5-0 out of 5 stars Great & easy recipes
It's George! It gotta be good. This book provides excellent yet simple recipes that you will use over and over!Good hearty fare!

4-0 out of 5 stars G. Foreman's book, "Indoor Grilling Made Easy"
The reciepes are great! What I like the most is the chart that estimates cooking time for all types of grilling items.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun Recipes...But Not Really Healthy
The recepes are really nice and creative, but if you're trying to eat healthier--this is a book to skip. Just because a recipe is full of grilled veggies, the "health" benefits lessen when you dump enough olive oil, cheeses, etc on them to increase the fat content to a whopping 25-35 grams per serving--of which a lion's share of these recepes sport.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - the best of the fondue cookbooks
I am an avid chef, and I LOVE fondue.I researched LOTS of fondue cookbooks, and this one has fantastic recipes.I think the reason I particularly love it is because we like to make fondue in a more healthful style (i.e., not cooking meat in boiling oil) and this book has an entire chapter just on fantastic broth recipes. In the end, if you cook shrimp, lamb, and flank steak in chicken broth, red wine, mushrooms, and garlic, you have yourself a very healthy meal! You'll love this book...it also gives GREAT fondue cooking tips in the whole first section.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good juicing book.
This book is not too bad figure in it came out in 1989 and much of the info is still up to date. In this book though it gives you the problem and then which vegetables are good for this problem for example:Blood pressure: beet, beet green, cabbage sprout, cucumber, spinach, wheatgrass. Get the picture. It also has a section on fasting, designing a juice program and buying a juicer. It also got some recipes it does not tell you what there for. Like Juiceman Jay's book will tell you if your fatigued try such and such a juice. In this book you got to figure it out yourself. But like I said for coming out in 1989 its gotta a lot of info.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best all-round book on juicing!
This book is my juicing bible. It contains an easy reference for which fruits and vegetables are helpful for various nutritional needs as well as a "conditions" section with recommendations for using various juice combinations to assist the body to work most efficiently. Also includes a nice selection of recipes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!!
The variety of juices specific for each disease is what I like best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Book--and Still Eat Meat, etc; great recipes, nutritional info
Hey--I am not a vegetarian, but sure appreciated this book for its multiple qualities and useful info:
1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
I have a couple of problems with this book.First of all, I can not stand books relating to health that push a vegetarian agenda. Now I know that the conventional meat packing industry is detrimental to the earth and cruel to the animals, but the conventional vegetable industry is just as detrimental to the earth and as cruel to plants.Plus, Michael Murray emphasizes using organic vegetables.Organic vegetables are 100% dependent on animals, because organic farms can not use synthetic fertilizers, thus they rely on tons and tons of animal manure. And if you own a working farm, which Michael does not, it is impossible to keep animals just for their manure. If you want to stay in business they better be making money for you in the form of animal products such as meat, yogurt, eggs, milk, butter, etc.If everyone became a vegetarian, like michael promotes, he would have a hard time finding his organic vegetables.Plus, many animal products that are raised correctly in accordance with the laws of nature, can be very beneficial to one's health, so why not have the best of both worlds. And I've heard the argument that if we used all that land that animals use to grow plant food, we could feed the world. We already have enough food in the world for 8 billion people. It's a matter of poverty, not needing space to grow food. And less meat farms mean less farms in general, which translate to housing developments and strip malls.Just as bad for the land and you. Also, some of Michael's other health claims are completely unfounded. He says one should cut back or eliminate salt from one's diet. This is absolutely untrue. There are certainly degrees of quality in salt, and celtic sea salt is the best, but salt plays a very important rule in a healthy diet. Why?Because it aids and promotes digestion, therefore helping your body use more vitamins and minerals from the food you eat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good stuff in here!
I bought this book because I absolutely love focaccia, but am forever spoiled by the ease of the bread machine. This book brings the two together beautifully!I made the Pesto Focaccia first, because I make myown pesto every summer and freeze it, and this was a great way to make useof it.It turned out really well, and it feels good to hear "Oh mygosh, this is great!" when you try something new!I can't wait to trysome of the stuffed pizza recipes, they sound wonderful. The recipes arewell written, instructions are clear, and there are a couple of veryhelpful sections in the beginning that go over equipment, ingredients and"Secrets for Success".There are also lots of hints throughoutthe book, in fact, there is one after almost every recipe.I also likedthe fact that the book is spiral bound, yet hardcover. It lays flat foreasy reference, which I found convenient. The only drawback is the lack ofpictures.I am a sucker for a cookbook with LOTS of pictures, and I reallymissed them in this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference and idea book
The first few chapters of this book are dedicated to the benefits of juicing, how to juice individual fruits and vegetables and what their specific benefits and nutrional information is and gives suggestions based on lifestyle needs. The second section of this book is filled with recipes for juicing. These juices cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, entertaining for guests and dessert. I was very surprised that I enjoyed as many of the combinations as I did. Who knew that red pepper juice would be almost sweet enough for dessert?
4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for beginners.
This book contains several delicious recipes; the "Tomato Salsa Drink" gets an A+. Its greatest strength are the recipes for the pulp, the fiber remnants. Each recipe lists the vitamins found in each drink, as well as the health benefits. The Index is lacking and could be more specific. If you're looking for a recipe employing a specific fruit or vegetable, not ALL the recipes using that item are listed. Still, it is a useful book, expecially for one 'new' to juicing. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There is joy in juicing but not here!
Mr. Null is renowned for being an expert in his field. His expertise and insights are often invaluable. However, in his book, "The Joy of Juicing" his experience appears to be overshadowed by generalities and a lack of research. For example, in the opening sentences, Mr. Null recommends that readers purchase a centrifugal juicer despite the fact that there is plenty of research showing that centrifugal juicers are not the best choice when compared to single gear and twin gear juicers. In addition, there is scientific research showing that centrifugal juicers create static electricity during the juicing process that kills vital enzymes and nutrients. Centrifugal juicers are also not the best choice for many fibrous types of greens since overheating can easily occur.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious recipes!
I see that some of the other reviewers have completely missed the mark.Gary Null has dozens of other books teaching you step by step how to be healthy and tons of advice for specific illnesses, but that information is not available in this book. Why?There is a simple reason for that. This is a COOKBOOK!!It starts out with juice and shake recipes and then it continues with other recipes using your juicer. There is a section for breakfast foods, soups, salads, dressings, sauces, dips and spreads, main dishes and desserts. Most of the recipes I have tried so far have been incredibly delicious.I said most because I did not like the Carob Fruit Bars, they were too sweet for my taste and too moist, as for the Almond Butter Cookies, the batter was too dry and grainy and did not form into dough but the taste was good, it just needed more liquid. As for the great tasting recipes, let me start with my mom's favorite, the Fruit and Nut Cookies ... she can't believe they are made without sugar, dairy or eggs! The dates were difficult to use at first, but now I chop them in tiny little pieces and they're a lot easier to use. The Date Fudge Brownies taste great with the Cocoa Coconut Frosting and Heavenly Roasted Nuts and because I'm Vegan, I used maple syrup in the recipes instead of honey with excellent results. The Carrot Walnut Cake is out of this world. The Classic Vegetable Stock is the best I've ever made as well as the Spicy Texas Chilly and Lentil Burgers, and I could go on and on and on!Oh, did I mention the Creamsicle and Mango Fruit Pops?Yum!!As for my non-vegetarian friends and family, I have cooked the Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce and the Swordfish with Basil Oil and have been subject to rave reviews!!I have to admit that I've used this little recipe book more than any other recipe book in my collection. The ingredients can be easily found in any regular supermarket and for vegans, certain ingredients can be easily converted with wonderful results, except for the fish of course, but then again, most of us have to cook for other people in our lives who are not vegetarian so that works out perfectly. 5-0 out of 5 stars Here's To Your Health!
I've been a fan of Gary Null for a long time - from his PBS specials, radio shows, books, etc. -- I always find him to be the #1 source of cutting edge natural health information.Gary is big on juicing and with good reason as the health benefits are tremendous.I picked up this book because I needed something to push me to begin juicing and to have a bunch of recipes to keep it interesting. --- This book has more than helped in both areas,I keep it right next to my juicer in the kitchen and I never get bored with all the tasty juices I make!! There's also some other juice recipes for soups and other things that are great as well. An invaluable book!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

There was a time in America (the dark ages of the 1960s andearly 1970s) when fondue was synonymous with cubes of white breaddipped in melted Velveeta. After a brief craze, fondue went the way oflava lamps, shag carpeting, and leisure suits, its pot and skewersretired to the back of a high kitchen cupboard where they're forgottenuntil the next garage sale. Now, however, fondue is making a comeback,and--like Barbie--it's gotten a whole new look. In Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best...
Some of the recipes just don't seem too appetizing.......liked "The 125 Best Fondue Recipes" better!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fondue for Grownups!
This book is chock full of excellent recipes that would be a hit with any grown-up dinner party. If you are going to have a get-together with friends and are looking for recipes that not only look and taste good but will also be impressive, this is the book for you.I really just wanted a fondue book with tried and true recipes that would appeal to my family. There are a few simple recipes in the book, but most of them have names like Italian Fontina and Porcini Fondue, Welsh Cheddar and Bacon Rabbit Fondue, Lobster Newburg Fondue, Smoked Salmon, Capers and Triple Creme Fondue, you see the trend. So if you are having an adult dinner party with friends and want to have something that sounds trendy or exotic, then this book is the one for you. If you want some simple family-type recipes, I would suggest looking for something different.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent food history lesson and delicious recipes
This is my first exposure to Rick Rodgers' writing and I am already looking to buy more of his cookbooks. He is thorough in his explanations of what equipment, chocolate, cheese, etc. to buy without being wordy or condescending. Each recipe comes with a paragraph lesson of its origin (e.g. Swiss, French, Italian) and/or American fondue versions and/or to whom the recipe would appeal. This book has such a variety of recipes that both the more and less adventurous eaters in your dinner party will be gastronomically satisfied. For a real Swiss experience, I recommend the Classic Swiss Three-Cheese Fondue and the Classic Chocolate Fondue.Recipes I'll be trying at my next fondue party are: Italian Fontina and Porcini Fondue, French Gruyere and Onion Fondue, and the Original Toblerone Fondue. This book offers years of interesting entertaining.Rick Rodgers' recipes and dipping suggestions can be trusted to provide a superior dining experience. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for me...
I purchased this book. I don't recommend it. The recipes include ingredients that are difficult to find and expensive if you do find them. I gave my copy to a culinary arts student. She also finds it to be unrealistic for home cooks. I wasted my money on the book. I'm not willing to waste more on ingredients. Ms Brody needs to provide substitutes for the expensive ingredients she sells.

3-0 out of 5 stars Every Recipe took too long before you could bake.
Every recipe seemed like you always needed to refrigerate your dough for a very long time before you could actually bake, then enjoy. A lot of the recipes called for specialty items that you just can't go to the localgrocery and buy. Laura sells these items on her own out of a magazine.Iam thinking of ordering some just so that I can try these recipes but theprices are a bit high.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Potful of Recipes cookbook
This is an excellent cookbook! Everything I have made so far, my husband loves! JoAnna Lund has created another winner!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you lend it out, you won't get it back!Love it!
This is a great cook book and I consider it in my top 3 of my collection of many!I've taken this cook book camping with us and found delicious "no hassle" recipes to put in the crock pot and forget until it's time to eat!My all time favorite recipe out of this book has to be "Raspberry Dessert Strata," not to give away the recipe, but it's like bread pudding with melted chocolate chunks, pockets of vanilla pudding, and raspberries. There are lots of easy recipes in this book, like Sloppy Joes and Southwest Chicken Stew.I bought this book 3 years ago and lent it to a good friend but it's been passed around my entire church and is sitting in someone's cupboard much against my efforts to track it down.I liked it so much I bought a replacement copy.I've learned to lend out cook books I don't use much, but never again will I let go of my "Potful of Recipes" cookbook. I highly recommend this cook book and have enjoyed many great recipes from it! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I wish there were more photos
I love using my toaster oven to make things, and was extremely excited about this book. But I'm a visual person and it's hard to be motivated to try out these recipes because most of them do not have photos. So if you like to see what you're about to make, I don't recommend this cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars long overdue
As an empty nester and avid cook, this book is perfect.Very tasty recipes without making huge quantities. The author has done her research and deserves credit for filling a rare niche

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bread Machine Cookbook
I found many new very good recipes to try.Recipes clearly written.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book a great investmentfor beginner OR advanced user.
I ordered this book the same time I ordered the Chefmate bread machine, & am very glad I did.The recipes are super - very different & varied - and the baking & ingredient hints are VERY handy.Every recipe I used came out perfect, & we now have bread at almost every meal. The pumpernickle was great for lunch sandwiches, the Stollen unbeatable for breakfast toasted, & the cheese & onion, outstanding! Every bread machine user ought to have this book. Thanks,Donna German. (p.s.Can't wait to try my new pasta machine & her pasta book)Onita

5-0 out of 5 stars The best in a great line of bread machine books
I've had this book (as well as the four previous books in this series) for over three years, and I still use it almost daily.I highly recommend the Potato Bread and the Dill Onion Bread.Yummmmmmmmy! As with all her otherbooks, German includes basic bread machine instruction, LOTS of greathints, trouble shooting and even instructions (and great recipes) formaking rolls and pizza using the dough cycle. These are the only breadmachine cookbooks I've ever needed, and I think they are absolutely greatbuys.Try it, you won't be sorry! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars making use of my new smoker
The book in conjunction with the directions for my new smoker was very useful as it contains numerous recipes along with short shorties on the history of smoking

2-0 out of 5 stars Recipes are inaccurate
First as another reviewer stated the salt to sugar ratios are off. Secondly the book tells you to smoke a brisket at 350 for about 1 hour per pound.I'm not an expert at smoking by any stretch of the imagination, but I know that brisket needs to be smoked low and slow, otherwise tough brisket and a ruined meal.I also have a problem with adding liquid smoke to recipes as a couple in this book have, it seems to have a chemical aftertaste. The game recipes are scant with only one for venison.I do like the tables in the back for brining and smoking times. If you want a book that gives a little information on everything with some interesting recipes go ahead and buy it.If you want a book that teaches you the art of smoking this one isn't for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent variety of smoke cooking recipes.
A complete and interesting compendium of recipes and smoke cookingmethods. The advanced smoke cooker will enjoy this book and find some newideas within. The section on sausages and pemican, two of the advancedsmoke cooking skills, are expecially helpful. The beginer may bedisapointed in the results of applying the recipes due to one majoroversight.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Flavors!!
We have been plank cooking salmon for years. The Haugen's book on plank cooking has opened up a new world for us.WE have used recipes from every chapter both on the grill and in the oven and they are all wonderful! The easy to follow instructions and recipes will make it easy for anyone to become an expert at plank cooking!

5-0 out of 5 stars An introduction to a Pacific Northwest Tradition
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and have always enjoyed the flavor of salmon cooked over alder. After some friends treated us to alder "planked" salmon on a camping trip, we searched Amazon and discovered this book. We've tried a number of the basic recipes with great success.Perhaps more significantly, those recipes have encouraged me to experiment with a variety of woods for some of my more "traditional" recipes, every time with great success.(For example, spareribs, a Texas-style dry rub, and either an alder or hickory plank make a fantastic taste combination.)The recipes include a wide range of spice and flavor combinations, from simple to what I would call "nouveau cuisine," which should meet most people's taste preferences. And the range of possible combinations, based on wood types, additional spices, or flavors in the soaking process, leaves room for almost limitless experimentation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Scott & Tiffany Haugen
In response to Cook Kazoo, we were surprised with the harsh review.Several thousand of our books have been sold and this response was the first negative one we or our publisher have received. The recipes in Plank Cooking were all kitchen testedmultiple times. We had at least 5 taste-testers per recipe and many of the recipes were cooked by other people prior to being published. There are however, things that can go wrong in plank cooking if instructions are not followed. To insure plank cooking success only use non-treated, non-resinous woods such as alder, cedar, oak, maple, hickory, apple or cherry. There are many great cooking planks on the market today.Planks need to be soaked prior to cooking to not only prolong their life but to impart moisture into the food.Planks on the grill need to be closely monitored to prevent excessive flare ups and to control the amount of smoke desired. Finally, good quality ingredients must be used to produce a high quality meal.If you haven't tried cooking on a plank, give it a try, the possibilities are endless! ...
