5-0 out of 5 stars The book that saved my marriage...
So our baby gets up every day at 4:30am, and by dinnertime, I'm ready for bed, too tired to stand let alone cook. My husband, while great at cleaning, is lousy at cooking, so I got a crock pot for my birthday.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good eating
The recipes presented here are easy to make and very tasty. My family, friends, and I enjoy them immensely.

4-0 out of 5 stars * Saves Those Who Cannot Cook!! Or Who Don't Want To! *
You cannot go wrong with this book. Many recipes are super simple... you buy five ingredients, throw it in the crockpot and PRESTO CHANG-O RE-ARRANGE-O:YOU HAVE A GREAT MEAL WHEN YOU GET HOME!!!!!!!!I sound corny about this, I know, but you don't know how wonderful it is to do so little and come home to such great, home cooked meals.I hate cooking.I cannot cook. This book is my saving grace. So far my favorite is the Keilbasa Black Bean Soup... hearty, thick, satisfying.Love it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not so "real" or "simple"
I enjoy Real Simple magazine and their other two books. However, this is a little disappointing as a cookbook. It is certainly pretty on my kitchen shelf, with large pictures of each dish and an attractive layout. But the recipes just don't strike me as particularly "real" or "simple". The "No Shop Meals" recipes ALL contain foods that are rarely in my kitchen, even though I cook often, so that defeats the purpose of the chapter and leaves me feeling lied to. I was going to try a scallop chowder recipe, but realized that buying the ingredients (even frozen) was going to cost far more than going out to a nice seafood restaurant.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best cookbook ever
Granted, I don't sit around reading cookbooks, but this one was the best I've ever picked up.Wonderfully simple yet creative... and the pictures alone could earn it a place on my coffee table.Incredibly modern.Worth the investment. This is how cooking should be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Little Book
This is a beautiful helpful little cookbook that is well worth adding to anyone's collection. It offers clear color photographs of the recipes and the clever ribbon bookmark is a handy touch. The recipes do look simple and easy and I look forward to trying them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Easy, Portable , and Fast. to make and eat.
Ok, I can't really cook, and I really don't have time to try either.I've been looking for years for a cookbook with brain dead recipes that is cheap, easy to make, and most important to me, easy to carry.I'm a very busy person and needs to muti-task between work and school. I heard about Bisquick for years but never used it. I bought this book, sight unseen, because I thought it sounded too good to be true on how easy it is, that I would just give it a shot. This is the best book I ever got for realist recipes that I can make.I baked the Cheeseburger Pie, while I was cleaning my apt and doing homework.25 mins in the oven, it came out great. With the leftovers, I reheated it in the microwave and it came out good. This is a great book to give to somebody who can't or has very limited skills cooking or a college student, who has access to a oven or a toaster oven that can bake.If you want to make it a gift theme, give them the book, a pie pan, and a box of Bisquick. I can not wait till have I the chance to try out the other recipes but the best thing is that each recipe comes with a calorie count for each slice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Betty Crocker Bisquick Impossibly Easy Pies
Have always wanted all the Impossibly Easy Pies in one book and now I have it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Cookbook
I've clipped & saved Impossible Pie recipes for years. When a friend bought the compiled Book and made one for a luncheon, I just had to find one. Finally did and I'm thrilled to have all the Impossible Pie recipes in one book! Two other friends and I formed a weight-loss support group so the nutritional break-down following each recipe is an absolute necessity for us.We all have a copy now and love it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Because "White Trash Cuisine" was already taken...it's "Semi-Homemade Cooking"
I admit that my review title was unfair and harsh. As was the opening remark I was going to borrow from P.J. O'Rourke: "...the only reason you would cook this would be to convince your ex-wife (or parole officer) that you were trying to live like a human being."
4-0 out of 5 stars Try some of these, they're good, they're fast!
After reading a few of the reviews of this cookbook, I was a little confused. I bought Semi-Homemade Cooking without reading any reviews, and I'm glad I did. I'm a regular old mom and housewife, and one of my main goals every day is to make a delicious, hearty meal for my hard-working husband to appreciate when he gets home. I can't make a from-scratch masterpiece every day (especially with a one-year-old running around), so that is where this cookbook comes in handy!
3-0 out of 5 stars Advertising
This book really isn't about eating on a budget or nutritious food. The way I see it, it is all about advertising. While this may have changed with the 2nd release of the book, the first release is just pages of her brand loyalties. Do we really need to use her brand recommendations for butter?Or saltines?Come on!

3-0 out of 5 stars great ideas not so great tasting
While I enjoyed the book's concepts and found the recipes and preperation easy to follow I found that the recipes are not so tasty.Several of them were just too repetitive and not something I would enjoy eating day in and day out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I have read other Once a Month Cooking books and this is by far the best that I have encountered. Each recipe is on its own page, andthe ingredients and amounts are clearly listed in a grid format (for 6, 12, on up, servings) with cooking instructions, packaging suggestions and ways to cut the fat content. The website has even more recipes in this same format that you can download. If you wanted to, you could have the book's spine removed, have it 3-hole punched and create your own recipe binder, inserting whatever downloaded recipes you desire.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good techniques, less than stellar recipes
First the good- I like the format, the technique works well, and I enjoyed making a lot of recipes for my small family that I could serve and store. I liked being able to grab additional recipes off the internet site.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for those who do cook
I love this book!!!I also love the entire concept of "Super Suppers".With busy lives and busy families this book can be an answer to "whats for dinner tonight?".The recipe use normal regular food, not anything exotic. But they taste great!!!I have already tried several recipes and my entire family has enjoyed them.Keep up the good work "Super Suppers".Only next time do add the nutritional info, it would be a big help.

I was very excited to see that Super Suppers was sharing some simple-but-good recipes in this book.I will definitely be making many of these meals.

Marold's review is spot on and I recommend and concur with it; it does a salient and well written job of describing this book and its culinary context among other sandwich cookbooks.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Sandwich Book. Buy It Now!
`Simple Italian Sandwiches' by Jennifer and Jason Denton and Kathryn Kellinger contains recipes from the New York City restaurants `ino' and `inoteca', which happen to be a small part of the growing Mario Batali / Joe Bastianich empire of restaurants. They are such a small part that their names are based on the Italian suffix that means `small'.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Recently-Divorced!
After my divorce, I was bummed enough where I didn't feel like making attempts at cooking that I knew would end badly anyway.I picked this book up as a way to be able to bust out a quick meal without having to resort to clogging my arteries at a fast-food joint, or ordering yet another in a long chain of pizzas. It's got me started on road to cooking for myself, and not just simple recipes like this. That said, it would be a good book for the recently-divorced and those just heading off to college. There's a wide variety of recipes, they don't cost a fortune in unusual ingredients, and a large majority of them taste really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Easy
I love this book so much I got one for my Husband, Dad and a army buddy. The recipes are easy, fast & filling. Calorie, fat and carb counts are listed and the cooking instructions are humorus at times. If I were you I'd get it. We also use Man a Can a Grill throughout the grilling season. Check that one out too!

5-0 out of 5 stars A real surprise!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than her first cookbook
My mother gave me this book and her first cookbook, too.Hard to believe, but this book seems worse than the first one.She must get paid a bazillion dollars by the Processed Food Association because no one in their right mind would use so much crappy processed food in their recipes. She seems totally oblivious to the fact that fresh food is available in her regular supermarket and that its just as easy to use in recipes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a dummy's cookbook for smart people
This book is incredibly informative. It's everything I wanted to learn about food, but was too lazy to ask -- where it comes from, what to look for when buying it, how to cut it all up... and that's aside from the great recipes. This mass of info is fortunately so intelligently written and laid out that it never really feels like overload. I'd put the book on my coffee table if I didn't need it so much in the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book I've Needed
I like to eat - other people's cooking. This can be a problem as friends sometimes expect you to reciprocate and invite them over for more than beer and peanuts. Thanks to this book, I was actually able to have a dinner party - well two friends - over to the house on Saturday and feed them a roast chicken and green salad. That may not sound like much to you but it was a big deal to me.The nice thing about this book is that it doesn't make you feel stupid even if you know nothing about cooking. For know nothings like me, it can start you at the beginning, but if you already have your four standby recipes it looks as if it could help you double or triple that number.I recommend it for everyone. ... Editorial Review

It's easy to fall into high-fat, fast-food habits when we're busy, and who isn't busy? The American Heart Association has a solution: 200 recipes that are tasty, healthful, low-fat, and fast. The recipes--conveniently spiral-bound--take 20 minutes or less preparation time, and most take just a few minutes of additional cooking time. (Some require more cooking time, but you don't have to hover over them.) Don't skip breakfast when you can make Cinnamon-Bran Pancakes (total time: 11 to 14 minutes), Stuffed French Toast (16 to 18 minutes), or a Banana-Kiwi Breakfast Shake (5 minutes) in less time than it takes to pick up a muffin on your way to work. Your family or guests won't guess you whipped up dinner in a hurry when you make Pasta-Crusted Fish with Marinara Sauce (15 minutes), Sherried Seafood Sauté (15 minutes), or Skillet Chicken Thighs with Dried Berries (20 minutes). The book has an assortment of one-dish meals like Salmon and Brown Rice Bake, Black Bean Lasagna, and Chicken with Broccoli and Bulgur. There are also appetizers, vegetables, breads, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. All recipes include preparation time, cooking time, and nutritional information: calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat (total, saturated, polyunsaturated, monounsaturated), cholesterol, and sodium. Yummy photographs decorate the book. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars just what we needed!
I just purchased 5 cookbooks from amazon to help revive our tired (non-existent:) cooking habits. But it looks like I should have just purchased this one!!With a picky 4 year old girl and a hungry one year boy it was definitely time to improve our eating habits.I am so excited about this book from Goldfarb.Every recipe sounds relatively easy to do (under 30 minutes), healthy-no nasty cream of something soup!(includes nutritional information),and well-tested too!The book is well organized and easy to read. Her website has the coordinating shopping lists week by week (5 recipes per week) and the shopping lists are also easy to use and include all food needed for each recipe (optional ingredients and sides too).I am very excited about this book and can't wait to try it out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great!
No kids, but I bought this cookbook to make meals for my and my boyfriend. I wanted something healthy, easy, and not too fancy because we are pretty picky eaters...and this book is fantastic. I love the way that it's oragnized and all the recipes have been great so far. I feel like we are both learning how to cook more and it's a lot nicer than grabbing fast food on the way home from work. I feel like with this book will make us better eaters, better cooks and also enjoy cooking and meals more. Thanks Aviva :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Cookbook I Use the Most
Aviva's cookbook is really stellar. Her recipes are simple, tasty, healthy, and fun.I love that there are so many vegetarian recipes, and it's terrific that they are organized by season so you can take advantage of the produce available at different times of year.I am not a great cook, and only make one or two homemade meals a week. But when I do, I am using Aviva's cookbook. It's the one on my kitchen counter with all the page corners folded down and notes in the margins. It will never find it's way to my "cookbook graveyard" cabinet above my stove.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Anyone Who Wants To Learn To Cook On a Budget
I have to disagree with FrootSmoothie's opinion that some of the recipes in this book are "silly."I have now had this book for 6 years and even though I am no longer in college, I use this book almost every day.I needed to be told how long to hard-boil an egg, and I just recently learned how to poach eggs using the recipe in this book. For people that haven't cooked much, if at all, this book is a life-saver.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for non-cooks!!
I absolutely love this book... The title - Quick.Cheap.Easy. is perfectly accurate. I am definitely a non-cook but this book makes it easy to cook interesting new meals without having to buy a ton of ingredients for one meal and without having to devote your day to it. I've tried 5 different recipes so far and each one of them has been a hit; this stuff is good! I definitely recommend this to those who are trying to learn to cook; this is a perfect first step. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars More Great, Simple Recipes. Buy It!!!
`Italian Two Easy, Simple Recipes from the London River Café' by proprietor / chefs, Rose Gray and Ruth Rodgers is the sixth cookbook by these ladies, and I welcome it with almost as much anticipation as I did the next installment of `The Lord of the Rings' or at least the DVD release of same.
