take the same amount of time as preparing a dish for an adult dinner...but since many of the recipies can be frozen (I make bigger batches and then freeze in small portions that can be thawed as needed)I only need set aside a couple of hours every month or so to have a wide variety of good and healthy dishes available to serve.
help for the cooking challenged
I really like this cookbook.I know my infant needs good nutrition, and now have a great resource to use.The book does use some "new" foods for my family, but now that we have stocked the kitchen it is a snap to try new healthy fun food.My son, 15 months, loves these recipes. WHY REINVENT THE WHEEL OF BLANDNESS
I WASTED MY MONEY AND TIME. I MADE THE BBQ PORK RIBS AND BAKED BEANS. THEY WERE EXTREMELY BLAND. THE AUTHOR MUST BE A NURSING HOME COOK. ONLY AFTER MIXING IN A WHOLE BOTTLE OF KC MASTERPIECE BBQ SAUCE AND WARMING THIS MESS UP AGAIN WERE THEY PALATABLE! IN WAY LESS TIME THAT IT TOOK TO SHOP FOR INGEDIENTS, PREPARE THE BLAND TASTELESS BBQ SAUCE AND THE BLAND BAKED BEANS, I COULD HAVE OPENED A CAN OF BUSHES' BBQ BAKED BEANS AND POURED A BOTTLE OF KC MASTERPIECE BBQ SAUCE OVER THE RIBS, THEN NUKED THEM AND HAD A TASTY MEAL. MY QUESTION IS, WHY GO TO THE TROUBLE, TIME AND EXPENSE TO CREATE A BLAND RECIPE WHEN THERE ARE ALREADY PLENTY OF TASTY BBQ BEANS IN A CAN AND BBQ SAUCES ON THE GROCERY SHELVES? Sounds stupid, but actually OK
My 12 year old son picked up this book and it's not all that it promises to be. I've certainly bought worse cookbooks! It's clear cut, concise and easily followed. The pictures of the canned items are actually a very ingenious idea.

This book is just what I needed.
I've seen some bad reviews of this book, but those people must not have needed it as badly as I did. I found this book after working through my chronic yeast infection for a year.
Excellent!
This book is well organized and easy to follow even for those who are new to the kitchen.When I started this diet this was the main book I used because it made things simple.I started out as a novice cook who was extremely anxious about all the work that I foresaw in giving up sugar, yeast, wheat...and now I don't find it all that difficult and I'm a better cook for it!My only criticism is that sometimes the recipes are too similar, but it does teach a novice like myself what foods work together and how to make alterations.

Turned our boy around
I thought I was fixing reasonably healthy foods, but was amazed to realize that even my all-purpose flour had "malted barley flour" lurking in it.Cooking with the express intent of minimizing neurotoxins has transformed our 6-yr-old high-functioning autism boy.We had seen multiple doctors, and had been told that to function in school he would probably need medication.On this diet, his explosive meltdowns disappeared almost completely starting from the 4th day on Stage III.We also use a probiotic (Kirkman Acidophilus Plus), Yummi Bear vitamins, a calcium supplement, a vitamin C supplement, and the recommended Nystatin.See other books on biological treatment of PDD for the use of activated charcoal to minimize "die-off" reaction from Nystatin.We ramped up the Nystatin slowly, which probably helped.Now we are encouraged enough to explore some of the other PDD biological treatments (e.g. heavy metal detox).I also feel like I have learned how to really cook for the first time in my life!Big learning curve, but worth it!!! ... TOO COMPLICATED
WAY TOO COMPLICATED DIET TO FOLLOW
common sense or not?
I lost 5lbs the first 2 weeks. I regularly eat very heathy, but need to exercise more(or at all), so i was suprised that i lost the 5lbs just from eating a little healthier and have managed to keep it off. I think it is a good book if you are interested in learning better eating habbits, if you eat poorly. Alot of it is common sense about portion size and eating the right foods for your body to function properly. I don't think you need all the suppliments that she wants you to take, a good multivitamin doesn't hurt though. I didn't follow through after the two weeks because of my schedule, but i do plan to give the rest of it a shot. I think if you need something to jump start you to eat healthy and get rid of all the junk you eat than this is a good way to go. If you really like your junk food than this book is not for you.

Ann Gittleman is great.
This doc really knows her stuff.While you might need to have a high IQ and time to digest.... She is very very informative.

FORGET what e brown says. What was this person thinking???? I will tell you that these are recipes that for the most part include ingredients that any southern cook will find on hand at any time. Simple, easy, and very tasty recipes that your family will love. If some appear to have a high fat content and that bothers you then use your brain and take measures accordingly. It really is that easy.

Paula's the BEST
To the lady who gave Paula's book a 1 star because it's all fattening & salty foods--puhleeze!She said she watches the show--do you really?Paula is a southern cook and southern cooking is full of rich food; she always says her favorite food is butter! Her cookbooks are fantastic; every time I make something to bring to the office or to a potluck, I use one of her recipes and they always get rave reviews and requests for the recipe.She's the tops!

Home cooking at it's best!
Tried & true favorites, along with some new ones. It doesn't get any more tasty or simple than the recipes in this collection. The two books together are a great deal & cover just about anything you'd ever want to whip up in the kitchen. This cookbook is the best in my collection - and I have a lot!! The instructions are clear and the pictures are great!

Horrible!
I tried her honey-acorn pie and it came out HORRIBLE!!! I had to re-bake the pie for more than 50 minutes and the pie filling is tasteless andtoo salty....her recipes are too tedious and never seem to produce good results...and I'm somebody who bakes a lot. Now, Julia Child on the other hand has some WONDERFUL recipes that NEVER fail!

Master Werk
The book is great. Be prepared to spend the money and know it is not published in the Quenns English...or any English for that matter and you will still get your money's worth. If you are a chef, as am I, this book might bring some inspiration if you find yourself bored or looking to mix it up a bit. It reminds me of "On Food and Cooking" on extasy. As far as the guy below who calls himself a chef, please pay no heed to that review as he cleary speaks without regard of fact or any culinary experience. I am sure his hands are soft and he is most likely the owner or two scarless fore-arms. I live in Los Angeles where I own a restaurant and catering company by a different name and we are drowning in foam, emulsions and essences out here.

Adria is Real
Chef DL's review of Adria's cuisine is unfortunately all too familiar.It's sad that a lot of chefs from the 'old school' find molecular gastronomy to be a cold science far removed from the art of food.That opinion, however, is the equivalent of cavemen arguing that clarifying a stock to make consomme is not real food.
lot of catching up to do
I agree with some of the chefs who are afraid we might forget about DINING... I have to confess I was thinking about 'soilent green' at some point. Anyway, browsing the book I realised that those chefs in this book were using the same tools I worked with in 1984 - 1985. Furthermore, after a week, I realised there was also a CD included with the receipes (none found in the book), so it seems I'll have a lot of catching up to do. ... Read more

art demystified
this book simply takes all of the guess work out of an extremley important and somewhat forgotten art. We as chefs or be you a cook, owe a round of applause for this project. i think this is one of the most important books to come out in years. Forget all that other food net crap and celeb chefs, get your hands elbow deep in some pig and take extreme pride in something that you have created from ingrediants so simple but elusive in execution. Anyone can cook a piece of meat , fish or veg but to really manipulate and change something is truly magnificent.

Charcuterie: The Craft of Salting, Smoking, and Curing
This a great book. I have enjoyed using it. It is well written and a pleasure.

Not bad, but not great
This was my first book on wine.I've read numerous books on beer, so that was my background coming into the book.
A Terrific Primer
This book is very easy to read and is a good introduction to the world of wine.The tear-out card in the front of the book is easy to carry with you to help with choosing the right wine for your meal at a restaurant.The glossary explains unfamiliar terms and the chapter headings are logically organized. Without being patronizing, the book explains the basics of wine making, flavor characteristics, and food pairings.

Good for a beginner, could use a bit more organization
For someone who's a complete novice to wine (I qualify), the book will start out very enjoyably, especially if you are interested in the wine making process.It gives you a good understanding of the types of wines, and what the names on the labels mean.
