5-0 out of 5 stars I love this cookbook!
I've been using this cookbook for year's and love it.I haven't found the difficulties other readers indicated. Some recipes I like more than others, but overall it is hands-down my favorite slow cooker cookbook.
3-0 out of 5 stars If you can adapt recipes, this this book can work for you.
I love using my crockpot, but have had a difficult time finding good recipes that don't call for a can of creamed soup or other highly processed ingredients.I like this book pretty well for reasonably healthy and varied meals, but I have definitely had mixed results. With a little bit of adaptation, I have been able to make most of what I tried work.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
The recipes sound great, but I tried two and they were both awful. The blend of flavors and consistency were both lacking.Word of advice:try the recipes before using them for guests. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Instant Favorites from Langer (again)!
Of all our bread machine books, Langer's has provided more favorites than any other. Who'd have thought that semolina flour would make such great bread --no one could resist the sesame-semolina bread. A review here has been delayed for too long because each bread I've tried has been an instant favorite leaving little motivation for trying more recipes. 5-0 out of 5 stars If you know your bread machine well, this book's a gem
I signed out a copy of this book at my local library, and I regretted taking it back! I can't wait to receive my own copy. Since manufactured breads (all of them) include High Fructose Corn Syrup (which the body stores immediately as fat), my husband and I have decided to put our bread machine to work, and we have made dozen of whole grain loaves that rivel the very best store-bought! Mr. Langer's book opened up yet another chapter for me, providing outstanding recipes that are, granted, experimental, but definitely tastey and well-tested--from breads to biscottis to cakes. Each and every recipe I tried from this book worked beautifully. 3-0 out of 5 stars Is it me, my bread machine or this book?
Maybe it's me, maybe it's my bread machine, or maybe it's this book, but I've yet to produce a bread that is good enough to repeat.Although I still haven't given up all hopes for the recipes in this book, I'm notimpressed and I find myself using my other bread machine books first. Sometimes I couldn't be bothered to read through the stories, lengthydescriptions and repetitive instructions just to get to the actual recipe.I prefer simplicity and easy to read recipes, especially when I bake mybreads first thing in the morning. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A nice addition to one's library of cookbooks...
This is a nice, useful book. It's short, with only sixty pages, but it does manage to pack a fair amount of info in there, and include some very nice fondue recipes (how many fondue recipes are out there, anyway?) It focuses more on dinner, rather than dessert fondues, but has a wide variety of styles, so there should be a recipe for every taste here. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Juicing for Health
I really enjoyed this book a lot.It has a lot of very helpful information regarding the benefits of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.I keep it in my kitchen cabinet as a quick reminder of what each fruit or veggie is doing for my body as I juice it.I also use it when talking to others about the benefits of juicing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy this Book for the Number of Recipies
Frankly, this book was kind of a disappointment.I bought it thinking it would have a lot of interesting recipes in it."Over 200 recipes" is claimed in the cover. But many of these combinations I could have thought up myself and they are very simple. The soups, smothies, and sorbet sections are very short with few recipes. Also, the English terminology/spellings can be annoying.Nutritional breakdown of every recipe would be helpful, but it is just given for the fruits and vegetables.I am sure the nutrition changes somewhat when you juice something. The color pictures are also not even in the same section as the recipe, which is also annoying. However, the quantities given for the amount of fruits/veggies you need to make the juices will be helpful. It also gives some basic information on each fruit/vegetable and what they are touted for. This is not a terrible book, but just not what I expected. If you want simple recipes and have no creativity, this may be the book for you.If you are looking for in-depth information and better recipes, this is not what you are looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars good basic juicing book
Some basic juicing information is given along with lots of recipes. But some of the information on juicing is taken straight from Jay Juiceman's book, right down to a few unsited direct quotes. The part that bothers meis that she fails to give him any credit anywhere in the book, not even arecommended reading list. So if it's more juice recipes you're after, getthis book, if it's more detailed information on juicing, get the book shequietly used as a source _The Juiceman's Power of Juicing_ by Jay Kordich. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Health Food Books I Own!!!!
My husband and I have been trying to switch from our unhealthy, sugar-laden, fast-food ridden eating habits to a more organic, whole-food way of eating for a few years now, but it is not an easy thing to do. One of the hardest parts for us was eating 5-8 servings of fruits and veggies everyday, especially when we were trying not to add any processed food to the mix.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for Juicer users. Otherwise, not the best!
`The Smoothies Bible' by Pat Crocker and `The Ultimate Smoothies Book' by Cherie Calbom both profess to be a complete guide to making all sorts of smoothies. In many ways, both are better than the book, `Smoothies for Life' by Daniella Chace and Maureen B. Keane which I reviewed recently. All three focus on making smoothies for good health, but `Smoothies for Life' does little else and depends heavily on ingredients available only in some health food stores.
3-0 out of 5 stars average book for the title
I agree with the other reviewer. There are alot of recipes with stuff I haven't even heard of.I have tried a couple of these with what ingredients I could find and it wasn't that bad or great either,Maybe tolerable would be the word.I would say if you can find the ingredients good but the book is average. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mo' sauces = mo' betta
This is a great cook book.I've had it for years, and made about everything in it, and then varied everything in it (my wife and I no longer eat meat). The best part is all the sauces -- more often than not I now go to this book for a sauce for some other stir fry I'm making. The other reviewer's comment about needing really high heat is sort of true, but my electric stove and flat bottom wok do ok.Not quite flash cooked, but close enough to be very very very yummy!Worth your time, if you're interested in making great food in the wok.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Cookbook!
I own three of the "Hot" series and everything I have tried has been terrific. My family and friends think I am a great cook - I owe all of my best success's to Hugh and Teri.I just discovered the rest of their titles and will be ordering them all!

5-0 out of 5 stars I've finally learned the art of Wok cooking!
When I used to wok, I could never get the sauces right. With this book, I've mastered them!I have tried at least a dozen of the recipes in the book and have yet to have a bad "wok" experience. The flavors ofthe sauces are wonderful and rich, and most of the recipes have basicingredients that can be found in your local market. They are easy and fun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for pot roasts!
I was pleasantly surprised by this cookbook.I was one of those people who thought slow cookers were just for pot roasts. Not so.In addition to main entrees, Bonet includes recipes for beverages, breakfasts, and desserts.I never would have thought to try some of the foods she suggests in my slow cooker. For example, I tried the Breakfast Casserole and it turned out great!Plus, I enjoyed not having to cook breakfast in the morning. It was nice to have it ready and waiting for me when I got up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Cook and I like this Book
I received this book as a gift. I'm not a cook; therefore, people buy books like this for me. This particular one is quite useful. The first few sections have short but to the point information about cooking with a slow cooker. My sister-in-law and I tried the Santa Fe Black Bean recipe with mild salsa, and it had a nice balanced flavor. We were both reading the recipes and many look easy and sound like good eating. Ms. Bonet adds lots of notes with extra suggestions at the bottom to dress up the food. I've ended up ordering 4 copies of this book--one for my sister-in-law. Ms. Bonet did a nice job with this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book
I was totally disappointed with Fondue It! I expected a jumping off point closer to traditional fondue, but instead, the majority of the book deals with elaborate recipes -- spring rolls, grilled polenta -- that are better suited to kitchen preparation, not around the fondue pot, with full guest interaction. Also, the book was laid out in an amateurish, hard to follow way. It was really not what I, as an experienced cook but a beginner at home fondue, was looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to get it
I purchased this book for my cousin as a Christmas present this year. I looked at all of the recipes and decieded that I needed a fondue pot! My husband got me the fondue pot, now I must get this book. There is such a variety of things to make in this book from your basic cheese fondue to dishes I hadn't even thought of making in a fondue pot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, healthy, unique breads from around the world
Having recently relocated to San Antonio and finding a lack of bakeries, I purchased a Cuisinart convection breadmaker. Although the Cuisinart CBK-200 comes with a decent set of recipes, many are laden with fat (with 30% or more of calories coming from added oil, butter, nuts, etc.) and sugars. I try to eliminate oils, fats, sugar and salt from my diet, so I was looking for a healthier alternative to home breadmaking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes
I have tried two different recipes now. Even though the recipes are for 1lb and 1.5lb loaves (and I make 2lb loaves), I just double the 1lb ingredients, and everything has turned out fine.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I tried this book for the first time and used recipe for Summer Zucchini bread on page 90.It was a disaster.I felt there is an error in this one because it only called for 1/3 cup of water for large loaf of bread!Ifollowed this one to the letter and the result was a hard clumpy mess.I'man experienced bread maker user and this was a huge disappoint. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good fondue book
This book has lots of good recipes but it does seem to repeat itself some what by printing out new recipes for variants on a theme. That being said it is still my favorite book of fondue recipes and ideas.
5-0 out of 5 stars Recipies are as easy as they are delicious!
I found many amazing Fondue recipes in this book. My favorites are the Classic Fondue (always a hit); the Dill Fondue and the Toblerone Fondue. I throw a big fondue party every year, featuring four types of cheese fondue and two dessert fondues. The recipes in this book have never let me down. They are delicious and easy to prepare. This book is highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I was Looking For
I had been given a slow cooker a while ago, but could never find good recipes for it.When I thumbed through this book, the pictures and ingredients looked wonderful, so I bought it.What a mistake! These recipes could be made much faster and with the same amount of effort if I didn't even use my slow cooker! If I have to cook everything before I put it in the slow cooker, what exactly is the point? I could cook it using my stove and oven in less time with the same results and effort (something I have successfully tried twice). While the recipes are fairly good in general, this was not at all what I was looking for and to me, it has defeated the purpose of using the slow cooker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful introduction to using a slow cooker in your arsenal
The approach to the slow cooker in this book is a little different than that which most would expect. Some baked beans, some chili, maybe a stew or pot roast -- it's just a matter of choosing a decent combination of raw stuff to dump into the crock, and coming home to mushy vegetables and tender, though flavorless, meat, right?
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good cookbook
The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are probably in your pantry already.I think this will be a cookbook to use again and again. Having a slowcooker is a real timesaver. The meats are very tender and flavorful, and cooked thoroughly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Exciting and Unique Slow Cooker Cookbook
This cookbook has plenty of beautiful pictures to capture the cook's interest. Its strongest quality is the narrow focus on Southwestern cuisine--a welcome deviation from the ususal canned soup and chicken crock pot cookbooks. There are many flavorful, restaurant quality recipes which are clear and easy to follow. Many recipes in this book do not require browning of meat before adding it to the slow cooker. This is a plus if you want a collection of recipes that involve dumping items in the crock before running off to work. And if you host football parties and the like, some of these dishes would just be perfect for a manly, meat-loving crowd. I would describe the recipes as flavorful and not overly spicy (though if you want to kick up the heat, you can do so).I am able to make these dishes in a standard 4 quart crockpot.A few of them I think you could make in the cute little 1 1/2quart crockpots. The ingredients are not difficult to find in my grocery store.I now keep canned habanaro chilies and green chilies in my pantry. To the extent you are called upon to roast particular types of peppers, you can save prep time the next time around by roasting several peppers and freezing them.I like to plate these dishes on large serving platters, spread out grandly with a salad and a few blue corn tortilla chips, just like a fine restaurant meal.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best!!!
Prior to this cookbook, the slow cooker recipes that I had tried were blah and nearly indigestible.I first bought this book at Kartchner Caverns, Arizona.Every recipe (over 12) in this cookbook that I have tried has been excellent. The meals have wonderfully spicy seasoning, and they turn out the first time without needing modification. The book that I bought on Amazon was for a friend.I highly recommend this cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty and healthy recipes
This is a great cookbook.Almost every recipe I have tried has been terrific. The authors are very good at combining spices.I also appreciate the fact that the recipes have been adapted to be as healthy as possible. For example, they give hints on how to roll enchiladas without frying the tortillas first. All your favorite Mexican recipes are here, adapted to the slow cooker, as well as some new ones. The authors visited a cooking school in Mexico, and it shows! ...
