2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
As an experienced cook and new RV owner, I was excited to see this book advertised and quickly bought a copy. However, I was quickly disappointed.
1-0 out of 5 stars Impractical for many RVers
I found this book totally impractical and a waste of money for cooking in a small RV. It might be okay for the person with a 40 foot motorhome with a complete kitchen and all the comforts of home. Many of the recipes contain ingredients that I don't even keep at home.Access to perishables and fresh produce is assumed although the authors mention cooking in the middle of the Mohave Desert in the Introduction. Who takes cloth napkins on a camping trip (and where do you wash them)?A much more useful book is "Easy RV Recipes: Easy Recipes for the Traveling Cook" by Ferne Holmes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook
This is a great cookbook. I even use it cooking on my boat. Recipes taste very good, plus they seem quite healthy. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Do we need another by-the-seasons cookbook? Yes, emphatically, if it's Gordon Ramsay's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read, Great For Super Special Occasions
Gordon Ramsay's A Chef for All Seasons is a cookbook you can use for those super special occasions: when you want to impress those friends, who love to cook themselves, or when you just want to eat really awesome food yourself. A lot of the recipes call for expensive ingredients, like lobster, goose fat, the obligatory truffles and foie gras. But there are also quite a few recipes with more common ingredients, which are real gems. I just want to mention the Veal Chops with a Cream of Winter Vegetables (even Gordon calls this "a nice recipe for a mid-week dinner") and the Pillows of Ricotta Gnocchi with Peas and Fves.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Addition to the Gordon Ramsay French/Scottish repitoire
`A Chef for All Seasons' by the English high tempered chef, Gordon Ramsay looks like and is very much of a `follow the trend' book, just as `healthy eating' and `quick cooking' themes are bandwagons on which cookbook writers jump to squeeze another ounce of interest out of their audience for their latest book. Unlike some other seasonally or calendar oriented books such as Alfred Portale's `The 12 Seasons', Nigel Slater's `The Kitchen Diaries' and Brother Victor-Antoine d'Avila-Latourrette various `Twelve Month' cookbooks, the recipes in this book offer little real guidance to when it is best to make these various recipes. As the author himself says, for him, summer begins in early May and most of the best produce is available closer to autumn than in high summer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chef for All Seasons pleases superchefblog
Rather than a culinary version of "A Man for All Seasons," Gordon Ramsay's "A Chef for All Seasons" is a wonderful collection of great (read "Scottish") recipes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good book but run by advertising
I just pinned down a wedding venue, and I found this book helpful, with a few caveats.Firstly, brides-to-be should know that every venue in the book must pay "Here Comes the Guide" to be included. This engenders a lack of objectivity for the writers judging these locations.I am a travel writer myself so I felt a litle cheated by not having access to a trustworthy critical eye in the site reviews.Secondly, I was frustrated with the lack of photographs and felt the "Here Comes the Guide" website was much more helpful in this regard. All the locations in the book are online, and it's free there.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Book that Saved My Wedding
I absolutely dreaded planning my wedding and this book was the only thing that saved my fiance and I from spiraling into madness. We are both from the East Coast, relatively new to the Bay area, and had no family here to help us. Neither one of us had ever been married before or helped plan a wedding. Here Comes the Guide was the single most useful tool for planning our wedding, and is reliable enough that we didn't feel the need to interview a ridiculous number of vendors for each service before choosing one. If a vendor we liked was recommended by the book then we knew they had to be good. Here Comes the Guide is concise, recommends cool traditional and non-traditional reception sites, and provides all of the information you need to plan your own wedding without the help of a wedding planner. The only area which was lacking was limousines and transportation. Pretty much everything else, including bands, calligraphy, invitations, cakes, vendors, tuxedos, reception sites, and florists, was there in abundance.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for all N. CA Brides
I was given this book as a gift soon after my engagement. At the time, I hadn't given much thought to where I wanted to hold the event. This book was a great help in finding several locations that were ideal. As the wedding market in Northern CA is rather busy, it was very nice to have several choices so that we could find a venue that was availible on our desired date.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My lil' dictionary and I
I'm a guy, ok? I got this insuppressible urge to become a Vegetarian and cook gourmet vegetarian cuisine. It could happen to anyone. But it happened to me. I have probably 15 veggie cookbooks and try to prepare at least three new recipes per week. I can't remember even once being stumped by some arcane ingredient or bizarre description with this life saving dictionary in hand! The phonetic pronunciation of most entries is very gratifying as well. What more is there to say? Except that I'm now thinner, smarter, faster, more virile, high blood pressure is gone and I'm crazier than when I was a carnivore! But that's off topic. Long live the revolution!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
If you need a quick reference guide to look up culinary terms, or techniques, this one is great for the money. The book is some what small, about 1" thick, and light paper is used, which makes this book VERY convenient unlike most references book that are overly burdensome.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book for culinary careers.
This book contains not only English and French, but other languages from around the word.I am an student at the Las Vegas University studying for a four-year degree in culinary science. It's tough and you need a lot of guide books.Three I highly recommend is the Study Guide for Baking and Advance Baking. These books I found on Amazon.com and marketplace. They help me alot getting through my courses.Another tough course that involves a lot of science is Sanitation. The Study Guide for the National Servsafe Exam is also an excellent guide. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Is Charles Holcomb actually Douglas Hensley (and Pattie Hensley's husband)?
A reviewer, "Charles Holcomb", has reviewed all the books written by Douglas Hensley and Pattie Hensley. He has also reviewed several competing books -- such as this one -- and used those reviews as an opportunity to mention the "superior quality" of the book written by Douglas Hensley or Pattie Hensley. The Hensley titles are as follows:

1-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos, Terrible TERRIBLE recipes
This book has a lot of good ideas and nice photographs. However, the recipes are absolutely awful. Had a single recipe been no good I would have chalked it up to randomness; either it's something I just won't like or it was a bad recipe. However, I have tried three of the recipes in Le Cordon Bleu book, and all of them sucked. Pasta comes out very dry, gravlax has no flavor and foccacia bread is simply wrong. I will not try any more recipes from this book, they simply cannot be trusted. Try the Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen series or "The Way to Cook" by Julia Child. Stay away from this clunker.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't know who couldn't use this
Having been cooking for most of my adult life, and some of my childhood as well, I am well versed in many of the finer points of cooking and I totally found this to be one of the most amazing books I have come across. There is no lack of information about what this book covers and everything is very clear and right to the point. The pictures are very detailed and comprehensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book!
You don't have to be a cook to enjoy this book. Apart from the recipes which are generally not complicated, you will find within it's pages a comprehensive reference to truffles, caviar and fois gras, explaining history, production methods, buyingtips and what it is that makes these three the most expensive cooking ingredients on the planet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Now more than ever
This book comes at a perfect time.Everyone is a litle down and worried about life. What a great time to indulge yourself at home. The recipes in this book are clear and "cookable" (and you do not have to be a master chef to cook them), the ingredients tell your guests that you really care and it is no more expensive than cooking a prime rib dinner. The writing is excellent and the pictures are beautiful.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can cook Foie Gras?!!!
Very clear recipes, beautiful pictures, very thoughtful writing on the environmental issues. Most importantly I have now actually cooked with Foie Gras in my own home and the meal was no more expensive than a good cut of meat and wowed my guests. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Once a Month Cooking
I am an avid meal planner.I plan my meals for the month and shop for the majority of the food once a month. This alone saves me time knowing that I have the product in my cupboard waiting to be cooked.I stumbled upon this book and thought OK I will give it a try.It took me about a year to finally try the system and to my amazement, it wasn't so bad.It was a LONG day of cooking, but very organized.Than I was pleasantly surprised that every recipe was actually very flavorful. This is an excellent book for busy moms that loves to make home-cooked meals for their family.I strongly suggest buying and using this book.Just don't wait a year like I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has made dinner a hit at our house.
I have had the first edition of this book since 1995 and use it over and over.I have cooked all the plans. My family still loves the recipes, and it saves me money.I have taken a break from it from time to time.Sometimes I have incorporated my own recipes.Sometimes I have modified the ones in the book to fit our pantry stock. That is the beauty of it!We are a family of 5, and a lot of meals give us leftovers my husband can take to lunch the next day. It's easy to double recipes and have another night's meal, too.
3-0 out of 5 stars Too-big, starch-rich recipes. Still, worth a shot!
When I first got the book, back in the 90s, the recipes were way too big -- serves 8! I got rid of the book only to buy it again a few years later when I realized I could store the food in smaller portions (duh!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Sugarcraft for beginners
This is an exceptionally good book if you're trying your hand at making fancy cake decorations for the first time. It is in full colour and gives extremely good illustrations of how to go about all the basic techniques. It covers everything; working marzipan, sugarpaste, butter icing, and royal icing - all kinds of uses. It is really the best book I've encountered so far. It also has some cake recipes as well as recipes for how to make the different cake coverings. Definitely a worthy buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive guide to throwing parties
This book is full of colorful pictures and tips and tricks that make it fun to flip through. It is well organized into sections, covering everything about throwing a party from decorating, to setting up a room, to themes, to delicious recipes! There is a section on cocktails, including recipes, explanations for wines, and cheese and food pairings.Denise also reviews the basics of different foods, seasonings, and basic kitchen equipment you might want to invest in.She also includes a food emergency section that gives tips on how to correct mistakes at the last minute (lumpy gravy or burned entree, ect.). Finally, at the end of the book is a section of party case studies for 9 parties. You could theoretically just choose to throw one of those parties and every detail from the theme to decorations to drinks to the menu would already be planned for you (examples include fancy evening dinner party, asian inspired dinner, spring garden party, and thanksgiving dinner!). Especially useful about this book was that the recipes could be adapted for up to 75 people and Denise also offers tips for saving money and time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I own at least 150 different cookbooks and this is by far the best! It's loaded with great information that you can't find in other books and the way it's presented is beautiful and looks so simple.I haven't had a chance to try the receipes yet but I'm sure they'll be great!I've never provided feedback on items that I've purchased in the past but I was so impressed with this book, I had to pass it on.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved my life!
After struggling and wracking my brain for WEEKS about how to entertain my whole department at work without breaking the bank, along comes this great book.No more problems!Denise and her crack team (including co-author Cindie Flannigan) have created the ultimate How-To guide! Many of the dishes provoked arguments, and in one case a fist fight, over who got the last piece.Everybody went home full and happy - even the guy with the broken tooth! This book probably saved my life; definitely my job - I have that in writing. And I even learned about wine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A First Class Presentation
Warehouse Cookbook is a beautiful work of art, and I am sure also a labor of love which all cooks can appreciate! I think that the recipes sound wonderful. In fact, I have just purchased two of the books, one to giveas a gift! On the final page of the book, ideas are requested by theauthor. I love to cook and especially hunt for books that focus onlow-cost, frugal cooking. The idea of focusing on warehouse shopping isexcellent! My only suggestion, however, is that I would really love tosee moreday to day practical insights & how to's on a daily basiswith daily type foods such as those that are hinted on pages 8 & 9,Ingredient Cooking Secrets. I would love to see a monthly menu withmonthly family recipes included, like the recipe for meatloaf, and agrocery list to go along. The idea of how to utilize a box of Costcotomatoes is excellent. I would like recipes and breakdowns on manyitems to make cooking lowcost and affordable for families. Hope this ishelpful. It is sent in not to criticize, because the book is truly abeautiful cookbook that I will treasure. But, rather, it is sent toencourage because Paula Easley obviously has alot to share with others. Also, I would love to know more about her adventures and life in Alaska.I hope Paula publishes a second book because Iwould surely purchase it!

Hi, I'm Paula Easley's nephew, Kale. I just wanted to say that this is a very good book. I looked through it, and I have to say that it looks good. My step-dad edited it, and he said he thought it was really good, too. Ieven asked my little 2-year-old sister what she thought, and she said"yes" she liked it. Then she said,"Go away. I reading thenewspaper. You be really quiet."
