Easy and tasty
I have only made a few recipes so far- the delicious and easy corn soup, the crispy chicken with the balsamic tomatoes and the smoothies....and the one eyed jacks!She makes the recipes easy to make, simple and homegrown- they are delicious!

Disappointed
Let me preface my review by saying that I'm a vegetarian. I have Sara Foster's first cookbook and absolutely love it. The pages are stained from use and every recipe I prepare is a big hit--scones, cookies, eggplant parm... This book however is lacking in vegetarian options (even sides that can be used as main dishes) and I don't find the desserts or breakfast items as exciting. I would highly recommend her first book however.

A great kitchen companion
I have an addiction to cookbooks, and this one of my top 5 favorite ones.It has wonderful photos and gives great hints on how to make substitutions, short cuts and cooking methods, and the recipes are very easy to follow.I am not one who favors complicated recipes, and while there are a few in this book, they are not so overwhelming that I would not be able to find the ingredients or never attempt to try them.I only hope Sarah and her stores release another book in the years to come! ... I love this book
I bought this book for myself several years ago. I learned so much because each recipe is a mini lesson with tips for those times when things go wrong. I just bought this book again as a bridal shower gift.

Excellent Book - Unfriendly Layout
Any cookbook edited by Maria Guarnaschelli and graced with a forward by Maida Heatter is bound to be something of value.There are plenty of simple cakes in this impressive volume that can be prepared without much difficulty along with some real showstoppers such as "Blueberry Swan Cake". The book is full of techniques, equipment and ingredient recommendations, ideas and lessons in cake decorating, and is a marvelous general reference work for bakers at all levels of experience.The section entitled "Temperatures and Tests for Sugar Syrup" is invaluable.The "Special Categories" section is also useful for determining which cakes are better made in advance, which are quick to pull together, and which are lower in fat and cholesterol (The author, Rose Beranbaum, is married to a physician). My favorite recipe in the book - one I use regularly, is the Sour Cream Ganache - probably the easiest recipe in the book.Its beauty is in its simplicity and, assuming the quality of chocolate is sublime, transports the palate to an Elysian experience.My only complaint about this otherwise first-rate manual, is the way the recipes are listed in a table format. Beranbaum uses the same format in her other baking books, but somehow I find it unfriendly and unappealing. This is of small importance overall and is a matter of personal preference - some readers may love it.Also, many of the recipes are just variations of others.In the recipe for Lemon Crepes Suzette, the first item on the recipe list is "1 recipe Chantilly Crepes".I find it easier to have each recipe stand on its own without having to go back and forth. It is obvious that this book has stood the test of time - even after 18 years, it is still being published in hardcover.Beranbaum is thorough and passionate without ever being pretentious.

Professional Pastry Chef
I have owned this book for years and have refered back to it many times,the problem is that it becomes very confusing if you try to incorperate her advice in with what you are already doing.It seems that the only way most of her ideas work is if you from start to finish only follow her recipes.And what's with the "Rose factor" any one who has this book knows what I am talking about.There are definitely some great pieces of advice and nice little stories but all in all not my favorite. ... Delicious foodstuffs but not 100% raw
While I certainly agree with previous reviewers that Cornbleet's recipes make some fantastic dishes (I like her chocolate mousse far better than the dairy-laden original), confirmed raw foodists should be forewarned that many of Cornbleet's recipes include non-raw ingredients. While an experienced "rawie" will know, for instance, that maple syrup is not raw, someone new to raw foodism may not. Unfortunately, detailed and informative though Cornbleet's directions and auxiliary information are, she often doesn't identify cooked ingredients when calling for them in recipes. Had she done a better job identifying cooked ingredients and perhaps suggesting raw alternatives, I'd rate this book a 5++ without a doubt. It's a superb transitional book, however, or a great choice for someone such as I've become who merely wants to eat varied raw meals more often.
I love this book!
I started eating raw four months ago, have lost 22 pounds and feel great!Eating raw is a challenge, but this wonderful book really does help to make it easy.I use recipes from it at least a few times a week - the ingredients are readily available, the instructions are simple and the results are delicious!In addition, this book has been a great source of information and inspiration for me in making the switch to a raw diet.I admire Jenny Cornbleet's determination and commitment to helping others learn raw food and hope that she has more raw recipe books in the works!

Raw food cuisine can be intensely flavorful and pleasurable, and fun.
ennifer Cornbleet book: Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People is your guide to quick and easy and inexpensive meals that focus on fruits and vegetables. She provides quick references to all recipes (which are all easy to make and don't rely on obscure foods.) She will also teach you raw food preparation and how to plan menus that take more time planning than they do preparing. (In other words, her recipes are quick and easy to prepare:-)

Hilarious........
This book kept me laughing for hours on end. I am from the south and had an occasion to spend 6 months in Greenville, Miss. recently, so having been there, met lots of natives, etc. made it even more comical. While reading the book you can almost hear the accent of the "Southern Ladies" in conversation. Gayden really has a way of turning mundane everyday life in the Delta, into one hilarious situation after another. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories and great recipes as well.

A taste of the deep south
I found this such a humorous and, for me, sentimental read. For each incident and character, I have enough life experiences in the deep south to be able relate the tale to characters and events in my past, including seeing ladies examine invitations from an angle to be sure they are engraved ("that beauty-graving is so tacky"). I am going to buy a couple copies for family members who I am sure will love this book as much as I do.

Sorry, but I didn't like it that much
The book was recommended to me by an elderly Southern lady with a great sense of humor, so I had high hopes.

great treasure
This is a great treasure.One needs to look at each recipe and try to anticipate how the original plate should have been like.No need to follow the exact instructions as they are only hints.Lot's of fun.

Brilliant, if bulky
High priced absurdity? Hardly. Compared to Adria's or Pierre Gagnaire's texts, Ducasse's tome reminds me of a blown up, bulky version of the French Laundry. There are no foams. There are no overtly experimental techniques; save the odd sous vide recipe.
Serious cooks only need apply -
First and foremost this is a cookbook for serious cooks/chefs. No compromise in the ingredients or the techniques required executing the dishes. The recipes are very detailed and very complicated, and, as with many chef cookbooks, it assumes you know how to cook! Don't be in a hurry to produce the dishes, read many times, absorb the essence/idea of the dish and then you should go!

I was shocked to read the poor reviews of this book, this is the first book I've ever reviewed and I'm doing it because it has made such a difference in our lives.I wanted to make my own healthy baby food because my firstborn suffered a lot of digestive problems starting at the time I began feeding her store bought baby food.Fresh, preservative-free homemade baby food made the difference for us.Since then I have started all my babies this way.I am thankful to Ruth Yaron for doing the legwork of getting all the info together in one book.The book includes a table of foods and the vitamins/minerals they contain, there's a section on how to prepare all the major fruits and vegetables, lots of helpful tips and hints, a good reference section on nutrition, recipes, schedules for when to feed certain foods, and lots more.She is a fanatic about some of her healthy additives for baby's food, I didn't get bothered with all that.If you really want to make your own healthy baby food and want to learn a little about good nutrition in general, this is the book for you.

Very Passionate
This book is advice from a very passionate mom.She's a little over the top on some things, as I'm sure we all are on the things we are most passionate about, but all in all it is a great reference for feeding your baby a healthy, balanced, diet.One thing I would add is that you can make the rice cereal in a rice cooker a little easier than on the stove and when you freeze it after making it that way it is not rubbery at all.

The book that saved my marriage...
So our baby gets up every day at 4:30am, and by dinnertime, I'm ready for bed, too tired to stand let alone cook. My husband, while great at cleaning, is lousy at cooking, so I got a crock pot for my birthday.

A very good reference, especially for beginner
I was lucky enough to find and buy this book back in 1989 when I first begain my wine education.I found the information, and the way it was presented, very easy to follow and very useful.The description and author clearly states that this is an introduction to wine.If your goal is to find out what wines you enjoy vs. becoming a collector, than I will go so far as to say that this book is the only one you will ever need.
Kevin Zraly's disappointing volume
As a guide to wines of the world, this book is really disappointing. Capitalizing on the fame and popularity of the former WTC Windows on the World, it sounded like an excellent bet. Unfortunately, it seems to be just a collection of commentary that might have taken place during evenings of wine samplings, and is completely useless as a reference guide.

Needed more depth...
I found the text lacked detail; probably sufficient for sounding clever at dinner parties, but only at a fairly superficial level of understanding. I suspect it has been aimed at the wine novice. For a more authoritative text, I would go for Hugh Johnson's Wine Companion. ... Read more

This book has some great recipes, very easy and yet the food tastes very sophisticated.The BBQ chicken and potato salad are the best I've ever had.The only negative is that there aren't many beef or pork options and seems a bit more female oriented but overall a good buy.

A classic!
This book has it all--so beautiful, great recipes and Ina's friendly voice. I love cookbooks with photos and this is one of the best! All the recipes that I have tried are wonderful. This is one of my favorite books to give as a gift.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
This food is fabulous!
My husband had bariatric surgery in June.When we arrived at the solid food stage, I was in a panic as to what to cook.Moist low fat and tasty food was quite an order.

I purchased this book months before my surgery.Once I had my surgery in June, I started going through the book and picking out the recipes that I could have as soon as could eat.This book actually gives you suggestions as to whether or not you should try the recipe depending on what week you are in as well as breakdown of 3 kinds of surgery. I have tried about 20 of the recipes and have loved each of them. Easy to use
This book explain the GI diet in quick easy terms.It also offers a food guide list of foods which has been very helpful in beginning to use this diet.Plus all the recipes I have tried so far have been easy and so delicious that my family asks me when am I going to make them again.

I was expecting a greater insight into how the foods we eat affect us and was very disappointed. There are some new insights but overall I found the concepts to be very similar to those promoted in food combining. The only difference I saw was that in GI you combine foods that will keep your sugar level at an acceptable level longer. Interesting, Entertaining, and Well Written
I loved this book.It was educational and at the same time highly entertaining.There are several themes going on in the same book.First there is the actual review of restaurants and education of food and wine.Second, there is the truth about restaurants, food, and service that is exposed.Finally, there is the journey of the author and what she learns about herself, desires, and needs.All three themes are woven seemlessly to make a highly fun book to read.

Kudos to Ruth
I just read this book cover to cover on a flight back to NYC from Barcelona.My mouth watered as I read the included reprints of her past reviews of NYC restaurants - even after my five days of fantastic Spanish cuisine!But more surprisingly, I was drawn in by what seems to be quite an honest glimpse of the NYC restaurant experience seen through the eyes of many "characters".The book left me such respect for the depths that Ruth Reichl went through in order to dine as the everyday person would experience, especially in NYC's "best" restaurants.Her recounts made me actually appreciate the research and dedication required to write a truly objective (as objective as food tastes get, I suppose) review.A very easy and enjoyable read.

Ruth's description of the lift of a restaurant critic was both a fascinating read and mouthwatering at the same time. Her descriptions of the disguises and deferring treatments in New York's finest restaurants made for a quick page turner.Her recipes and reviews scattered in each chapter made me bothwant to eat out more often and try to cook some of those dishes myself. ... Bakery quality taste from your oven
