4-0 out of 5 stars Cute, but I don't really use it
I got this book as a gift.It was a cute book - something that brought me back to the days of "Dad Knows BBQ Best."Sadly, I don't really use the book too much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Slab o' Fun!
My new favourite cookbook, and I haven't even tried out the recipes yet! Everything about this book seems so fresh even though the graphics are items that are over 50 years old. The copy is vividly written, just reading the recipes makes you want to throw on an apron and get grillin! The titles of recipes are fabulous, such as "Slab o' Fun Barbequed Meat Loaf" and "Cheesy-Drippin, Garlic Fumin' St. Louis Salad" and the recipes are equally creative. I love how they take classics and give them a twist! There is not a single recipe in this book that I expect to find in any other cookbook. Even if the recipes didn't look delicious and interesting I would still want this book. It'sa wonderful reference for the 50's kitsch collecter...all kinds of bbq items and pictures illustrate each page, all appropriately chosen. The graphics add so much! This is a gem of a book! I can't wait to display this wonderful conversation peice on my chrome bakers rack in my retro kitchen and have my friends over for a classic patio party!

5-0 out of 5 stars COOL!
Being an excellent cook myself, I read cookbooks more for ideas thananything else. This book not only gave me lots of ideas, it brought backmemories of my Grandmother's cooking. Also, it wasn't filled with a lot ofendless, useless, chatter.

Udon, ramen, pho, pad thai -- there's a seemingly endless array of Asian noodle dishes that have found a very comfortable niche in Western foodie culture. And for good reason:they're nutritious, inexpensive, and darn tasty. Now Nina Simonds, Chinese scholar and author of China Express and Classic Chinese Cuisine, shows how to make them beautiful as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and Flavorful
I picked it up since I love Asian noodle dishes but have no Asian cookbooks and I haven't been disappointed yet. If you keep the staples around, it is so easy to pick up a few vegetable & protein items and throw together a tasty meal. I have made about 5 of the recipes so far and they've been delicious and satisfying, plus it's easy to improvise or make substutions based on availability of ingredients or preferences. The sauce:noodle ratio is perfect everytime. The recipes are economical and make nice leftovers! I also rate the book highly for design - it's very clean, modern, and easy to use, with close-up photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I bought this book because I adore Asian noodle dishes and I'm also usually pressed for time.I agree that the recipes may appear almost too Americanized when reading the ingredients, but always turn out wonderfully.I own many cookbooks but have found myself cooking from this one often.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of those rare books that you'll use over and over!
I don't usually hype cookbooks. However, this one is terrific for anyone who loves Asian food, but doesn't have a Thai or Vietnamese place right around the corner. The recipes are clearly written, and use ingredients that most decent supermarkets carry. My family has loved every dish I've made from this book: soups, salads, spring rolls, you name it.It's one of the best purchases I've ever made, and I have hundreds of cookbooks. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Dana Carpender is the best.
I currently have ALL Dana Carpender's books.I love her style of writing. She is so down to earth. In her books, she will tell you some brands that she has tried and what tastes good and what is horrible.I have loved everything that I've made from her cookbooks and am inspired everytime I pick up her books. If you are trying Low-Carb, her books should be in your kitchen. She is great and I will continue to purchase her cookbooks as they become available.I never feel like I am on a diet when I use her recipes.Infact, I'm not on a diet...I have just changed the way I eat and think about food.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dana's Low Carb BBQ Cookbook
Outstanding! This is the 3rd Dana Carpender cookbook I have and it is probably my favorite.Great recipes and great fun to use!I have been de-carbing recipes from my favorite BBQ cookbook and was relieved to see that I was on the right track.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great cookbook from Dana Carpender
I love all of the Dana Carpender cookbooks, and this one is no exception. Both her writing and cooking styles are a lot of fun, and I have yet to make a recipe I didn't like out of her books. The Chipotle Garlic Butter is already a favorite in our house, and we've only had the book a few days. The recipes are simple to follow with easy to find ingredients, and the results are delicious. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, for BBQ novices
This book has very good tips and methods on HOW to BBQ, and is then followed by a decent number of recipes. The recipes are not quite my style, but they are good anyway. One big positive thing about this book is how it describes building your own pit.Not all books do that, and information on building your own pit is fairly scarce.I agree with an earlier reviewer that this book tended to advertise the authors products a bit, but the author also gave some knock-off recipes so you don't have to buy his products.I would recommend this book for a beginner who doesn't want a really big book. This book is thinner than some of the other big BBQ compilations, and that is nice, but I prefer some of the larger books personally. My favorites and "Smoke and Spice" by Cheryl Jamison and "Paul Kirks Championship Barbecue".These are both large books, but worth every ounce in pure BBQ heaven!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Barbecue like a Champion
I received John Willingham's book as a gift and have read it cover to cover. It's packed full of bbq secrets from the greatest bbq contest cook to ever put on an apron. Willingham details basic cooking methods including what wood to use and what wood not to use, temperatures to cook at, and he provides his personal recipes. I especially like the rib recipe and his recipe for pork shoulder. These recipes can be used as written, or you can tweak them slightly to suit your personal taste. The recipes alone would be worth the price of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great BBQ Book

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Book of Grilling, BBQ and Rotisserie Cookbook
Just bought a rotisserie and was hoping to find how to use it and good recipes. Only found about 4 or 5. I would've liken to know different types of meat you could cook in it and for how long you cook it for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Surprised at how great this book is
I got this book on a bargain table at Borders, and probably bought it because it was practically the only cookbook I don't already own.I was SHOCKED at how great it is.I expected simply a book of promotional recipes hocking his grill machines and written by staff writers--but then I read the introduction and wow!It never ocurred to me how influential his early travels as a boxer had been on his palate. The combinations of flavorings and grilled fruits are amazing, pulling fully on his travels through Africa and Asia. And honestly, most of the recipes can be made without the use of a grill or rotisserie' an oven, stovetop and/or broiler will do.Good job, George, write me another one!

2-0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment.
I found this book to be a sorry excuse for product advertisement.I own both the grill and rotisserie.I was hoping for recipes to help me learn how to use them. The rotisserie recipes were basically non-existant.I did not learn any thing from this book then what came with either the grill and/or rotisserie.Don't waste your money. Go to a good recipe exchange list and they will have what you need. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Dummies
This is a Grilling Cookbook. Not a book about grilling for dummies. I had never grilled before and this book goes off about sauces and marinades, when I just wanted to start by putting a slab of meat or a hot dog on the grill.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for entertaining!

The author may be a great cook but you'll have no chance of emulating him using this book. Whole sections are completely incoherent. Recipes are mostly impossible to follow.A recipe will have a list of ingredients -- some of which never show up again in the process.

5-0 out of 5 stars The start of a love affair: this book, dutch ovens and me
15 years ago I came across this book. Since then I and my family have enjoyed dozens of meals cooked in dutch ovens, both while camping and at home. All of my dutch oven cooking was not from this book, but this book taught me how. I was a complete novice. I didn't even know what a dutch oven was. Now I'm called on for every local block party in Mount Prospect, Illinois to cook my famouns secret cobbler recipies. Well they are all from this book. Great for beginners!

As a regular attendee to University of Michigan football games i can tell you that in Ann Arbor, MI, Tailgating is a religion. The spreads that some people lay out are fit for an expensive buffet. This great book contains some 90 plus recipes that run the range of the very simple such as beer brats, burgers and ribs, to exotic seafood dishes, and everything in between including dips, salsas, salads (the Chinese noodle salad is wonderful!), drinks, and desserts. There's also a great recipe for Philly cheesesteaks.

This great little cookbook is just the thing for the man who wants to host his own tailgate party. Starting out with useful checklists and pointers, the book tells you everything you need to get started. After that, the book launches into the recipes with everything from dips and salads, through fries, ribs and salmon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my first pick, but may be good supplment for hikers.
After reading many reviews, I purchased this book, BACKCOUNTRY COOKING, and THE BACK-COUNTRY KITCHEN by Teresa Marrone.I can't help but compare the two books, so my opinion on this book is relative to my opinion of the other.
5-0 out of 5 stars Eat Well
This book has a good amount (it's not War and Peace) of recipes that are tasty and easy for backpacking! Also a chapter or two of good advice concerning food in general...how to pack it, what kinds of things work, making your own dried foods, etc. Each meal has a chapter, like Breakfast, Lunch, whatever...there are no-cook things, all the way to fresh baked bread on the trail and pizza.Yum!(well no I haven't done the pizza or bread but I'm going to try it since they sound so good! And easy too)

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly recipes

I got this book to complete the series, but Idon't really like to read a bunch of recipes, but someday I might. ... Read more
