5-0 out of 5 stars The Diaper Lady
I have had this cookbook for a couple of months now and have been able to try numerous recipes. Admittedly, we do not have food allergies, so that is not a concern of ours. But contrary to some other reviewers' statements, the substitutes given for spelt (such as oat) does not make the outcome horrible. We barely even noticed a difference.
5-0 out of 5 stars I would save this book in a fire!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Book, Could Be so much more
I bought this book since my kids are allergic to Dairy, Nuts and Soy.The recipes seemed good.Although it seemed she was torn between writing a kids cookbook vs. a "Gourmet" recipe cookbook. At age 6, many of the things in here my son would not try. But, I appreciated the snacks and cake recipes; and the sources for some of the ingredients. With an allergic child you are always conscious of trying to make sure they have a balanced diet.It would have been nice if the recipes had listed information on calories, protein, carbohydrate, etc. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy food that tastes great
I bought this to prepare meals for a family member with diet restrictions and found the food to be simple to prepare and healthy but most of all delicious. Don't skimp on the fresh ingredients and your family will love every recipie.

4-0 out of 5 stars My least favorite from the Moosewood Collective -- but still a winner
I love all of the Moosewood cookbooks; unfortunately I have to say that this one is my least favorite.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple Suppers & Good Karma

5-0 out of 5 stars Cookbook Perfection
Le Dolce Vegan, the third cookbook by Sarah Kramer is a true joy. I have over three hundred cookbooks, but Sarah's blow my socks off. They're also some of the ones I use the most, even when cooking for non-vegans. Why? Her books are not only full of the most delicious, mouthwatering recipes ever, but they are also full of cook cooking tips, nifty crafts, pop culture, and humor.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag
Many of the recipes in this book are phenomenal.I would particularly recommend "On Golden Pond Mushroom Soup," which instantly became my husband's (and my)absolute favorite soup, though he is not even a vegetarian. I often get asked for the recipe by other non-vegetarians when I make something from this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars coffee cake heaven
Take this review with a grain (or should that be a pinch?) of salt, because I've only yet tried two of the recipes in this book. But if the Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake (which also uses the Faux Sour Cream recipe) is any measure, this cookbook rocks. I've made that cake twice now (one for each time it appears in the book--go figure) and the result was not only the best coffee cake ever to pass my lips, it was at least as good as any cake I've had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book
This book does what many have failed to do....tell the truth. In today's world of grab and go, few people think about the chemicals they put in their body with the food they eat and the illnesses that result from those chemicals. Being one of the worst, this book really made me think. I can honestly say that many of the recommendations are inconvenient, but putting them into practice, though slowly, has definitly made a difference in how I feel. Nothing that is recommended in this book is difficult, just time consuming and inconvenient. But what it boils down to is what you are willing to sacrifice, time or health? For me it was an easy answer.
1-0 out of 5 stars Gave My Copy to Goodwill
Dr. Mercola is just another in a series of hacks that makes a living telling weak minded people every move to make in life.Living into your late 80s is not rocket science, and after reading this book you will not magically discover how to live that long. You ALREADY KNOW how to live that long...you just fail to do the things you need to do.Just use common sense, people!Exercise regularly and eat things that are good for you.If you know it is bad for you, just put it down!

5-0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANTLY ...HELPFUL AND EFFECTIVE
Not all diets will work for everyone. We're all individuals and this book takes the mystery out of why one person can eat lots of protein and fat and be healthy as a horse, and another gets sick from it.Or why some people on a vegetarian diet can be healthy and vibrant and others become weak, listless and sickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, Inspiring, and Fascinating!
Jessica Prentice's book was a joy to read.In fact, it is so readable, I've recommended it as a book club selection to several friends -- after all, we all eat! The way Prentice talks about eating and food, it is like she is an old friend on a passionate adventure.
5-0 out of 5 stars A concise and "kitchen cook friendly" guide to the full-moon celebrations through healthy dining
Full Moon Feast: Food And The Hunger For Connection by Jessica Prentice is an engaging guide to the beautifully intricate art of culinary creations in synchronization with the cycles of an agrarian calendar. Accurately following the thirteen lunar cycles in periods of their yearly contributions and celebrations, Full Moon Feast knowledgeably explores varying moons cycles with seasonally appropriate recipes ranging from Blood Moon Swedish Meatballs; Stir-fry of Pork and Vegetables with Ginger; and Beef Broth; to Egg Moon's Avocado and Hard-Cooked Eggs with a Lemony Dressing; Stracciatella (Roman Egg Drop Soup); and Spring Tonic Nettle Soup. A unique original concept in cookbooks, Full Moon Feast is very highly recommended as a concise and "kitchen cook friendly" guide to the full-moon celebrations through healthy dining.
5-0 out of 5 stars Food and the Human Condition
This book is a great deal more than just a cookbook. Rather it is an historical account of the human relationship with food before the great energy bonanza of the fossil fuel revolution made so many things appear easy, at least in the "developed world." But, as it becomes increasing clear that this bounty is failing, and that the economic and technological precepts upon which our civilization is based have certain fatal flaws from an ecological standpoint, we would do well to remember the wolf moon and the hunger moon that Prentice invokes so eloquently, and to contemplate why the people of old called their months so, and what that could mean to us in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Definitely more than 15 minutes
I am not too thrilled with this cookbook. Many of the ingredients are not items that you would have readily available in your cabinets or refrigerator. Also, it seems like the preparation and cooking of these recipes would definitely take more than 15 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Like It
I think this is a great book for the kosher cook, and the price is fantastic - the lowest I've seen. The recipes are great, and the book is really beautiful. Would make a great gift for anyone who keeps kosher.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook - the best there is
Great tasting easy to make and beautiful recipes! Total delight!

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre recipes with intensive preparation
The recipes in this book are not in the least unique:there is nothing in these books not found in the standard modern cookbooks such as the New Joy of Cooking or Silver Palette. What differentiates these recipes is the superfluous use of packaged foods, such as boxed Italian dressing powder (which is basically salt and common spices), which actually makes them less friendly to the kosher cook since they may not be available supervised.Fishbein puts all her energy into the Design of the food, for instance suggesting that you buy individual pumpkins for each of your 16 sukkot guests in which to serve soup, or that you serve your Shavuot meal entirely out of flowerpots, or that you have different set of dishes for each of the holidays. These little tips do make amusing reading, but for that you can check the book out from the library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nutritous and easy!
My family loves food, we are the farmers market type of shoppers, picking up heirloom carrots, tomoatoes, and raw garbanzo beans. With this in mind, we LOVE this little book.We learned a lot about different sources of quality nutrition for our son (who is now 13 months). Although, we don't use the book a lot anymore, it was a good starting point for finding high quality, nutritious ingredients for little meals. There are some recipes that call for nuts, so we just skipped those until my son was one.No big deal.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very little help or direction
I was very excited to start feeding my son solids.I bought this book and Super Baby Food. This book is NO comparison to the Super Baby Food book. This book would be a great 3rd or 4th addition to your baby food cookbooks but not a very good starter book.It doesn't explain anything in detail.Compared to the Super Baby Food Book this book is awful. If you want detail and direction for feeding your baby, this is not the book to buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
This book goes against everything my pediatrician and allergist recommend as far as introducing nuts to a child's diet.Half of the recipes call for nuts of some type for babies from ten months on.Everything I have heard from the Dr's or read says to wait at least one year and until two or three years if you have a family history of nut allergies.Very disappointed in this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sure Makes Sense
I found out about this book from a review in Family Circle. It makes a lot of sense! It shows that the key to controlling hunger is focusing on foods rich in water and fiber. Think of fruits, vegetables, low fat milk, cooked whole grains. The important thing for weight control is to feel full without eating high calorie meals. This book tells you how to do this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eating right!
Haven't used the book a lot, but when I have, I enjoyed it.Will continue to refer to it.I'm on vacation and actually brought it with me to use.
3-0 out of 5 stars Retired, but not enough time to implement this plan!!
This plan is obviously learned and elegant. I wish it were more practical. Perhaps Dr. Rolls could come up with a distilled menu plan in the future with an eye toward saving time. I was trying to construct a shopping list based on her 3 weekly menu's (which her book could have provided from her database) and for instance the amount of ingredients for the Monday lunch menu with the portobello sandwich was staggering. The lunch menu had a secondary menu for the sandwich...16 items, and in that secondary menu was a tertiary menu for guacomole...8 items; 24 items for a sandwich!!Thats not all!! the tabbouleh menu has 11 items plus a pear for a total of 36 items spread over 4 distant and separate pages in order to make lunch! There are many other such examples. I GAVE UP! WHO HAS THE TIME? Everyone recognizes the problem families have in eating meals together with today's hectic and divisive shedules, this plan is certainly not the answer it only exacerbates the situation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yummy and Healthy
No more thumbing through other cookbooks, searching for the dishes that sound healthy. When we cook recipes out of this book we know we are eating good.Like with most cookbooks, I've picked a few favorites and pretty much ignore most of the book. Some of the recipes just don't sound very intersting. But I like how each recipe lists preparation and cooking time. This is the perfect cookbook for busy, working families who want to be assured they are serving up healthy meals. The recipes are easy to follow, there are no unusual or hard-to-find ingredients, it is nice how the spiral bound book lays flat, and there seems to be a lot of pictures.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shockingly unhealthy!
The chili recipe in this cookbook has just five ingredients in it, three are canned, one processed (pasta) and the other meat. Total sodium based on the labels on the cans I used were: tomato soup 30% of the recommended daily adult intake, beans 16%, broth 58% - total sodium from these three ingredients per serving: 104%. Canned, processed, overly salty, nothing healthy about that! They should have called this book, More of the Same Old Betty Crocker (owned by General Mills).

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly fast, easy, healthy
Some of these recipes are so easy, you'd think they'd be bad, but they're not! They are great!HIGHLY recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide for Food Allergies
I have really enjoyed this book.I understand why the other reviewers rated it as they did though. I also have to stick to a much more restricted diet than the average person on a yeast-free & food allergy plan, however I found it easy to substitute items I could not have with those that I could. My favorite parts of this book are the section on selecting and preparing vegetables and the baked recipes (for which I do a great deal of substitutions). It may be a book for more advanced cooks and bakers, which I am, but it's been a great asset to me and I appreciate having it as a resource.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the first weeks of your diet or for sensitivites
I found this book to contain many recipes that contain ingredients that I can't have (I'm in the early stages of treatment so fruits, nuts, some grains, etc. are out for now) and many ingredients that Dr Crook suggests avoiding for a while in newer books. I'm sure the recipes will be more usefull after I've completed treatment and I'm working on maintenance, but that's not what I needed right now. Some tips on how to cook beans and veggies were somewhat helpfull but I think there are better books out there for the early staged of treatment. Consider getting it from your library before buying it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking at Bread in a Whole New Way!
This book makes it easy to have a new relationship with baked goods.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have not even read this and I know it's good
I have her first book (fabulous, I have already worn it out!). I don't own this one - yet. However, I have been baking bread for months in my bread machine using a recipe (adapted for my machine) from this book (the gluten-free white bread - can anyone tell me how many calories this has???). I am so thankful that I can still eat pizza and other treats I would miss so much, and it's all thanks to Bette. These breads may be too sweet, but that is relative. Use applesauce instead, or some other liquid replacement. Get creative. Learn to be a daring cook. As for these ingredients being too expensive: I don't buy it (especially not if it's too expensive!). You do have to be ingenuous and tenacious, but you can find local ethnic markets that carry these for much, much less than the distributors she is touting. Garfava flour can probably be found at an Indian market for dollars less per pound. Rice flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch are available at any Asian market for about 50 cents a pound. That's about $2 less per pound than the brand name flours at the health food store!!! See what I mean? This is a piece of cake. A gluten-free piece of cake. Bon appetit!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious, easy recipes
I have been on a vegan diet for three months, using the recipes from this book for about 70% of my meals. The other 30% of what I eat is McDougall-approved foods such as baked sweet potatoes, oil-free hash browns and salads. I love the recipes in this book. They truly are easy to make and very delicious. You can get the ingredients at any grocery store, but it might be best to try a health-food grocery store because it will be easier to find foods with fewer chemicals and preservatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Vegan cookbook.
The best thing about the recipes in this book is that they are the real thing. They are not 'adapted' to be vegetarian or vegan. They were always vegan to start with. These are the recipes I feed my meat eating friends, because they're not weird. They are the sort of thing you'd normally eat if you were just having a non-meat meal one day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic!
I'm not even a vegetarian , let alone a vegan, and this book offers such flavorful and simple recipes. Some more time consuming than others but definitely worth the wait!Unless you hate veggies, this book is a must have!I just made the Herb Scalloped potatoes as a side dish and the author was right, it's hard to believe there's no cheese or cream! the pizza with caramelized onions, kalmata olives and tomatoes is fantastic too!. . . . .lots of yummyness!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to the kitchen library
Though we aren't vegans, we do enjoy vegetarian/vegan cuisine and have almost worn our copy of this cookbook out. The recipes taste great, are clearly explained, and don't require a lot of specialty (hard-to-find) ingredients. The conversion index in the back, for metric/US measurements and temperatures is also very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book even if you are not pregnant!
This book is a gem not only for its balanced nutritional information, but just as a GREAT cookbook. Have you ever had a cookbook where you can just pick it up and EVERYTHING you make is fabulous? Well, this is the one. Recipies are easy to make and quick for busy people. The salmon with papaya salsa is out of this world! Whenever I make something outstanding, I always say to my husband, "Guess what cookbook this came out of?" This book has made preparing for pregnancy a culinary delight! Thanks Jones and Hudson!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great nutritional info.
I love this book! I am trying to conceive and I bought it so I could start eating right. I am a healthy eater anyway, but the book offers useful info. about why you need certain nutrients and how much more of each vitamin and mineral as well as how many more calories you should be eating. There are also many good recipes. I have made only 2 so far but both were yummy. I highly recommend this book to anyone pregnant or looking to start trying to conceive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely rounded for your growing belly, growing family
As another reviewer stated, you do not have to be pregnant to reap in the wonderful results of this perfect cookbook.Lots of amazing recipes and chock full of priceless information on the nutrients we need, which foods have them and how to cook them to perfection.I have already lent this book to a friend who is pregnant, and can't wait to get it back.I plan to use this book for any future pregnancies as well as a lifestyle cookery catalyst. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The worst diet in the world- & the most unhealthy
I bought this book thinking it would help my Arthritis and aid me in losing weight. I was so wrong. The food was totally unpalatable. I could not even gag it down. I was hungry ALL THE TIME. I ate and ate and ate. My skin ,which was already dry, became like parchment paper.I developed bumpy skin on the backs of my arms and on my thighs. I had no energy. It was the worst diet I have ever been on (and I've been on them all). Don't waste your money on the Mcdougall books. A better one would be Dr. Mary Enigs book, Eat Fat, Lose Fat. I went on this one and added cod liver oil to my diet and I lost 125 pounds in just under a year with almost NO hanging skin. This diet is rich in fat soluble vitamins which nourish the skin. I was never hungry and the bumps on my skin and my arthritis cleared up completely. This is the real way we are supposed to eat. Even if you think eating lots of saturated fat is bad, get the book anyway, by the time your done reading it, you will be a believer because you'll understand how and why the body uses nutrients the way it does. A book everyone should read. If I could give the Mcdougall books a '0' I would.

5-0 out of 5 stars I ate my way 35 pounds lighter
And I've kept it off for six years!!I want to eat whenever I am hungry--and I need my carbs. This eating lifestyle was the only way for me to thin myself down to what I weighed in seventh grade (yea, before puberty)!Even though this program is 99% vegetarian, I found I can have occasional meat or dairy (as long as it is ultra low fat, grilled or baked) AND my weight steadily decreased about two pounds per week until I was slim.I didn't get a 5+ lb loss the first week like Atkins, but I eat unlimited brown rice, whole wheat pasta and whole fruit, seasoning everything just how I like it.Although the whole foods taste different than white, I enjoy them for their own flavor. It's also important to walk every day.As he says, he makes his program pure, because we can find how we want to cheat all by our grown up selves.LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars I became a Vegan thanks to Dr. McDougall
I had some serious health problems and needed to lose 100 lbs and I started the diet without planning ahead. I thought how hard can it be, since all you do is eat veggies. WRONG! The first time I did this diet, I burned out after 10 days, but in a little over a week, I was almost pain free, had quit snoring and was feeling soooo good, but couldn't stick with the strict diet that I had imposed on myself. I am now doing it again and it is much easier to do. We got Dr. McDougall's DVD's and that changed my life. My husband even went on it when only a few months earlier he said he would never be vegetarian. We are both learning how to do it but the key is to build your meal around a starch. It has made it so much easier. We are having fun trying new recipes, thanks to Dr. McDougall's many cookbooks. I love the fact that Dr. McDougall doesn't eliminate sugar from this diet. If he had, I especially would not be doing it now or ever. Fat is the enemy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
So far, I've made two recipes from this book (shepherd's pie and the mac and cheese) and they both turned out great! I look forward to making some more! I especially appreciate the little hints...for example, it would never have occurred to me to buy acini di pepe pasta for my daughter for mac and cheese without the suggestion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty and simple recipes should please both kids and adults
This book has provided countless ideas for ways to prepare simple, nutritious meals that I actually want to eat as well as give to my son. The snacks section is very helpful and gives recipes for familiar (or almost familiar) treats that ask for less sugar than other recipes do, but which still taste good. I use Baby Bistro's recipe for banana bread exclusively now!
4-0 out of 5 stars great book for older infants and toddlers
this book has awesome recipes for children aged 1+yrs.the recipes are fast, easy, and acknowlege the fact that if it doesn't taste good, your child will most likely not eat it.the recipes also indicate if they're good for freezing, which is great for working moms.this book was a good sequel to the 'super baby food' book, which i found to be harder to use after my son turned 1. ...
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Low Carb Cook book I own
Stella really hits his stride with this one.The food produced from the recipes were absolutley marvolous. We even served company some of the dishes from this book, including baked goods, and had people ask when we stopped eating eating low carb. Its that good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eady to use

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is incredible!!
I just got this book nottoo long ago and I love it! This book is great for people like me: a vegetarian on a budget (though is not limited to people on a budget). I have always wanted to eat healthier for cheap with my hectic schedule - and I found what I was lookng for in this book. This book is chockfull of creative recipes that are healthy and simple. Also includes an excellent veggie and fruit guide which gives you the skinny on buying raw produce. This is great for me when I explore and try new foods. Also has an interesting piece on beer. I have this book prominently displayed in my kitchen as a constant reference. I use this daily! Highly recommended!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best "first" cookbook you can buy
This book didn't make me a vegetarian, but I fully credit it for me STAYING a vegetarian. I found this book during my rocky first few months when I was somehow subsisting on pasta and ramen noodles. This book opened my eyes to what vegetarian eating really meant.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Vegetarian Cookbook!
I have tons of vegetarian cookbooks, and this is the one I use most frequently. Most of my other books have lengthly preparation times, ingredients that necessitate trips to two or more stores, or (my personal gripe) recipes that require other recipes in the book!
