5-0 out of 5 stars I really can't believe there's no dairy
I have waited a long time for this new book by my favorite vegan baking author but this book is even more than I expected. The coconut cake is sooo good, the new muffins delic, the new advice on using dry sweeteners makes it easier (and less expensive ) to bake healthy. If I lived in nyc, I'd be taking her classes for sure, but for now, I am making the recipes and happy. Tell all your friends about this book, not only the dairy frees.
5-0 out of 5 stars wow

I love to bake and I could never thought thatsomething that has no eggs or dairy cantaste sooooo good . The recepies are easy to follow , dont take too much timeand once again tastegood , just yesterday i made Hot Fudge Sunday Cakeand it was lovely
4-0 out of 5 stars You'll never believe this desserts are vegan!
This book is completely vegan and most recipes contain some whole grain ingredients and less refined sweeteners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive system of cleansing which includes many delicious recpies
This being one of the more niche books of the raw/living foods genre, it was not until I had been at least two years into it had I bothered to pick it up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoker and verypractical
Having had oral surgery and not being able to eat solids,I came to this book looking for liquid diet suggestions. While the Salad section (and others) are of no use I found the soups and beverages recipes have a variety and originality that was most impressive and certainly perks a jaded appetite. Although the book is of limited use to me personally, what I have been able to obtain from it still makes the purchase well worthwhile. I recommend cancer patients using alternative therapies to aid their recovery, have a close look at this book. The LifeFood principle is a valid extension to alternative medicine. However it must be emphasised this is a recipe book, based on the Lifefood theory-(the theory of which is dealt with extensively in first few chapters)- it only refers to health benefits in a general way.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The proof is in the eating.
Tonight, I had the honor of dining at the home of a raw foods chef, who served a meal of such heavenly, incredible deliciousness, I had to ask where he found the inspiration to his dishes. He showed me this book, and as I glanced through it, I decided immediately that I MUST have it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Diabetic meal planning made easy
This book showed us how to plan our meals without getting stuck in a rut.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diabetic cooking
This is a great book for meals we all used to like and thought we could no longer have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just Good For Diabetics!
I bought this cookbook recently to give to someone just diagnosed with diabetes and spent a good deal of time reading the recipes, myself. It is a good cookbook for anyone who is interested in eating healthy. I copied some of the recipes for my own use. I particularly liked some of the chicken recipes as well as the recipe for black bean soup. Each page of the book is divided into thirds so that you can mix and match different foods as you plan your meals. When you get past that initial barrier of figuring out what is going on with the book, you will like this cookbook tremendously. There is a wealth of information here to make us all healthier eaters. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes.
I am not a diabetic.I got this book because of the "heart healthy" part of the title. The loaded baked potato soup is wonderful as is the broccoli soup. Those are the only 2 recipes I've tried so far, but they are well worth the price on their own, in my opinion.
5-0 out of 5 stars D & H HEALTHY COOK BOOK
ONE OF THE VERY BEST BY A VERY WELL KNOWN AUTHOR

1-0 out of 5 stars Sugar in almost EVERY recipe.
I was completely disappointed in this book and in fact, threw it in the garbage.I expected to find recipes to supplement my current bland diet, but upon examining this book, I found sugar to be in almost every recipe, including main courses, not to mention the deserts. This would be fine for someone who is simply trying to lose weight, but not for a diabetic.Especially one like me who is Type 2 and needs to strictly control their sugar consumption.I don't feel this author understands diabetic eating nor diabetes itself, as not controlling it properly can result in blindness and loss of limbs.I do not recommend this book for anyone who takes their diabetes seriously. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars No weird foods or ingredients!
Being new to the gluten-free diet I have been very disappointed in the majority of the GF cookbooks. The ingredients are often a challenge to find, are expensive, and frankly just taste gross or have a funky texture. The more ingredients that are different from what we "used to eat" the more disappointing the outcome.Of all the cookbooks I've tried so far (8 of the "mainstream" ones) this one has the most familiar ingredients and "normal" foods. My 5 year old has enjoyed everything I have made from this book so far and has been excited to eat something GF that actually tastes like what he used to eat.The recipes are simple, fast, affordable, and best of all we actually enjoy food again!THANK YOU CONNIE SARROS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incompetent Batchelor
It has been very difficult for me to eat properly since my diagnosis. I never cooked before, and rely on eating out or other people cooking. This book helped even me! Trust me, if I can follow these recipes, anyone can. I was surprised how easy and delicious they were. Thanks! ... Read more

I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars HEALTHY CALENDAR OF DIABETIC COOKING
THIS IS THE VERY BEST WAY TO COOK FOR DIABETICS.
5-0 out of 5 stars highly pleased
I received this book in Feb., but started with the first week of recipes. Most of the meals have been good, some have been excellent. They seem to be right in line with low glycemic diet guidelines.Several meals that claim to serve 4 didn't serve 3. I have skipped some meals, but have tried several new herbs and vegs.

I understand these recipes are intended to introduce people to eating more appropriately sized meals -- a worthy cause. However, the book goes way overboard.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Eating for Good Health
The book is beautifully illustrated andthe recipes are innovative, based on easy-to-find ingredients.I recently served the Mixed Greens with Blueberries and Feta salad and the Asian-style Stir-fried Vegetables at a dinner party andthey were a big hit.The nutritional data is helpful to those on restricted diets.I have recommended this book to my daughter who is an avid cookbook collector, as am I.This one is a keeper! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to get
For me , it was really a very good choice to get this book, and I recommend it to averyone who has to follow a special diet for diabetic, and also anyone who want to learn to eatbetter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great info and recipes made with real food
I was impressed with the extent of information about diabetes and cooking that preceeded all of the recipes. What a great resource this has turned out to be for me. I have enjoyed several of the recipes very much and was especially pleased to find that they include more nutritional analysis than other cookbooks I have (including saturated fat, sugars and fibre). Lots of recipes low in fat, sugar, salt and cholesterol and lots of real, whole food instead of processed foods and chemicals. I think this book was worth every cent and recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up from me and my mom
My mother loves it and I love it too. I first ordered this book as a gift for my mother who has type 2 diabetes. After enjoying the recipes that she made, I went ahead and picked up a copy for myself at the local store seeing as I can use a good dose of healthy eating. Of the main dishes we tried, I found the servings to be quite filling and the recipes were easy enough to make. I also found the sections about diabetes to be very helpful and easy to understand. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid getting diabetes like my mom by following the advice of cookbooks like this. Definitely gets a thumbs up from us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cook book for everyone
I use this book daily for recipe ideas. All the recipes I have tried have been excellent. The different flavors and variety and information is perfect for anyone. You don't have to have cancer or be a cancer survivor or care taker. The recipes are wonderful. The Magic Mineral Broth recipe is just the best. I use it often as the base to making rice instead of plain water. Everyone who have tasted my rice have just loved it. The broth can be frozen and I at times drink it straight instead of teas. It is full of vitamins and minerals that the body needs. Try it for yourself!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves this food
I love the soups and the other food I have eaten from recipies from this book. I am just a friend and have eaten dinners with those who needed to eat the food prepared these special ways. I don't have these issues myself. I would choose these yummy selections over and over. They are as good, or really, far better than regular recipies. This is top notch eating regardless of the reason they were invented.

5-0 out of 5 stars Caregiver's Hidden Secret
This an excellent book.I bought it for my mother-in-law who has pancreatic cancer.I am a nutritionist and she looked to me for some assistance. My main concern is to just keep her appetite so she keeps eating.I happened upon this book at a book festival and was pleasantly surprised. The recipes were nutritious, not complicated and had aroused all of the senses--she loves the smells and the tastes of everything we make. While she was researching specialized diet books that gave her a list of foods that she should eat, this book brought it all together. It bridged that gap.It also has some wonderful stories inside. It should be given to all cancer patients but then again, I find myself making these recipes for my own family--We love it just as much as she does!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best for machine bread!
I love this book! I needed a bread book. When I decided to omit wheat and gluten, I ordered several cookbooks. My main problem was baking a loaf of bread. I got the packaged mixes, but the taste was all wrong. I tried several recipes on line, but they were written for hand kneading and I have a bread machine lifestyle.
5-0 out of 5 stars Its title says it all - "The Best"
I can't believe no one has written a review for this excellent cookbook yet.I just finished making the Banana-Pineapple Muffin recipe this morning and couldn't wait to taste them hot out of the oven.I have made several recipes from the authors' previous cookbook ("125 Best Gluten-Free Recipes"), so I know how good the recipes can be. But I was still surprised at how "normal" the muffins looked and tasted. The texture looks like they could have been made with regular flour instead brown rice flour, sorghum, and flaxmeal!I've been baking gluten-free breads and muffins for a year since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and I have had the most success when using the Washburn & Butt cookbooks. I especially like their bread machine recipes--always tastey. My favorite so far is "Henk's Flax Bread" which tasted like whole wheat bread. I can't recommend this book enough for beginners. And besides the bread recipes, there are loads of recipes for all kinds of meals you can make for the entire family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eat To Beat Prostate Cancer
David Ricketts is back again, and better than ever!In his newest cookbook,
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one
Eat to Beat Prostate Cancer is an excellent resource for many folks. It is NOT just for those dealing with prostate cancer. It is chock full of interesting and tasty recipes which include a variety of soy products. There is a full complement of recipes ranging from appetizers to desserts.Any woman who wants to include soy in her diet to deal with menopausal symptoms, any person who wants to decrease the amount of animal protein in his/her diet or any parent who wants to include high quality soy protein in the family meal plan should invest in this resource. It is much more than just a cookbook.I have purchased many soy based cookbooks over the years looking for something like "Eat to Beat..."This is the ONE!Thanks,David Ricketts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Me: 1; Prostate Cancer: 0
When it comes to eating, I'm about as carnivorous as a T-Rex.However, after hearing about diet being linked to (prostate) cancer and all, I decided to add a healthy component to my diet.Prior to getting this book, I considered holding a pack of tofu or soy milk as severely compromising my masculinity. And I still do. Nonetheless, the benefits that have come from my change in diet are well worth it!I've shed a few pounds and feel great.Ninety-nine percent of the recipes I've tried are easy and delicious.Speaking of easy and delicious, I've impressed a couple of my dates with these recipes.Although I still eat like a T-Rex, from time to time, I feel confident that (prostate) cancer won't make me extinct.Cheers! ... This book really surprised me. So far ALL the recipes I have tried I have found amazing and as the carb count is included in each one it is really easy to organize your menus! Everyone should have one of these! The only thing I would change is I would include pictures, although this would probably make the book more expensive...

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative, nutritious, delicious
The recipes are creative, nutritious, and delicious. I love the upbeat tone of the book, and the sheer number of recipes is amazing. Most are time-consuming but worth it.Everything I've made from it has been popular. The veggie burgers are a particular favorite in our family and we always keep a supply in the freezer. This book is also a wealth of information on legumes, grains, exotic vegetables, ethnic condiments, store-cupboard suggestions... it is a wonderful reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Go-To Cookbook
I can't applaud this cook book enough. In fact, I've never written a review in my life, but felt compelled after last night's simple corn & potato chowder.I use this book more than any other in my collection.Even my boyfriend, who rarely eats vegetarian, agrees that this is a great cook book.Somerville knows how to balance ingredients just right. And I especially love her blurbs about ingredients and how they can be used. She also recommends complementary recipes which helps when planning a meal. All cooks, even non-vegetarians, would benefit from this cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Always Great Results
Everything I've made from this book has been exceptional.I will agree that the recipes can be time consuming, but well worth the effort.Just made the Artichoke & Leek Lasagna yesterday - fabulous.Another favorite dish is the Winter Vegetable Curry with Pineapple Chutney!!!This is a great way to get more vegetables into your diet and really enjoy it.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar soups
I don't use much of this cookbook, although it might all be good. I'm recommending it on the basis of the soups, some of which are spectacular. Soups were not in my repertory prior to this book and "The Greens", as recipes frequently turned out flavorless. However,I've made a soup every week or two - using one of these two books - every since "discovery" of them 5 years ago. They might not be easy, but they're very flavorful, interesting and healthy and you can use good purchased organic stock in many cases to cut down the time (else you'll be at it all day, between stock and soup). Some of my favorites from this book are Palak Shorva (Curried Spinach Soupwith Toasted Coconut), Winter Greens Soup (a kale/chard/spinach extravaganza), and Morrocan Lentil Soup.

1-0 out of 5 stars True to title
The title is absolutely true. But it's fairly easy to simply leave out the eggs and add a little dairy. That's all she's done.To nearly every recipe.Page after page after page.If you haven't baked much, and if you have no dairy intolerence/allergy, the book could be helpful. If you're a long-time baker who's looking for some insight on how to continue baking with a restricted diet, don't waste your money on this book.Pick up you're old Betty Crocker or Joy of Cooking, look at the recipe, take out the eggs, add some dairy as binding, and voila, you've got this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book with kid friendly recipes.
This book makes baking without eggs easy. When my son was first diagnosed with an egg allergy cooking seemed very intimidating.I didn't know where to begin. This book has recipes for foods that any child will eat.My daughter who has no food allergies is a very picky eater and even she will eat everything that I make from this book. This is the only cookbook that I have found that eliminates just the eggs.I have tried many of the allergen-free cookbooks (those that eliminate dairy, wheat, nuts, gluten, eggs, etc.).My kids don't tend to like the things I make from those cookbooks. If its just eggs that you need to eliminate then Bakin' Without Eggs is the best cookbook to have.I only wish Rosemarie Emro would publish a second book.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing book
We've been using this book for about 5 years now.My daughter is allergic to eggs, milk and nuts. All of the recipes I've tried are great, but in particular, there is a wonderful recipe for "loaded chocolate chip cookies" that is better than anything I've made with eggs and butter. Now my daughter has something she can share with her friend that doesn't "taste funny". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Works well if you follow the instructions
I bought the book for a family member with Fibro who was nearly an invalid. The improvement was immediate and dramatic. She follows the diet guidelines in the book faithfully and now has her life back.

1-0 out of 5 stars A DUD
I thought that this was going to be a cookbook with delicious and new recipes. It was a dud. There are no nutritional guidelnes, no ideas. It is not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I enjoy this cookbook...

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Opener
This book was a real eye opener for me.I had no idea about some of the topics discussed in most of these chapters. No diet or lifestyle change works over night, and I think that this book helpsexplain that in the simplest way.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, for what it is.
This is the same stuff one finds in the women's magazines at the checkouts or maybe this is where they may have got some of their articles. The "why do you eat" quiz was my favourite part of the book & helpful.I have lent this to other friends & they liked it as well.Evidentlty they don't buy women's magazine .All in all a so-so addition to my library.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe for someone with more control!
I didn't find this book very helpful at all, I think it would be more helpful for someone with more control over their eating. For someone who struggles with deeper issues with food however, not very helpful. The suggestions are good, but it's just not that simple for everyone, as much as I tried! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Soy!
I am amazed how people who obviously haven't even read the book are making negative comments.HELLO!Did you know that at LEAST 75% of the soybeans in THIS COUNTRY are genetically modified?!?!?!?!?And you think that is good for you.Wake up people. If you are interested in changing to a soy diet or are on a soy diet - you should read the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book MUST be something
Came here to buy the book after yesterday's reportage about dangers of soy in San Francisco Chronicle. Had no plans to write but given the sheer hate spewed by so many nasty vicious reviewers this book has to be really something!!!I'm a believer in the right to free speech but a lot of these 1 star reviews sound like slander. Joseph Mercola, Larry Dossey, Doris Rapp, Kilmer MacCully and other authors have read this book and would not have recommended it without good reason.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is propaganda, don't buy it
The publisher of this book also publishes a book about the "fallacy" that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease.Saturated fat and cholesterol have been demonstrated in study after study to cause heart disease. This publisher is nothing more than a shill for the meat and dairy industry. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
The book was in great condition, better than expected, it looked brand new. Fast shipping as well. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars I was surprised that this is such a good book
When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing!I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins.I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out.I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too.I am really impressed.I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers.I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great recipes!!
My husband & I just started the South Beach diet.Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy.I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make. ...
