5-0 out of 5 stars Easy diet, well-written, much praise to Cheryl Garrison
I have Hemochromatosis and I was unable to enjoy many foods because of the disorder, now because of this book, I can cook quality food, that tastes good and is healthy for my body. Iron overload is no fun, and from my personal opinion it seems to be Cheryl Garrison and Iron Disorders Institute that have given the best advice. Thanks for the advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Simple, Starter Cookbook for Vegetarians
This book is great for people who aren't gourmet chefs or for people who want to learn how to switch over to a healthier lifestyle and eat more vegetarian food. The recipies are very easy to follow. However, if you are used to a high salt, high fat diet you will find the food bland. You'll need to adjust the seasoning and decrease it over time to acheive the full health benefits. This cookbook gives great ideas on some surprising vegetarian meals. It also tells you the nutritional content of each recipe.

2-0 out of 5 stars Recipes are so-so!!!!
I bought this book when I was pregnant hoping that it would help me eat right. While the recipes might be healthy, the actual recipes itself aren't too tasty. Also, the pictures don't do it justice. I think I found about three recipes that I actually liked in this book. And these three recipes weren't super great. The times I did make them, I made them mostly since they were healthy and not so much for taste. For me, this wasn't the best book of recipes for pregnant women and if I had done it again, I probably wouldn't have purchased this book. My advice for anyone looking to buy this book is that you should go to a bookstore and look through it. That way you can see for yourself whether you would really like the recipes in this book and if this is something you would really want. ... Read more

Macrobiotics is the logical extension of the current movement towards sustainable development - from the community and down to the level of the individual. In a word it represents a practical way to achieve individualsustainability in an increasingly dangerous world governed by degenerativediseases such as cancer, heart disease and the like many of which areinduced by negative aspects of the degraded environment in which many of uscurrently live.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Educational and Common-Sense Approach to Weight Loss
This book is really terrific! After over two years of living a "controlled carb" lifestyle, my husband and I began to get concerned about our health. Even though we lost loads of weight and kept it off all that time, we felt we may be doing our bodies long-term damage. So we tried low-fat for a bit, but started gaining weight and so we went back to low carb. Desperate to find a way to lose weight and eat healthy, we bought this book. In a nutshell, it shows you how to balance it all out. Through educating you about metabolism and even how to "get in tune" with your own body, this book puts it all in perspective. No fad dieting ideas, no gimmicks, just REAL answers to why we eat the way we do and how to eat right for the rest of your life! Exercise and stop being afraid of food! Eat when you're hungry! Enjoy real ice cream, butter and mayonnaise! Just do it right. This book shows you how.

5-0 out of 5 stars Common Sense on a Cracker!
I have been doing Weight Watchers off and on for about three years.I have gained and lost the same 10 pounds, and I have gotten nowhere near my "goal weight".Why not?No one mentioned the common sense guidelines that I got from this book in the first five minutes of reading it:eat according to your appetite and eat balanced meals that satify (rather than stuff) you.FINALLY!Very very great information about nutrition (with no hocus-pocus studies or extreme recommendations) and about how each meal should be balanced for maximum satisfaction and metabolism, and how to increase your physical activity (moderately) to support your weight loss. After only a few days I feel, for the first time in my life, a) satisfied after every meal, b) the excess weight coming off (already!), and c) completely confident that I can meet my goal weight without completely disrupting my life or suffering at the hands of the dreaded "WW points".I can do this for the rest of my life.Buy this book! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Gluten Free Cookbook!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this cookbook! The recipes were easy to follow, and didnt have a ton of ingredients that i havnt heard of before. Most gluten free cookbooks i have call for a all-purpose mix that consists of 5 or so alternative flours, which can be expensive, confusing, and an all around pain in the [...] to make and buy. THIS book, on the other hand, has only 2 main flours is uses, which is so simple and much less cost consuming!! The only small gripe i have is that most of the book is for sweets, like cookies, cakes, pies etc. Not much is dedicated to dinner entrees. But, sweets are what i miss most, so this doesnt bother me too much. If you are gluten intolerant, BUY THIS COOKBOOK!! It is easy and fun to use!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Gluten-free book!!
This is a perfect gluten-free book! I am constantly using it. It is the only book that I have found that doesn't use rice. I am allergic to rice. This book is a blessing for those of us who struggle to find a gluten-free book that doesn't have the manditory rice flour in it!! It's so wonderful to be able to make so many great receipes. Everything I have made has turned out wonderful and tastes almost like the real thing!!! I have made chicken pot pie, onion rings, muffins, biscuits, and even brownies!!! Thank you so much, Roben Ryberg!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, basic american fare!
Well, I was a little disappointed because none of the yeast breads I made turned out alright. Although, most gf breads are quite tricky. But the quick breads turned out just fine, and they're quite good. You would never know they were gluten free. I haven't had the oppertunity to make much from the book, but what I have has been delicious. There are a lot of sweets (mostly sweets I'd say!) and I don't use the fats that she recomends (too rich for my blood!) but margarine in place of shortening has turned out alright for me so I wouldn't hesitate in doing so.The recipies are simple enough for my little sister to follow (she and I have gluten intolerance), and she just loves them...it's brought a lot of joy to her (it's so hard for little kids to deal with not being able to eat pizza or cake)

5-0 out of 5 stars Mom loves it
The book was for my mom. She loves anything Jacque Pepin, anyway. She loves this book. At their age, they need to be diet conscience (shouldn't we all?). It combines her two favorite cooking subjects, Pepin and healthy cooking. Recipes are tasty. His writing is very easy to follow, she says.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Cookbook Yet!
I am very health conscious, so the title of this cookbook grabbed my attention. I did not even know who Mr. Pepin was. I purchased the cookbook on a whim, and have not been sorry, yet. I did not know healthy cooking could taste so good. As one reviewer said, it is all in the preparation and spices. I simply had no idea! I have made several recipes so far, and have not been disappointed. They are truly delicious. However, the only negative thing I have to say is some of the recipe's ingredients are hard to find, or ones I have never heard of. It isn't simple cooking as the title implies, but it is well worth the time and effort put into each recipe. This is the best cookbook I have ever owned, and highly recommend it to anyone, whether you are health conscious or not.

2-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps a little too thin?
I was a bit disapponted with many of the recipes in this book either because they seriously lacked flavor or just didn't turn out right. Also, I agree with the title in the sense that the dishes described in it are healthy, but quite a few are far from being simple (or, conversely, they are so simple that they're boring). On the bright side, I did enjoy many of his dessert recipes, particularly his fruit-based ones. Also, Pepin's example menus are quite creative and helpful, provided that you can do something to dress up the flavor of the actual meals. There is no question in my mind that Jacques Pepin is perhaps one of the most talented and respected chefs of our time, but this particular book just seems to fall short. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Diabetes Cookbook for Dummies
Very informative, I learned a lot from this book, it is a great guide for NEW diabetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful resource!
The Diabetic Cookbook for Dummies is a very essential resource for specialized dieters. Every mouth watering recipe listed in this book contains much nutrients and contents suitable for diabetic health watchers. My 87 year old grandfather owns this cookbook, and uses it on a daily basis to prepare meals and satisfy his appetite. Also can be very useful for gourmet chefs making meals in a fancy restaurant. The information content is overwhelming, which is typical of every "Dummies" entry. May overwhelm the casual reader using the book for recreation or last minute cooking preparations. The book is very large and bulky, and not the best choice to carry along with you on a vacation. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.....
Well, I must really be dumb, because the DIABETES COOKBOOK FOR DUMMIES is really loaded with information and very overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the book is filled with good stuff if you are trying to gain weight, I just think the title is misleading. They should have called it "the encyclopedia of diabetes recipes, meals, menus, hints, trivia, and everything else prepared by someone who knows what you really want to eat" or something like that. I did find dozens of good recipes in this book. I am using THE INSULIN RESISTANCE DIET by Hart and Grossman and the DUMMIES cookbook is loaded with plenty of recipes I can adapt, and some not so adaptable. .Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, simple, healthy with flavor
This cookbook has many recipes which are easy to cook, healthy to eat, and tasty to enjoy. It's also a good cookbook to have handy in a household with vegetarians and meat eaters.

5-0 out of 5 stars easy to use
I'm a big fan of The Pump in New York City -- I eat there every chance I get. This book is a good companion for fans of The Pump or for anyone looking to cook easy-to-make, simple healthy foods that do not require egg yolks, salt, butter or oil or other unhealthful ingredients.I liked the little blurbs on the sides of the recipes by famous clientele of the Pump. This is from a "mom and pop" type of store -- so the book is not written too professional, its more like a friend talking to another friend -- not a bad thing at all.The Dynamite Chicken Pita (#42) is a must try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Health on the go
This is a very good recipe book for those who are busy and have very little time for cooking. In addition, you need not worry about the nutritional content of the recipes; it is very healthy without the exaggerations of a health nut. Those who are image driven may be disappointed at this book because it has no illustrations of the foods in the recipe. Over all, if your concern about general health this is a great recipe book for you. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I ordered!
I ordered a cook book for the product the MAGIC BULLET.Was in disbelief there could be two titles for a cook book called Magic Bullet but even more in disbelief when it wasn't for the product Magic Bullet. It's one of those instances when the picture/description could have been a little clearer so I could see that it was not to go with my Magic Bullet grinder.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
This book has absolutely nothing to do with the Magic Bullet Blender; it is just a little organic cookbook. The title isvery misleading. Since there was no description of any kind, I assumed it referred to the Magic Bullet Blender. Big mistake! There is not one recipe in it that I would use, unless, of course, I want to make 2 kinds of ketchup. The "magic bullets" that the author refers to are "Delicious recipes rich in bioflavinoids and other natural food factors that are the "Magic Bullets" against our most serious ailments". ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe wheat- and dairy-free, but NOT gluten-free!
I had high hopes for this book, but they were quickly dashed when I discovered that every single recipe relies on barley flour. What's the point of wheat-free recipes that still contain gluten? I would not have bought this off a store shelf had I been able to leaf through it more thoroughly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the brownies!
This is a great cookbook for vegan bakers. The brownies are simply amazing - my wife can not believe that they are vegan (compared to my other attempts at vegan brownie making). The recipes are really easy to follow and the ingredients are all available at the local grocery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't forget like I did --- Wheat-free is not gluten-free
I really wasn't thinking when I ordered this book. I'm sensitive to dairy and gluten, and I try to avoid white sugar, so I've had a difficult time finding recipes for treats. Gluten-free recipes tend to have processed sugar. Recipes using sugar alternatives like fruit juice (not artificial sweeteners - yuck) tend to use gluten grains. Barley flour is the flour used in this cookbook. I could probably come up with a gluten-free alternative, but I don't know how to substitute for oatmeal. All the cookie recipes, except macaroons, have oatmeal. But the recipes sound fabulous, so if you don't have a problem with gluten, I'd give it a try. I'm definitely going to try substituting the flour in some of the muffin and bread recipes. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Spiral binding makes the book hard to use
The book is spiral bound, and while it allows the book to lie flat on a countertop, the pages don't turn easily. I think the problem is that the spiral binder is too small for the book. The pages don't have much "breathing room" as you turn them so it makes browsing the book difficult. The binding isn't an issue if you will find the recipe you're looking for and turn to that page. Aside from the binding issue, the production is top quality. The entire book is color on glossy paper, and you'll find alluring photos of every recipe.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for Dieters
I am very happy with this cookbook. The recipes are modern and the book's layout is fantastic! My family loves the new twists on old favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Spiral-bound Edition
First of all, I love this cookbook!! I own more than 10 diet/light/low-carb cookbooks, and this is the only one that all the recipes I've tried from haven't let me down. I love the layout as well; every recipe has a picture making it easy to choose a dish I'd like to try that day.
