5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars A few winners, but mostly boring and flavorless
I really wish this book had reviews written IN THE BOOK.Because...some of the recipes are really quite good and flavorful, but most, like 75% or more, are really boring.I enjoy the Mexican Cornbread, the Tastes-like-Chile-Rellenos, the Coq au Vin, the Steak Fajitas; but mostly, I'm adding in the salt and fat that they tried to take out since it would be too boring otherwise. There are just not enough other flavors to make up for the lack of salt and fat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without this cookbook
I also bought the forget it entertaining book. These both are the best slow cooker recipe books I've ever bought.I am not one for soups or soupy dinner often. This book saved my dinners. With 3 young kids and a business to run, my time is valuable. These dinners are fabulous, easy and practicle. Most ingredients are in most kitchens and soups are a very small part of the whole book. This is a must have for every family! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best bread machine reipes book
I do recommend this book to everybody passionate about bread. As a matter of fact I wasn' t passionate until I had the book. With other books is always one good bread and five hard as a rock ones. No fail with this one. I want to say that because I am young people laugh at me when I tell them I make my own bread( 2 loaves a week), but when they try it,they WOW! I have tried about 30% of the recipes and always have something new and exciting to try. One advise: Use measuring cups and follow the instructions! Do not use your imagination with this one, keep it for other art projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Gift
This book quite good or so dare I say. I was educated on several aspects of cooking and cutting that I took for granted and was unaware off. It gives you just enough information to be dangerous. In truth, it is a fun book and it has helped me prepare some clever dishes. This book was given to me as a gift and it definitely is cool to be sure.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Like this Book
I found this book to be quite good. I learned a few things that I did not know. It gives you just enough information to be dangerous. Really, it is a fun book and it has helped me prepare some neat dishes. I found this book to be a very cool gift that was given to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book about knife skills for the serious cook
A serious home cook that has spent the last 25 years polishing her cooking skills writes this review.I purchased this book as a supplement to "The Professional Chef:7th edition" and I very glad that I did not listen to the spotlight review that said it was a duplicate. This book is clearly NOT a duplicate of the information in "The Professional Chef".

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I like this book, being new to the crock pot scene I didnt have any real recipies and this book allowed me to try new things and start making great food.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay
Most of the recipes are pretty good and at least worth trying. It provided nutrition information and nice substitution suggestions for each recipe, along with a section on meatless meals. I have found that everything seems to overcook for me, though I am not sure if that is a crock pot problem or not, however most of the things I have made taste pretty good. Just be warned, NOTHING will come out looking as good as it does in the pictures, and there are beautiful pictures for each recipe in this book, but experience tells me that meats, especially poultry, just doesn't come out like they show, and neither do vegetables; that is just the nature of slow cooking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pressure Cooking Made Easy!
My mother and grandmothers all had pressure cookers... Mainly for beans and canning.I was using mine to quick cook chicken before making chicken soups.I am so glad I have this book. What variety and challenges! Now, lots of different bean soups without guessing the amounts of herbs and spices and how long to cook (which I am very bad at). Also, I modify reciepes for various meats (per my husband's request). It is so easy with this book!!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Cookbook
You'll find few recipes in this book that aren't excellent. It's been a fast-selling book for years now, and there are so many fine dishes in this book that you'll probably add it to those three or four cookbooks that you can really rely on (such as "How to Cook Everything"). It's that good. Just try a few of the recipes...you'll be a fan I bet!

5-0 out of 5 stars If more stars were available . . .
I cannot praise this book too highly. As a long-time cook, but novice pressure cook, I found Ms. Sass's recipes simple to follow, and always as promised. Delicious doesn't begin to describe her Mushroom Barley Soup, which she correctly bills as the same comfort food that is served at Ratner's Restaurant. I grew up in NYC, and ate often at that landmark, and my family has patiently tolerated my frequent references to how scrumprious that particular soup was--well--I just produced it, courtesy of Lorna Sass, in my own pressure cooker (Kuhn-Rikon, also divine to use). The risotto with leeks, mushrooms and olives is also noteworthy, but I am confident that all these recipes are. This book, as well as The Pressured Cook, also by Sass, are all anyone needs to produce exceptionally satisfying dishes made with wholesome ingredients, and ready quickly. The portions are generous, and the introductions to each recipe are accurate, informative and inspiring. If more stars were available, I would award them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not quite the best
I was looking for recipes that was easy and none complicated. To many of the recipes had ingredents that were not alway in your pantry. I also have the next Lorna J. Sass pressure cookers cook book. This book is very much the same as this one. But it has much of the alike recipes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some good recipes, but . . .
I have only recently discovered the great and wonderful pressure cooker, and I wanted a one-pot meal type cookbook to get me started. There are some good recipes in this cookbook, but the majority of the recipes are on the exotic side.I like to try something new every now and then, but this cookbook is 75% exotic and 25% mainstream cooking, and I prefer my cookbooks balanced a little more the other way. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars predictable, lacks imagination + one MAJOR error
I find that many of these recipes taste the same, because she has a few ingrediants that she calls for over and over: eggplant, mushrooms, cumin.Ho hum.Plus, there is one MAJOR mistake on page 106 -- in the Three Bean Chili with Bulghar, there should only be one (1) tsp of chili powder (or less), not 2 TBSP as it calls for!Despite my gut feeling that this was wrong, I followed her instructions, but had to freeze the entire batch I made, it was INEDIBLE (and we like spicy foods). Now when I make a chili, I scoop out about 1 cup of the frozen way-too-spicy chili and add it as the spice.I should be doing this for months...

4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious food; a couple of minor gripes
So far, the recipes I've tried from this book have been delicious and fairly easy to prepare. (I avoid anything that looks very time-consuming or that requires exotic ingredients.) I'd definitely buy this book again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness for this book!
I am a vegetarian with two young daughters - and no time to cook. On top of that my kids are allergic to dairy and soy. I had no idea what to cook for our family and how to find the time to cook it until I found this cookbook. Every recipe I have tried so far (and there aren't that many I haven't tried) has been really good. I start the recipe the night before, stick the slow cooker insert in the refrigerator, and then pull it out and get it going in the morning. There aren't that many vegetarian slow cooker cookbooks out there, and the others I've found have been duds, but this one is a keeper! ... Read more

Love the binding on this book.Very good recipes.Ingredients you usually have on hand. Will suggest it to friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars Busy People should eat better than this!
I own a lot of cookbooks and have honestly never purchased a more ridiculous book. Seven ingredients or less, yes - it's easy when you're using canned soup, prepared chili or bottled marinade. The recipes feature a lot of processed ingredients too like non-dairy creamer for potato chowder. And I don't need a slow cooker to make tea - 8 teabags, water, mint extract and splenda - 2 hours in the old slow cooker and voila, you have something that should take ten minutes to make. Convenient - maybe, Easy - yes, Delicious, no way.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Cookbook Is Great!!!!!
First of all, if you purchase the book, read the story at the beginning of the cookbook. Dawn Hall, the author, put together her cookbooks to help support her family when her husband had Cancer and then passed away. Now, other families who have a family member with cancer or other organizations can use her cookbook's to sell and raise money for their charitable organization's.Her family's story is an incredibly inspirational one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easydelicious dishes but watch out for butter and canned ingredients!
It is a great cookbook, recipes are easy to put together and they turn up well. But be warned, the author uses butter a lot in her recipes and if you like your health, substitute butter with olive oil as we do and the end results will be just as delicious. Use common sense, when following any recipe, put your heart and your family's health first. The cookbook authors may be experts in cooking, but they may not necessarily be up to date with nutrition science or medical developments!

5-0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Transforming
I never thought I would consider a cook book to be transforming, but that has been my experience with The Slow Mediterranean Kitchen. It has changed my cooking habits more than any cookbook I own (some 40 - 50 at this point, and still growing).
1-0 out of 5 stars Typos, major steps left out, dead ends.
My wife and I are on our third recipe. We are experienced amatures, so we knew a few instructions were being left out here and there, but, what do you do with the ingredients that are never brought back into the dish. The ideas are great and I'm sure dinner at the authors home would be quite thrilling, but forget this book if you want to prepare food without a lot of guess work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never before have I been so drawn to write a review..
In a word, this book is astounding!I had a dinner party last week, and started searching for recipes for some comfort food.I decided upon the 'fall apart lambshanks' as the main course. From there, I went through other cooks for other courses, and kept comming back to this one.All in all I chose three recipes to make from this book outta the four dishes I prepared.Pretty risky considering I hadnt cooked anything from this book yet.I chose the aforementined shanks, slow braised leeks, and the avocado sardine toasts as an appetizer.Everything turned out wonderfully, and even surprised me.The sardine toasts, while simple, were very very good. (basically sardines, thinly sliced avocado, scallions, and a vinnagrette dressing on toast). The leeks were absolutely fabulous.. probably my favorite thing.. and will defintaley be what I bring to my next dinner party if I am assigned to bring a vegetable. .. They are firm/crisp on the outside, while the insides just melt in your mouth. They are also very attractive on the plate. The fall apart lamb shanks did just that.. fell right off the bone.. while the recipe was not that complicated, when she says slow cooking she means it.This were a two day endeavor. The night before you marinate them, and then the proceed to cook the next day for about 6 hours.. with about 30 mins to brown them before, and 30/45 mins after you take them outta the oven after to preparea sauce and cook them in the sauce. My only qualm with any of the recipes is for the sauce for the lambshank... It said to blanch then toast the almonds for the sauce. . but didnt say to peel them or not.I assumed that since I blanched them, the next step was to peel them so I did... but to know for sure would have been nice. The end results of the recipes I made were so good though.. anyone who loves comfort food, and to have something in the oven all day cooking slowly, making their house smell like something wonderous is cooking in the oven, then you owe it to yourself to get this book. Thanks Paula! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information, great little book on juicing
I'd never heard of Jay Kordich, but from his bio in the book he's REALLY dedicated to the concept of juicing -- a pioneer, really. His enthusiasm is welcome, he knows what he's talking about and virtually every recipe is worth making! I bought a Breville juicer from amazon.com and I wish this book had shipped with it!
4-0 out of 5 stars It's a good book...
I definitely think it's a good book if you're just starting out.In the back it gives you a lot of info about the different vitamins and minerals what fruit/vegetable has it and how it helps your body.I actually ordered this book for someone else, and they were so grateful.Bottom line is it's not a waste of money.Good Luck everyone!

This book covers storage and selections of fruits and vegetables quite well, also has easy receips.Howeveer it is a bit redundant and could be reduced and still cover all of the information. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without this book
This is the greatest slow cooker recipe book I've ever bought, and I've bought quite a few.I have 3 young children and a business so my time is valuable.I just "set it and forget it." The recipes are so easy to prepare. Most with ingredients you find in most kitchens.I ate over my brothers house and a friends house and found 1 thing in common.Great food. The recipes were both from the same cookbook.Thats when I knew I had to have it.We eat from this cookbook at least 2 times a week.

5-0 out of 5 stars A timesaver for busy people
After years of a stored crockpot, I updated mine and have begun using it, once again.I've made a half dozen of the recipes in the Fix-It and Forget-It Recipes for Entertaining. My family enjoys them and my friends enjoy the "comfort" of homecooking.Being busy outside the home doesn't mean making dinner plans with friends a rare event. With the ease of preparing quick, easy meals with convenient ingredients, I'm delighted with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fix it-----You won't forget it!
I love this book, even more than the origianl Fix It and Forget It.The recipes are very easy to put together, and are family friendly.I can put these meals together in the morning before I leave for work and have a good meal ready when I get home.I have used some of these recipes to take to pot-lucks or when having family over.Although they do not make a grand, 12 course meal, thess recipes are perfectly acceptable for friends and family. As a homeschooling mom with three kids and a 30-hour-a-week job, this book has been a lifesaver! It keeps my husband from making pbj every night that I work!Well worth it! ... Editorial Review

There's a world of grilled food out there, and Steven Raichlen seems to have wandered through all of it the State Department deemed "safe." No Afghanistan, for instance. No Iraq. But not to worry. Any decent conflict produces refugees, and nothing travels quite so easily as your own way with food. So Raichlen availed himself of restaurant cooks in this country where and when he had to--all to get right down to the meat of it.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For browsing and cooking
For me, cookbooks have two functions. The first is to act as a spur to the imagination. A properly provocative cookbook would be one you could browse through with the same pleasure that you might take in reading an adventure novel. You get to have the excitement without the danger (or the calories). As an added benefit, you increase the store of ideas from which you put together your own cooking. Seen in this light, a book that offers

This book provides an in depth process for barbecuing in the great outdoors.Steve Raichlen gives you the how to's and a history of barbecuing throughout the world. He uses a classic presentation to discuss the many fine receipes. He also goes into a brief summary of the history of each of the fine dishes.I would highly recommend this book

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I was looking for
I was looking for a book about BBQ and grilling. What I got was a book of recipes. Not all that bad of a thing, but was looking for more wisdom from the apparent king of BBQ. While gas grilling is pretty straight forward for most cooks, I recently purchased a charcoal smoker/grill and sought info on this whole new area of backyard cuisine.
