2-0 out of 5 stars I'm the dummy for using this book!
I was so totally disappointed with the recipes included in the book. I have to admit that I tried only 3 but each did not go over with me or the rest of my family. I decided to quit while I was ahead. Other information included in the book is excellent but do not get this book for the recipes alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars good info
the information in this book is nice to have in plain talk for those of us who did not grow up with a pressure cooker in the house

5-0 out of 5 stars Pressure Cooker For Dummies
I received a pressure cooker for Christmas and had no idea of what to do with it, Iactually had a fear of using it, but with the detailed information that Cooking for dummies gave put all my fears to rest. I would highly recommend it to anyone, not just to overcome their fear but there are good tips and excellent recipes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lobel's Guide to Meat
This is a goldmine for explaining the intricacies of meat5-0 out of 5 stars Such a unique grilling book
The Lobels' have introduced a very nice and unique cookbook with the release of this one.I own several other grilling cookbooks, and there are many good ones out there. This one is my absolute favorite because therecipes are a little more than your basic grilled steak or hamburger. Trythe grilled filet mignon with gorgonzola-scallion compound butter and thesirloin steak with rosemary brushed potatoes and red peppers.Don't forgetto try the barbeque sauce. It's fantastic. The book's contents includetips on grilling, burgers, beef and veal, lamb and pork, poultry, game andgame birds, and sauces, salsas, maranades, rubs and other condiments. There are no fish recipes so if you are looking for that specifically, findanother cookbook. If everything else sounds good to you, you will enjoythis inovative book by the Lobels'.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is the best source for grilling meat.
Finally!A book that really tells us everything we need and want to know about grilling meat. As author of 3 cookbooks on grilling, including "Marinades, the Secret of Great Grilling", I can tell you that Iam buying this book for everyone I know who grills meat - and that is justabout everyone I know. It's so well organized that I can find informationat a glance. The recipes are readable, do-able, and taste terrific. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars He's outdone himself this time
Paul has outdone himself this time. This is the best BBQ "how to" in print.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those who like BBQ.
I love to cook, especially out in my backyard with the smoker. If this is you, then you will want this book. It has a plethora of recipes that will make you the envy of your neighborhood. It also explains the differences in slow smoking and grilling. You cannot go wrong in buying this book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Barbecue Education
I bought this book under unusual circumstances. The day before I bought it, I complained to my sister I have way more recipes from cook books and newspaper clippings that I could ever possibly make. And I'm trying to eliminate more meat from my diet.So with a glut of recipes and a desire to eat less meat, it would only make sense for me to buy a book with 575 recipies devoted to grilling and slow smoking of dead animals. But I'm really glad I did!

2-0 out of 5 stars An Outdated Guide for Today's Raclette Crowd
I will agree with the other reviewers who state that the book leaves a bit to be desired in introducing one to the world of raclette; I must insist, however, that contrary to what one of our reviewers says, the word "raclette" here within the border Alpine states(Germany, Switzerland), can also refer to the cooking practice of using a 'raclette' grill to prepare a tableside meal with raclette cheese and variousother ingredients, much in the way that the word "barbeque" can describe a way of cooking in the US, but can additionally be used to describe a particular ingredient or finished meal as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Raclette RipOff
Please be aware that this book by Claudia Schmidt has been published with at least three different titles and covers. If you have a raclette book by this woman, it's probably this one. I would rate it "0" but 1 is the lowest allowed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Raclette is first and foremost a cheese....
I do not own the book but I just looked at the first few pages. I was mostly interested in the list of cheeses the author recommended. To my surprise the original cheese is not listed: Raclette. "Raclette" is not a grill or even a technique to cook with cheese, IT IS A CHEESE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cookbook and not just for steaming
Not only is this the best steaming cookbook I've read but it is the best cookbook I've read and most important, used....and I use one or another of the recipes from this book almost every dinner (for five years now). The cabbage with bacon sauce is as simple as it is tasty. The recipe for steamed carrots with cilantro is brilliant. I, formerly never known as much of a cook, now have a reputation as a gourmet with some of my friends who have tasted these recipes. This cookbook has made cooking so much fun!....and easy too! I cannot recommend this book eneogh. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I have been cooking "from scratch" for more than 30 years and own more than 50 cookbooks, including most of the great classics. Favorite cookbook authors I return to again and agin include Julia Child, Craig Claiborn, Christopher Kimball, Diana Kennedy, Ruth Reichl, Irene Kuo, Paul Prudhomme and Irma Rombauer (& her descendents). I love ethnic food, gourmet food and great American regional home cooking. The best cookbooks provide detailed techniques and enough information so a confident cook can develop variationsbased on personal taste and available ingredients. I was dissappointed to find that this book fails in that regard. I purchased it hoping it would be like Barbara Kafka's Microwave Gourmet (still the best on its subject), laying out what this kitchen utensil is best suited for and honestly explaining what it can and cannot do well. Instead, the author seems to believe the pressure cooker should be able to tackle any task. For example, she includes several recipes for items like seafood that are best cooked quickly, but leaves out foods that benefit from long, slow cooking, like soups, sauces and stews. There are only two barebones recipes for stock, one for beef stew (Bouef Bourgiugnon), and a few for odd soups and sauces (like a "blonde onion soup" but no French Onion Soup, a lentil soup but no other legume soups, a Bolognese sauce that dumps raw beef and tomatoes in all at once in violation of all principals I have learned), and several recipes for things like custard and cheesecake. There are unusual, tasty recipes in here, and excellent directions on timing, but I agree with another reviewer who warns that her temperature recommendations are way too high.

3-0 out of 5 stars I guess I don't like gourmet
To be honest, I didn't try a single recipe from this book.None of them sounded appealing enough or easy enough to bother. There were no cooking timetables that would allow me to adapt recipes I've made conventionally as I've seen in other pressure cooker cookbooks.I am glad this book was available at my public library and I was able to look over the book before I purchased it.If you're the sort of person who likes, or likes to experiment with, unusual flavor combinations and you love having the recipes very specific, this may be a good choice for you.I'll stick with the pressure cookbooks by Lorna Sass for now.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware of some recipes
I wonder if Ms. Wise realy cooked and tried out all these recipes?

5-0 out of 5 stars Another "For Dummies" Winner
I needed the info and once again "For Dummies" gave me that and more.If you're interested in this subject, "For Dummies" has got you covered!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to cast iron
This is a very good introduction to cooking with cast iron. The first couple of chapters give you the basics of using cast iron (seasoning, how and what to buy, caring for and using, etc.). The second part of the book has all the recipes with chapters on meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, breads/cornbreads, desserts, and non-traditional dishes. There is also a chapter on using an outdoor dutch oven and some recipes to go along with that.

3-0 out of 5 stars BAD puns and plenty of them.
I have a feeling the book could have been 500 pages long if they'd come up with more bad puns. A lot of the combinations are obvious, although the book is attractive and the cover photo is beautiful and it's helpful for beginners. The recipes calling for a couple tablespoons of superfine (baker's) sugar are bizarre -- I definitely didn't buy a juicer to consume refined sugar!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Follow-Easy to Use!
I found this book very helpful after I was given a food processor for as a gift~and did not really know all the neat things it did! Great, easy to follow recipes as well as useful tips!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good information, but not a lot to it
I got this book when I got my new food processor. While the recipes are great (especially the whole wheat bread), there are many other cookbooks out there that have better ones.I feel like a lot of the steps in the recipes could be done more quickly by hand. For example, mincing one clove of garlic in a food processor is pretty pointless.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly wonderful!
Although I still have my original Cuisinart, and don't use it very much (although it is indispensable for some things), even *I* find this cookbook indispensable! The recipes are well-tested and unfailingly delicious ... I don't think you can go wrong with a Norene Gilletz recipe. And the directions are crystal clear, showing how to use your food processor in the best possible way.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
We have made many of the breads in this book, and they are wonderful. We have only had minor problems with one or two recipes, and they were easily fixed using the trouble shooting section. It has a nice variety of types of breads, so you can make a little bit of everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dig out and dust off that bread machine
This book is absolutely fantastic.I have only had it for a month, and have already tested at least a dozen recipes, each better than the last. The recipe for Jim's Cinnamon Rolls alone is worth the price of the book, but we've literally loved every recipe we've tried.Haven't bought a loaf of bread since this book arrived in my mailbox, and I'm constantly finding an excuse to make yet another loaf.I promise you will not be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the book that came with the machine
I found this book is a pleasure to read. It has a super introduction to bread machines and some awesome tips that I didn't know about that have made my bread making a breeze. I recommend this book for the novice as well as the old pro - the recipes are well tested, and I haven't had a flop among the many I've tried. I love the notes above each recipe that tempt you to try it. The San Francisco sourdough recipe/starter is the best! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for a slow-cooker beginner like me!
I liked the fact that this book explains so much about slow-cooker cooking, in addition to the yummy-sounding recipes. I haven't tried any yet, though, so I can't comment on the recipes themselves...

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book BEFORE you buy the slow cooker
I'm going to jump the gun and review this book before I've cooked any of the recipes.I haven't bought the slow cooker yet.I mainly chose this book to educate myself on what to look for when shopping for a slow cooker. I've never owned one before and I didn't want to buy one and then realize which features I should have looked for.How many appliances have I bought that I wish I hadn't, only because I didn't know enough about how the appliance functions. Not going to make that mistake again so this time I'm starting with the cookbook first.I think it's going to pay for itself even if I don't like the recipes (which I'm sure I will once I try them).Information contained in this book still applies to slow cookers sold today, I've been shopping for them this week. What has changed is that the quality of slow cookers has declined, reviews show you that, all the more reason to purchase this book to help you sort out the wheat from the chaff.

I love this cookbook. It gives the reader all sorts of helpful information on cooking with a slow cooker, along with many excellent recipes. Much better than some of the fancier slow cooker cookbooks, with recipes that take too much time. After all, I bought my slow cooker to SAVE time! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A cheese addict's bible
The recipes are imaginative, the directions are clear, the results are sublime. My only question is, I look at her photograph and ask, how can the author look so slender?!

4-0 out of 5 stars Instruction manual NOT!
If you're looking for a guide to using your appliance, you're likely best to contact the appliance's manufacturer and get the proper user's manual for it. They don't all operate the same.
2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
Because I appreciate reviewers who take the time to supply feedback to Amazon for other purchasers, I decided to let everyone know that this book is worthless. It is basically recipes. I don't need recipes. What I had hoped for was a "how to" on using my new convection oven. If that is what you are looking for, don't waste your money on this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's GREAT for the FIRST-TIME convection oven user.
This cookbook includes great convection oven information and tips (plus some basics that cookbooks typically have, but that other convection oven cookbooks do not have).Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More than just pot roast and chili...
I think that whether a person likes this book will depend some on his/her expectations when beginning to use it, and upon his/her experience w/ other cookbooks for slow-cookers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy cooking for a working mom
Lots of recipe variety, minimum effort. Delicious meat and vegetarian options. I leave the slow cooker on while sleeping at night or during the day while I am at work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and fun!
One of the things I loved about this book was that you didn't have to spend a lot of extra money on spices that you'll use one time. The author was brilliant to incorporate ready-made items that you can use for a recipe.. then use the remainder for something else. The book itself is laid out well which makes it easy to read. The only drawback would the spiral plastic spine. Those never do last very long without them coming partially undone. ... Read more
