4-0 out of 5 stars buying more copies!
I have had this cookbook now for several months and I have tried several recipes. They have all worked beautifully and gotten rave reviews. The best part however, is the fun reading and the asides that are spinkled throughout the book.I'm here ordering three more for friends for Christmas. Can't think of a better gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Love And Dinner!
A friend gave me How To Make Love And Dinner At The Same Time for my birthday last month (she knew what a crazy life I lead and thought this book might help). Nice to have a giggle as you're making dinner. We've loved every recipe we've tried --- my family tends to be picky eaters, so you have no idea how happy this makes me! Can't wait for Rebecca's next book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Guide to Bread Machine Baking
I love this book. The recipes given are for both 1 1/2 & 2 pound capacity, which gives the user a choice. The book is easy to read and offers special instructions for the more elaborate recipes. Most of the recipes use ingredients that most homes have on hand on a daily/weekly basis... there are not a lot of unique ingredients that you need to make a special trip to the grocery store for.I have not experienced one bad recipe and I've made nearly all of them.I usually bake at least two loaves; bringing one in to work to share... it disappears within a half hour.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!!
None of the recipes turned out from this cookbook and I have a great machine. They were all small loaves and some of them tasted nasty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, simple overview, ok recipies
I've made a small variety of different kinds of bread using the enclosed instructions that came with my bread machine. I've also noticed some inconsistancy from loaf to loaf. I've made a lot of very dense small loafs that tasted great but where pretty small and heavy. Now this is not inconsistancy from the machine but in the ingredience and the differences with the recipies and things you're supposed to conscious of when everything goes together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even if you are allergic to cooking, this is a hip book
In a Japanese kitchen, form follows function, and in essence, Cool Tools is a tribute to kitchen design. Kate Klippensteen's book is more than a catalog of utensils: the featured items are handcrafted works of art. Yasuo Konishi's vivid photos highlight each piece so that the reader can feel the cool touch of the knife blades and the textures of the different graters. There are also revealing photos of old shamoji (rice servers), saibashi (cooking chopsticks) and yukihira nabe (pots) from a variety of households showing that, despite the wear and tear, these tools still have plenty of life left in them.
5-0 out of 5 stars An informative introductory exploration of the kitchen cookware and tools employed in the culinary aspects of Japanese culture
Superbly enhanced with full color photographs from Yasuo Konishi, Cool Tools: Cooking Utensils From The Japanese Kitchen by Kate Klippensteen is an impressively informative introductory exploration of the kitchen cookware and tools employed in the culinary aspects of Japanese culture. Presenting readers with a stunning collection of photographs and knowledgeable explanations for Japanese utensils ranging from the oni oroshi or "devil grater" (which is a useful grating tool for the daikon radish), the saibashi or cooking chopsticks, and the yanagi-ba (which is a long sashimi knife), to the yukihira-nabe (which is a hand made and highly crafted aluminum cooking pot), Cool Tools deftly details a complete selection of the beautifully shaped and functional tools of the Japanese kitchen. A welcome addition to any personal or community library reference collection, Cool Tools is enthusiastically recommended as a simply beautiful compilation of photographs and informative briefings for the many decorative particulars of the Japanese kitchen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
I must concur with the other reviewers. The recipes in this book always turn out great.I never have to adjust liquids/flour or anything. When I get creative with my own ingredients, I use basic recipe amounts from this book and modify flours, sugars, spices, etc.I can always count on these recipes to be right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great results each time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bread Machine Magic Helpful Hints
Of all the bread machine cookbooks I own, this is the one I use the most. It's not just a cookbook, but full of hints and techniques that are useful for any machine. It tells of substitutesyou can use. Such as applesauce for fats, etc. And the recipes are foolproof, as are any of the recipes in the "Magic" series. A must have for a beginning or advanced bread machine baker.

5-0 out of 5 stars The tops for bread machine bread
I am not a bread maker, but my son loves bread so I decided it would be worth it to get a bread machine.I was pretty lukewarm about the loaves it was turning out until I got this book. This book is amazing, just knowing about the "peek and poke" method helped my bread 100%.The recipes are fantastic and I can guarantee my loaves will turn out 98% of the time.I also own the "More Bread Machine Magic" which is fantastic, but if you just get one book get this one.For someone that didn't know beans about bread I can now turn out beautiful and tasty loaves. If you are an experienced bread maker you may already know a lot of the info in this book, but for the novice or previously disappointed bread machine owner this book is tops.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste money on other books

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book before you turn on your grill
I'm a collector, and this is the best grilling cookbook I have ever seen.Recipes are flavorful, varied, and sophisticated, yet simple.I live in a southern state, and we grill almost every evening.I have several of the recipes from this book memorized because I have used them so much. Joe Famularo's other grilling cookbook, the Joy of Healthy Grilling is wonderful, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Source Book on Grilling
I purchased this book in 1989 and have prepared many of the recipes contained in it.They are without exception delicious. It also provides many helps on grilling techniques. If you're in the market for a grill, purchase this first. It will help you make a more informed decision.

My fiancee' and I cannot open this book without finding somethingmore we want to try.All recipes are easy to follow and come outbrilliantly. Our first excursion included stuffed salmon and artichokeswith garlic.Since then we have made at least another dozen dishes.Allsuperb - and they look like the pictures!By the way - the pictures areexcellent...I LOVE THIS BOOK! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Most Smoothie Books
I bought this book and The Smoothies Bible. The Smoothies Bible, I don't really recommend because it was too redundant and the recipes were too similar. This book is the best book if you want smoothies like you get at juice bars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some Unique stuff, but certainly not the best smoothie book
`Smoothies, The Original Smoothie Book' by Dan Titus is the sixth book on smoothies I am reviewing. These six fall into three different categories. The first, with titles such as`The Smoothies Bible' by Pat Crocker and `The Ultimate Smoothies Book' by Cherie Calbom claim to be `everything you wanted to know about smoothies. In this category, the first is far superior to the second. The next category, with titles such as `Ultimate Smoothies' by Donna Pliner Rodnitsky and `The Best 50 Smoothies' by Joanna White are quick references, presumably with a selection of the best recipes. Again, the first of these two titles is the better in this class.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers What's Promised
I purchased this book based on what I saw at Amazon.com. The book delivers what is promised. I really liked the history of and profiles of the juice and smoothie companies that contributed recipes. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for only a few recipes and ideas......
I'm a bit disappointed with this book, there's little substance here that justifies the price...or even half the price.Despite there being 126 pages, there aren't all that many recipes, and then certainly not that many that I'd consider accessible from an ingredient, time or interest standpoint.Half of the pages are full page color photos of prepared dishes - beautifully done, but overkill. You'll need a well stocked Asian grocery store near your house to experiment with many of these recipes - I happen to live 2 miles from one, and they don't stock many of the ingredients called for in this book.A very annoying text format was selected for every recipe - right justification. This is simply too inefficient for quick reference while cooking or when making out your grocery list.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars If cooked right, fried food doesn't have to be oily
Seeing the title of this book was a great joy for me. I've gotten a little weary of all the nutrition police screaming that anything other than steamed or boiled food will kill us all.4-0 out of 5 stars helpful
Taylor's technical information was extremely helpful; giving me the courage to fire up 16,000 BTU's under a big stockpot of 400 degree oil!His suggestion for using potatoes to clean used oil was a great insight. After cleaning the oil, we tried the "taters".Yummy! Recipesare a nice addition to the terrific informative sections.

3-0 out of 5 stars Frying... did we miss the health watch?
With today's health consciousness it was interesting to pick up a cookbook named The Fearless Frying Cookbook written by Hoppin' John Martin Taylor. This book contained over 125 recipes that are almost all fried in onefashion or another. Recipes have the ingredients fried in butter, oliveoil, peanut oil, lard, sesame oil, and vegetable oil to name a few. Therecipes obviously do not offer any nutritional information. Many of therecipes are poorly laid-out making the cook turn the pages to look at thebalance of the recipe that may only be a few extra lines.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Cookbook
I love this cookbook! I was ordering another because my mom took the first one. If you want standard bland American fare then this cookbook is not for you. The dishes here reflect a diverse ethnic range with a variety of flavors and spices. Our family particularly enjoyed the pozole and tomatillo pork stew which is a different take on my chile verde but just as well loved. I highly recommend this book to those wanting to expand their crockpot cooking from boring to exciting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good tasty recipes
I have used this book for years. Someone took my copy and I'm buying another. My favorite no-fuss recipes from the book are Asian-style pot roast and Italian-style beef stew. Even picky toddlers *really* like the beef stew. And if you're in Weight Watchers, you know that the points are low for good-sized portions of slow cooker meals. I highly recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars My dog wouldn't touch the food from this book!
This cookbook was a real disappointment. We've tried 5 or 6 recipes and none of them were any good. My husband started calling my crockpot the crap-pot because the recipes from this book were so bad. Even our dog refused to eat the chili from this cookbook. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Error in ingredient amounts
I tried the Hot Cross bun recipe. Following the amounts listed in the recipe yielded a dough with the consistency of a batter. Comparing the amount of liquid in this recipe to other hot cross bun recipes showed that there was considerably too little flour or way too much liquid in this recipe. I added about 9 T. extra of flour and the batter was still too wet. I also tried the brioche recipe and it was also much too wet. Very disappointed in either the recipe tester or the editor.
