4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Have Time To Cook?Bisquick II Will Be Your Friend!!
I was given the first Bisquick cookbook as a gift a few years ago and at the time, I thought using 'that stuff' was for novices and/or fast food types. It took a few successful recipes from that book to knock the food snobbery out of me!5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have companion!
If you love Bisquick, you will love this book. If you've never tried Bisquick, don't be a snob- pick up a box of Bisquick and this book and see how much you can do with "pancake mix."Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The 1200-Calorie-a-day Menu Cookbook
It is very informative and has several great recipes.Needs a few more pictures and a possible menu plan. But over all a good book to give you some recipes to get you started in planning your 1200 calorie a day menu.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misunderstanding
The only complaint I have about this book is that I thought it would help me cook a 1,200 calorie a day menu for myself.I was looking for a book to help me learn to cook for 1 or two.The recipes contained in this book are for 4-6 servings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most useful cookbook I own
This cookbook is SUCH a good idea! The fact that it has so many menus that total under 1200 calories is so helpful when eating "less" can be so boring. And, that it has breakfast as well as lunch & dinner is unusual for a "diet" cookbook, too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Low Carb and low fat - is that what you really want?
I've read through the whole book, but haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet. They sound good, but she uses non-fat products frequently.A good low carb diet needs good fats included in it.If I use these recipes I will be using products that still have the fat in them.

5-0 out of 5 stars even kids like it
This is my first review but I had to let people know that this book is so easy, fast and the best tasting food I ever made. We tried all kinds of new foods through this book that I normally wouldn't buy. I'm no cook but even my finicky kids loved these recipes. It's also nice to know we're eating healthier. Great book!!!

I am a diabetic and have to follow a diet that closely monitors my carbohydrates. This book has delicious, easy recipes that everyone will enjoy.I love the simplicity - every recipe has less than seven ingredients.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, if you're looking for utter simplicity
The recipes in this book are very simple indeed, and many call for canned, processed, and/or frozen ingredients instead of fresh. That said, they taste pretty good and make weekday evenings a lot less hectic. I turn to this book once in a while when I am totally harried and just need to get something on the table, fast.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too Easy.
The other two reviewers raved about this, so maybe it's just me, but the title should be "The most simplistic recipes ever created".There is actually a recipe for a toasted cheese sandwhich. If you do not already know how to make this, then this book may be too advanced.Pass on this unless you can't come up with a can of soup, chicken & bag of veggies on your own.
5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for 4 Ingredients!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Reforming Fast Food Junkie!
As a guy who LOVES fast food (give me anything fried!), I've been disappointed to find my metabolism slowing as I get older.Translation: I now find myself packing on the pounds when I eat fast food. This book shows quick and easy ways to prepare some of my favorite fast food items, in a way that tastes just as good, but isn't hard on the waist line. It's a good thing, too, because I don't know if I ever could have given up the drive thru!

5-0 out of 5 stars The secret is out!
As someone who craves McDonalds french fries, but desperately steers my car away from the drive-thru, it's nice to know that I can still get my "fast food fix" without the guilt.I was wary of this book when I first heard about it from a friend and thought that the recipes would take way longer to make than they do.Plus, how could you actually make healthy french fries that still tasted like Mickie D's?I was surprised to find that not only was the food easy and quick to make, but it tastes really good.My days of avoiding the drive-thru are over.Who needs it?I think I've found this year's stocking stuffer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Food
I don't think you need to be a "fast-food junkie" to enjoy this cookbook. While the calorie- and fat-cutting recipies will certainly be enjoyed by fast-food lovers, the not-too-difficult, easy-to-follow directions let anyone create food that is low in fat but also fun and different.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars A few winners, but mostly boring and flavorless
I really wish this book had reviews written IN THE BOOK.Because...some of the recipes are really quite good and flavorful, but most, like 75% or more, are really boring.I enjoy the Mexican Cornbread, the Tastes-like-Chile-Rellenos, the Coq au Vin, the Steak Fajitas; but mostly, I'm adding in the salt and fat that they tried to take out since it would be too boring otherwise. There are just not enough other flavors to make up for the lack of salt and fat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without this cookbook
I also bought the forget it entertaining book. These both are the best slow cooker recipe books I've ever bought.I am not one for soups or soupy dinner often. This book saved my dinners. With 3 young kids and a business to run, my time is valuable. These dinners are fabulous, easy and practicle. Most ingredients are in most kitchens and soups are a very small part of the whole book. This is a must have for every family! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easily impress yourself with your cooking
I had this book on my shelf for about a year and finally decided to make some homemade pizza. I had always been intimidated by making dough of any kind but this book made it easy. The pizza crust came out great, so much so that my kids said that they never wanted me to order out anymore for pizza. So, with that success I decided to try other recipes and as of yet I have had nothing but great success with every one of them. Chef Puck has created a great book with easy to follow instructions and with great tips in the margins. This is a great cookbook from beginning to end. Thank you Chef!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, mouthwatering recipes
Wolfgang, truly does make it easy and swoonfully delicious.Even dishes that are simple in preparation, like the panko crusted scallops, are stunning.I'm anxiously awaiting his next cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT IS EASY!
Wolfgang puck's cookbook is out of this world! The recipes are easy and most do not take a long time. The ingredients are easy to find and are not expensive. All of the recipes are absolutely delicious! You will not be disappointed in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes - different from most low carb recipes
This is not the run-of-the-mill low carb cookbook. It contains different spins on recipes.I'm having a great time trying these recipes.Heartily recommend this for the serious low carber!

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST down to earth low carb book
I own several low carb cookbooks and this one has many great recipes and is not written in the usual stuffy medical jargon that is common place today.I recommend this book to anyone interested in the low carb lifestyle...it has a substitution chart and a glossary of unusual items...any low carber knows there are a lot of "unusual items" on our grocery lists, and it's nice to know what they are!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for the money out there
This is a great little book at a very reasonable price. It is full of helpful hints and quick recipes that should appeal to a wide range of tastes. Most ingredients are common to the lo-carb kitchen, or would be fairly easy to obtain. The sweeteners Sharron uses are Splenda packets, SteviaPlus and Sweet & Slender (luo han guo) which are my three favorite sweeteners. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I like this book, being new to the crock pot scene I didnt have any real recipies and this book allowed me to try new things and start making great food.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay
Most of the recipes are pretty good and at least worth trying. It provided nutrition information and nice substitution suggestions for each recipe, along with a section on meatless meals. I have found that everything seems to overcook for me, though I am not sure if that is a crock pot problem or not, however most of the things I have made taste pretty good. Just be warned, NOTHING will come out looking as good as it does in the pictures, and there are beautiful pictures for each recipe in this book, but experience tells me that meats, especially poultry, just doesn't come out like they show, and neither do vegetables; that is just the nature of slow cooking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook for someone wanting easy recipes
For me, this is a perfect cookbook. I don't have a lot of room in my kitchen. I want meals I can cook quickly. The recipes is food that you pretty much throw together in a hurry. Even the more intricate recipes are easy. These are the kind of meals that women cooked in the 50s, '60s and '70s before the Food Network got middle America women (and yes men too) wanting to be gourmet chefs. If I had the time and especially the room, it would be fun to try more elaborate dishes. But for people who want something more than frozen meals, this is a great cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woktabulous!
With my wife's recent interest in Thailand and a pending trip to boot, I picked up Quick & Easy Thai.I still figure one of the best ways to understand a different culture is through a full belly.Quick & Easy Thai has one of my most important prerequisites for a good cookbook...great pictures.Although I have only made a handful of dishes, the pictures which adorn the pages of this well constructed book beg to have me make more.
5-0 out of 5 stars It really is quick & easy!
I'm a college student who grew up in a family where the most elaborate meal we had was chili dogs, so needless to say I didn't pick up a lot of culinary skills. At first I was worried that the recipes would be too complicated or exotic for me, but my boyfriend and I love asian cuisine so we thought we'd give it a shot. I'm so glad I bought this cookbook! It really lives up to its name - every thing is quick, easy, and delicious! The curries are wonderful and simple to make, and there's even detailed instructions on how to make rice (again, great for the cooking-impaired like myself!) The ingredients are generally inexpensive and easy to find (even at my dumpy little grocery store.) I would definately recommend this cookbook to anyone who is unfamiliar with asian cooking or new to cooking in general. Wonderful book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty, easy Thai food at home
I purchased this book in order to make the shrimp curry with pineapple which my wife loves.Although I'm sure it's not the most authentic Thai book out there, the recipes are simple and easy to make and taste enough like the real thing for me.So far we've made the above curry, Spicy Basil Stir-Fry, grilled flank steak with Crying Tiger sauce as well as a few of the noodle dishes. All were great and very quick. An added plus; most of the dishes are quite healthy or can be with a few quick changes.I use light coconut sauce to help lower the calorie content. The recipes are really quick too - once you've chopped the food the cooking times are very short. The book has many great pictures too. ... This book is phenominal! I made the "Zesty Pork Chops" the other night...quick, easy and made it for friends who all said "wow! I want this recipe!"
5-0 out of 5 stars He just keeps getting better!
I've long admired Pepin and have several of his earlier books. This newest book (and PBS series) brings us his approach to "fast food" which I think is meant with a wink and a smile. It's only fast in the time sense!I'm a serious foodie and this is real cooking; equally useful for family meals or entertaining.

I have given numerous copies of this as gifts and the recipients have all been appreciative. I have tried 75% of the recipes, which is amazing in itself, and only one dish was disappointing. 4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious, easy recipes
I have been on a vegan diet for three months, using the recipes from this book for about 70% of my meals. The other 30% of what I eat is McDougall-approved foods such as baked sweet potatoes, oil-free hash browns and salads. I love the recipes in this book. They truly are easy to make and very delicious. You can get the ingredients at any grocery store, but it might be best to try a health-food grocery store because it will be easier to find foods with fewer chemicals and preservatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is incredible!!
I just got this book nottoo long ago and I love it! This book is great for people like me: a vegetarian on a budget (though is not limited to people on a budget). I have always wanted to eat healthier for cheap with my hectic schedule - and I found what I was lookng for in this book. This book is chockfull of creative recipes that are healthy and simple. Also includes an excellent veggie and fruit guide which gives you the skinny on buying raw produce. This is great for me when I explore and try new foods. Also has an interesting piece on beer. I have this book prominently displayed in my kitchen as a constant reference. I use this daily! Highly recommended!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best "first" cookbook you can buy
This book didn't make me a vegetarian, but I fully credit it for me STAYING a vegetarian. I found this book during my rocky first few months when I was somehow subsisting on pasta and ramen noodles. This book opened my eyes to what vegetarian eating really meant.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Vegetarian Cookbook!
I have tons of vegetarian cookbooks, and this is the one I use most frequently. Most of my other books have lengthly preparation times, ingredients that necessitate trips to two or more stores, or (my personal gripe) recipes that require other recipes in the book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Recipes are yummo, but not for my kids
I can't believe this is supposed to be a book dedicated to kid food!?It's dedicated to all those picky eaters out there.... hmmm. This book contains mostly recipes that will not fly on my 3-1/2 year old's plate, and the rest are repeated recipes from her other books.I'm glad I just took this out from the library.I think these recipes would work well with 8 year olds on up, but that's just my opinion. As always, check your library first before wasting your money.
3-0 out of 5 stars Will My Kids Eat It?
Getting kids to eat food other than peanut butter & jelly, and chicken nuggets is a struggle for many parents. In this cookbook of kid food, Rachael Ray has tried to enliven children's' repertoire of foods to include eggplant, succotash, and lots of yummy green plants. As other reviewers have noted, however, be aware that this cookbook is a compilation of some of Rachael's previous recipes from other cookbooks. If you are a collector of her recipes, be sure to peruse this book prior to its purchase.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nummy! Rachels recipes are now among my favorite.
At first glance, I laughed. All of the recipes list several ingredients, and many have a bunch of things that I didn't think my 3-year old would really be interested in...but I was SO wrong! First, and most importantly -- the food is awesome! Second, it really does take 30 minutes or less for her meal plans. (I timed it!) And third, my 3-year old has eaten everything (even though some of them I leave out certain things) that I have made from the book. It's a MUST have for your collection of books that you will use regularly. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Ever get a midnight hankering for onion fritters, or for a plate of lamb stewed in coconut milk? The recipes for these Indian delicacies are widely considered to be on the forbidding side. Yet Madhur Jaffrey, an international authority on Indian food and the host of several tandoori-driven TV shows, makes it all seem relatively easy. The kicker: more than 70 of the dishes can be prepared in a half-hour or less. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, easy introduction to Indian cooking
I've used this book for several years--at least once a week. It's a good introduction to Indian cooking and, with the use of the pressure cooker, it's easy to make a tasty recipe when you don't get home until 6 pm. Once you're used to these recipes, you can adapt those in some of her other books (and recipes by other people) for the pressure cooker. My one warning -- in my experience you need a LOT less liquid in the pressure cooker for some of the recipes. Experiment to see what works for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Recipes, not so Authentic
I'm a huge fan of Madhur Jaffrey's show and her restaurants. Her style is to add an American flair to Indian cooking. While her recipes are fun and easy, they aren't pure authentic indian meals. They are, however, still interesting and tasty....just don't go to India expecting to see these items on a menu!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook! Make it your first one.
Great cookbook for the beginning Indian cook. Everything I've made has come out tasty according to my Indian son-in-law. Good explanations for ingredients and preparation steps. Also a nice variety of dishes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick preparation and delicious!
Love the binding on this book.Very good recipes.Ingredients you usually have on hand. Will suggest it to friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars Busy People should eat better than this!
I own a lot of cookbooks and have honestly never purchased a more ridiculous book. Seven ingredients or less, yes - it's easy when you're using canned soup, prepared chili or bottled marinade. The recipes feature a lot of processed ingredients too like non-dairy creamer for potato chowder. And I don't need a slow cooker to make tea - 8 teabags, water, mint extract and splenda - 2 hours in the old slow cooker and voila, you have something that should take ten minutes to make. Convenient - maybe, Easy - yes, Delicious, no way.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Cookbook Is Great!!!!!
First of all, if you purchase the book, read the story at the beginning of the cookbook. Dawn Hall, the author, put together her cookbooks to help support her family when her husband had Cancer and then passed away. Now, other families who have a family member with cancer or other organizations can use her cookbook's to sell and raise money for their charitable organization's.Her family's story is an incredibly inspirational one.
