Expected more recipes for Jack Daniels . .
With all the hype over this book, I was a bit disappointed. It was myunderstanding that all of the recipes had Jack Daniels in the recipes, butI didn't find that many recipes with Jack Daniels.Also, there were veryfew pictures of the food.Other than giving me a lot of recipes forsauces, it gave me a lot of barbequing ideas.

Indoor! Grilling as good as outdoor and EASIER!
We don't have an outdoor grill. I love my George Foreman grill but didn't have a good variety of recipes and still always envied my friends who cooked incredible recipes on their gas grills outdoors. Start with the wings
Barbecued Wings Charlotte Style (p. 44) makes this book worth its fantastic Amazon price. Quadrupled the recipe and served the wings to a backyard party of 75 during the 2006 Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Look forward to preparing more of Mario's tailgating delights.

"More" Duch Ocen cooking at it's best

This books tells you the basics of how to get started with dutch oven cooking, and includes very simple recipes for novices such as myself.I enjoy this book!It includes humorous side stories which are good reading.

We want More Cee Dub

not the best
you don't really understand how big this thing is until you see the finished product. Which by the way -- there are no finsihed pictures. I actually saw the finished oven on ebay. When it towers over the 6' privacy fence- you began to rethink making it.

Not so helpful
The book gives one set of plans without much discussion on how to modify them.I was hoping for more theory and explaination about size, height, chimney placement etc. a good supplement to The Bread Builders
If you're interested in building a wood-fired oven for baking, this is a good supplement to Alan Scott's essential "The Bread Builders".Provides very interesting historical background, amusing anecdotes and aset of plans which are aimed a bit more squarely at the amateur builderthan Alan's plans. I'm building an oven now using plans interpolatedbetween the two.If you're going to tackle a project like this, get a goodbook on masonry techniques too, or better yet, a video. "Why" as well as "how" is important
While one can not truly barbeque on a grill, this guide gets you as close as possible.Good grilling is not rocket science but this book explains what many have learned only through trial-and-error.When trying a new receipe, I always compare it with this guide.While I may prefer sauces and rubs found in my other six grilling books, this is my Bible on how to apply them. Buy this book first and use it as your standard when reviewing others. Of course, like all receipe books, you must use your own good judgement. For example, one receipe says start your salmon fillets skin side down while another says skin side up. (I think skin side up is the right way to go to get better marking and to make it easier to see how cooking is progressing.) I use this book and I give it to my friends.Enjoy!
I'm getting another one for myself
I gave this book to my brother for his birthday.He is a BBQ addict - once flew to Memphis for a week, just to do BBQ research.He rarely finds anything of interest in most books or magazines.He loves this book and within the first 20 minutes of reading it (while we finished assembling his birthday cake) he announced, twice, that he had "found something".Having found the perfect gift, I couldn't be more pleased.

A "Must Have" Grilling and Barbeque Book!
"The Cook's Illustrated Guide to Grilling and Barbeque" is in my opinion a "must have" book for anyone wanting to learn or improve his/her outdoor cooking skills. This book, copyrighted in 2005, appears to me to be an updated and revised version of the similar "The Best Recipe Grilling & Barbeque" book copyrighted in 2001 (which I bought at the same time). After reading through both books, I do not see any reason for purchasing the 2001 book.

Delicious, full-color guide to grilling
Weber is known for great grills and who better to make a cookbook on getting the most out of them.Weber's Art of the Grill is filled with huge, full color photographs of just about every recipe offered, which is a must-have trait for me that many cookbooks lack.The recipies are definitely a little on the "high brow" side, so if you are really just looking for new ways to make burgers and dogs this is not the book for you.But if things like swordfish with mango salsa sound good to you, pick this up right away!

Gas grillers unite! Finally, a book for those who have discarded charcoal.
Those readers who have discarded charcoal and lighter fluid for LPG or NG have often been ridiculed as not truly grilling. And, while I don't subscribe to that myth, cooking with gas can definitely be challenging, and is something of an art. Weber's ART OF THE GRILL has now given gas grillers a leg up into offering outstanding dishes. (If one would enjoy nothing else, the pictures in this cookbook are over-the-top.)

It's OK
Many reviewers of the book have been to the restaurant(s) and have sampled its menus "live" - I have not.My comments are purely on the book.It is a very good bar-b-que book.The recipes in it are mouthwatering, and I don't mean just a few either. The "hook" in many of these recipes is that they utilize an all-purpose red rub recipe and/or a basic sauce recipe (the Mutha Sauce) provided in the book. I have made both recipes in order to try many of the interesting recipes.My only complaints are that the Mutha Sauce produces a very vinegary sauce and the one quarter cup of pepper sauce in it may, for some tastes, be a little over the top.If it suits your taste, fine.If your taste is more to the sweet, either amend the recipe or use another red sauce that you prefer.

A Favorite in My Collection
My fiance received the cookbook as a gift for Christmas one year, so I tried a couple of the recipes on the grill. From there I bought a Weber smoker and used the recipes for ribs and pulled pork.
A SURPRISE FAVORITE!!
I am a foodie with a slant toward the gourmet, while my husband is a "stick to the ribs" kind of guy. When his sister bought me this cookbook for Christmas a couple years ago, I wasn't particularly overjoyed. A cookbook from a local rib joint was the last thing I thought I wanted. It was with great reluctance (and an effort to please my husband!) that I made my first dish out of it, but that's all it took to make me a believer! I have since tried 12 recipes from this book and they have all been very good to excellent. Not only does it contain the traditional barbecue fare that you would expect from it, but there are many inventive tantalizing ones as well (like Sweet Potato-Crusted Mahi-Mahi with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce or Seared Tuna with Wasabi Green Onion BBQ Sauce). And the everyday barbecue recipes? Well, even I can't get enough of them, and that's saying a lot for someone whose dream dinner consists of crab towers and creme brulee. And as if that's not enough, the cookbook is just a really good read. The author's biker, blues-loving wit keeps you entertained as you cook. And even I can appreciate that. :-) ... Read more

Great book for kids and parents!
This book gave me a lot of good ideas when I took my daycare kids camping this summer.They liked most of the recipes, but we tailored some of them to their liking.It was a great book.

Simple Beginner book for Campfire Cooking
A good beginner book to give basic recipes and ideas for cooking on the campfire.The book does what I imagine it set out to do, giving starting point for people doing outdoor cooking with younger children such as parents, scout leaders, or teachers.

This is a fun book for kids, and has a lot of common sense easy recipes they can follow. It starts off by teaching the basics of building a campfire, especially the safety involved, and putting out the fire. It has sections on cooking on a grill, cooking in a pouch, and on a stick. If you havne't doen these it is hard to describe, since they do not mean an animal on a spit here. Not really a Barbecue Book
While this book may come from a barbecue society it mostly deals with grilling instead of smoking. In addition, quite a few of the recipes lacked critical details. The "Champion's" recipes were laughable. I was hoping for more than Useable Recipes
This is a FANTASTIC BOOK. It has a great deal of useable recipes in it. Unlike alot of cookbooks that just have a few. I highly recomend this cookbook. Would give it 10 stars if i could.Happy Barbecueing. It's time to fire up the Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker.

Great source for BBQ recipies
If you buy this book, you wont learn how to BBQ. It doesnt cover enough (or any) on selecting meat, selecting the BBQ smoker, proper cooking technique, etc. But what you do get, that makes this a worthwhile purchase,is a huge amount of great recipies. Learn from a master
You can buy lots of books on how to cook barbeque, but very few from accomplished masters such as Paul Kirk.Only two things surpass his ego in this book:His willingness to share some great recipes and insights, and his recipes themselves. Excellent and indispensable!
This great little book covers every aspect of preparation for barbeque.If you think barbeque is nothing more than tossing a few burgers on the grill, this book will open up for you a myriad of possibilities.Even experienced cooks can find plenty of good suggestions from which they can develop their own rubs, sauces & mops.I have the most fun putting together my own recipes based on his suggestions.If you aren't interested in devoting that much energy to perfecting your slow-cooking, stick with the recipes, which display an impressive variety.It doesn't hurt that this book is extremely affordable.I cannot recommend it enough.

Your First BBQ book to purchase!
I purchased my first smoker a few months ago but given the weather in Montreal I only started to use it last week, finally. I purchased this book on recommendations from others on this site and do not regret it at all! I have made several sauces and rubs and they are outstanding! I also had to go and purchase many of the ingredients that I did not have which took a while and at 5 different stores. I went through the book and made a list and after spending over 100.00 I had a complete collection of items I never had or heard of! Summertime and the grilling is easy!
Sandra puts a spin on lots of "regular" grilling dishes. Everything I have made from this book has brought nothing but yummms from my dinner guests. A must have book for grillers.

Fantastic~~I don't know what the reviews did wrong to say that none of the recipes are good.they must not know how to grill or cook.I bought the book and within the first week, made 6 of the recipes!! They are fantastic, easy to follow and taste great. I keep her rub on hand and the only difference is that I check the food more often so it doesn't burn. If you know how to cook or grill, that's what you need to do. I have several friends and family members that bought it too and love it. Best grill book I ever had.Will try the oven recipes in the winter to see how they turn out.

A collection of awful recipes
I'd say that only 1 out of 10 of these recipes are edible.Some actually got throw away before I even contemplated serving them.And the overwhelming majority of them clearly have mistakes (like mixing up teaspoons and tablespoons/omitting directions for called for ingredients/directions that contradict themselves within the recipe) or have difficult or impossible to follow directions.This book seems very, very poorly written and edited. ... So good I bought two to give one as a gift.
Excellent from an analytic point of view as well as a "just do this" standpoint. Reminds me of Shirley Corrier or Alton Brown when he's not being cornball. Great book.

Like a school text book
This is a great informational book on what each ingredient (spices , seasonings and jucies) does to the meat and taste. Has an abundance of great recipes. Has a lot of info on cook times and how different meats should be cooked. I'm a BBQ fanatic and consider myself a grill specialist (not quite a Master yet). I think this book will give me the knowledge to push my grilling to a competitive level. "Watch out for DIGGLER'S Meat"

Excellent book for beginners and grill vets alike!

Too Complicated
All the recipes are pretty advanced (and expensive).I'd like to see more easy dishes that don't take 5 hours to prepare and $100 per oven.

This is well organized and appealing book for outdoor cooker.If you have cast iron dutch oven, you have to have this one.
Great receipes, assumes basic skill however
I have been collecting and trying dutch oven receipes for some time and found the content of the Outdoor Dutch Oven book very solid.Some receipes are too involved for outdoor trips, but would work just fine in the kitchen.I originally checked the book out of the library, but was so impressed I thought it deserved to be purchased.The comments regarding no instruction on dutch oven skills are valid.You'll want another resource for that. ... The reciepes are great! What I like the most is the chart that estimates cooking time for all types of grilling items.

Great Fun Recipes...But Not Really Healthy
The recepes are really nice and creative, but if you're trying to eat healthier--this is a book to skip. Just because a recipe is full of grilled veggies, the "health" benefits lessen when you dump enough olive oil, cheeses, etc on them to increase the fat content to a whopping 25-35 grams per serving--of which a lion's share of these recepes sport.
