5-0 out of 5 stars Happy Days are here again...
Thank you, Thank you Bette Hagman for taking your disease and making such a wonderful contribution to the rest of the world.I have a husband and now a nephew that both need the gluten free programs, except when I first started with my husband most doctors did not have a clue what we were dealing with. I even went to a dietician at the hospital and she walked away with 3 pages of information, and I had nothing,I just paid the office fee. I made up a lot of things on my own but until I found Bette; I could never seem to find a way to put bread back into his diet. Now he eats everything just like the rest of the world. We are so fortunate that now this disease is more well known and how it is affecting at least 1 out of 250 people, makes Bette Hagman more important than ever.I have all of her books and they go with me everywhere. What a blessing, it has made life so much more for those that are suffering.

5-0 out of 5 stars For a celiac this book is a salvation.
If a celiac wants to avoid the ghastly annoyance of gluten hidden in foods of which you cannot find out what's in it, this book is a bible for us.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent wheat/gluten-free cookbook.
Ms. Hagman's three Gluten-Free Gourmet cookbooks have been a godsend to me.Not only have I been happy with all of her recipes, but I have learned from her cookbooks how to experiment with various gluten-free flours toadapt favorite recipes to be "safe" for me on a more restricteddiet._More from the Gluten-Free Gourmet_ is Ms. Hagman's second book, andthe first in which she offers recipes to be made in a bread machine.Iwould strongly recommend purchasing all three of her cookbooks, but if oneonly wants to buy - or to start with - one book, I feel that this would bethe most helpful one.Enjoy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EVERY THING A PARTY PLANNING BOOK SHOULD BE!
In one word...perfect! This book is great, every recipe I have made from it has been fabulous. (Try the coconut cream pie :)) And more importantly all the foods kind of meld together so each dish is distinct but not so diffrent as to not blend. This book has become my party reference! The parties are creative and go into details like flowers, recommended wines and music. And there are so many parties, from summer pool parties, a kentucky derby party, and big promotions to the standards like Christmas, and Easter! Buy this book you will NOT be disappointed!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Create a special occasion, just so you can use this cookbook
This cookbook covers a nifty range of special occasions--much better than that in any other cookbook I've seen! It includes traditional holidays, non-traditional holidays, and things that aren't holidays at all (the "congratulations on a new job" menu, the "Saturday night with friends" menu, the "Springtime bridal shower" menu, a menu for a big family reunion, a birthday bash, a housewarming, a cozy dinner for two, and more).
5-0 out of 5 stars Reason to Throw a Party
This is simply creative, well done and inspirational. From the unique concept to the exciting layout to the fab recipes, this is one to have and use and celebrate and enjoy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as good as Fosters!
As a student at Duke University, my friends and I went to Fosters for brunch EVERY Sunday. The breakfast specials - pancakes, omlets, and the "special" - were always, without fail, incredible. If we made it there later in the day, the soups, breads, and salads were always a hit.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Collection of Comfort Restaurant Food
`The Foster's Market Cookbook' by Sara Foster, with Sarah Belk King, I bought in my `buy everything I saw on the Food Network' phase, especially after I saw Sarah Foster demonstrate her killer sticky bun recipe on the Food Network's `In Martha's Kitchen' show. This was also in my sticky bun-baking period, before I gave it up as too much work and went back to straight breads.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous cookbook!
I just received Sara Foster's cookbook for my birthday and I have already made several of the recipes and each one turned out fantastic! One thing I loved immediately about this cookbook is the number of recipes! You certainly get your bang for your buck with this book. There are such an array of recipes from appetizers to soups (lots of really good soup recipes), to vinigarettes, to dressings, to entrees and desserts, any cook cannot be disappointed with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Storybook Cakes, stepbystep guide to creating enchanting novelty cakes
I received this book and was enchanted with the many cakes I can make. The instructions are very clear and well worth the price of the book.I was very happy with my choice.Thank you Amazon.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I really love this book.Instructions easy to follow and the pictures are fabulous. I also love the matching cupcakes.Great book to start working with fondant!

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring
Beautiful book, with cute ideas for (mostly) kid oriented cakes. What I loved is that with ever design there is a suggestion for matching cupcakes within the theme, and a suggestion for slight changes in the original design that give you a total different look. Very nice and inpiring pictures. I'm giving it four stars because I am used to the elaborate 'how to's' in Debbie Brown's books and find those directions (and step by step pictures) better. This one is definately one every cake decorator interested in sculpted fondant cakes must have. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where are the English Recipes?
How could a book on immigrant ancestors leave out the English? He covers Irish, Scottish, And Welsh immigrant recipes as well as recipes from many other cultures.Did all the English settlers become United Empire Loyalists and move north to Canada?I'm a Canadian and we ignore the English here as well.We have days celebrating every other culture except the English - Carribanna (in Toronto), Black history month, St. Patricks Day, Robbie Burns Day, St. Jean Baptiste Day (especially in Quebec) but no St. Davids Day (I don't even know when it is).
5-0 out of 5 stars a very simple and divere cookbook
When I was a kid I used to come home and turn on the Frugal Gourmet as he whipped up his meals. It was the first cooking show that I had ever seen and I still have fond memories of it. I bought this cookbook at a second hand store and have loved it ever since. The book breaksdown into chapters introducing and including simple recipes from different countries. Each dish is a typical, common meal that you would be served if you were there. The food is easy to make and all the ingredients are things you should be able to pick up in the local grocery store. The countries range from Cuba, Mexico, USA to Spain, Italy, Norway, France and then on to Ethiopia, Thailand, Egypt, Philippines, and Japan. There are around 60 or so countries represented and I have attempted to try foods from each. I love especially the Cuban, Hungarian, and German dishes. I really like how Smith puts his personal touch in describing fondly some of the reasons he chose the recipes.
5-0 out of 5 stars A family favorite for over a decade
My family has been using this cookbook for about 15 years, and we all love it.My brother and I started using it as high school kids, and loved experimenting with the enormous range of completely different cuisines represented here. When we left home our parents gave us each copies of this book, and it's still a favorite; now my husband loves the Filipino egg rolls, and the authentic Ethiopian section brings back fond memories of time I spent working there.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The junior League at Home:Meals and Menus for Everyday and Special Occasions
It's got great recipes in it.I love it.Can hardly wait to use it.It was recommended by a friend.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good source for family meals and entertaining at home
This `Junior League' cookbook is almost exactly what you would expect from such an organization, where all recipes appear to come from home cooks. I give this book four stars (with a caveat) instead of three because it surpasses expectations in at least two ways. First, it provides four complete entertaining and family menus per month, with instructions on day before and other advance preparations to prepare for the meal. Second, the range of dishes is very international. I was surprised to find a good recipe for Filipino spring rolls. This is not exactly Iowa church supper fare.4-0 out of 5 stars Junior League cookbook not "junior" on taste!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK
This I purchased for my mother as she wanted this book. It is a very well illustrated and the recipes are wonderful. The showing of how to put on a spread is great!! The collectible dishes they show and the presentation is so nice. My mother leaves it out on her living room table and it gets picked up quite a bit. A really nice book to sit and read and glance through the beautiful pictures. A must have~

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Classic Martha!
Even if you aren't a true fan of Martha, you will enjoy her book filled with decorating and crafting ideas that you can either incorporate into your own traditions or expound upon to revise them to your personal taste.4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty to look at !
I have found that Martha Stewart books are to be viewed rather than used as a basis for trying to make anything because her instructions and recipes are often convoluted and/or incorrect.I just do not understand why, with her vast resources, Martha does not hire better and more thorough editors and testers.4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty neat stuff in here!
Although, like the rest of the "Christmas with Martha Stewart" books, they are republished features from the magazine, this one is pretty good. You do not have to use red and green every year; Silver, white, and even pastel colors can be used festively.I love the neat snowman article; unfortunately, here in Houston, we don't get much snow! Cookies. . .oh, I licked my lips over the snowflake wafers, but I've never made them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! TNT recipes from across the country
Although I have over 2,000 cookbooks, this is one of my top favorites. It contains recipes from customers all over the country -- and almost all are preceded by descriptions of why their family loves them, how many people beg for them, etc. Many also include directions for packaging as gifts. The book also contains cute illustrations, many of which provide great ideas for decorating one's own gift containers. There are also a number of quotations, some of which you may want to incorporate in your own crafts. There is nothing fancy about this book or the recipes -- it is primarily down home cooking, and everything I've tried has been delectable -- from layered cookie mix in a jar to main dishes.VERY highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! Great TNT recipes and crafts from all over
I LOVE this book, and everyone on my gift list to whom I have given it has loved it as well. The recipes are the tried-and-true favorites of Gooseberry Patch's staff members and customers from all over the country.Almost all are preceded by brief descriptions (usually about why they're family favorites and/or popular with guests), and many have unique packaging ideas. The illustrations are also warm and wonderful (and provide many ideas for one's own gift-giving).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tops the stack of more "advanced" cookbooks I have
I obtained this book at a garage sale after I was well into my years of being an experienced cook. It is by far the most used book in my extensive collection. The recipes are easy to understand, quick to prepare, and with almost no exceptions, turn out reliably great. I have cookbooks with recipes for the same items that are far more complex, yet not as consistent. I wish I had had this book when I was first starting out, because it would have saved me a lot of time and failures. I, too, was initially put off by the association with Glamour Magazine; don't let that deter you. You will wear this book out if you buy it; that's why I'm on this site - to order a newer copy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still great after all these years
My Mother gave me this cookbook as a gift shortly after it was published and shortly after I moved into my first apartment.I've had and really used this cookbook for all these years. On more than two occasions, I've opened this cookbook and recognized favorite recipes that I'd found in traditional gourmet magazines and couldn't believe were in this cookbook - really ahead of the times! When my niece moved into her first apartment, I started thinking about which cookbooks I had really loved and used on a regular basis. This is the first cookbook I sent her. Yes, I'm a bit embarrassed by recommending a "Glamour" book, but the fact is I think it is a really wonderful cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emabarrising...but I love it!
I consider myself an accomplished, well-informed, nutrition-oriented cook.I have numerous cookbooks, and yet, always return to many of the recipes in here: the blue cheese dip, the lamb, some of the salads and the chicken recipes are the best.I wish to goodness that the publishers would reprint or sequel this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars totally loving it
These recipes are great for any meal, but are targeted for making great lunches, unlike lots of recipes. And they're healthy and low-cost, unlike lots of recipes. And the book contains lots of good reading material in addition to the recipes.I consider this book a real gem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mom loved this one....
My mother for the past 3 years or so, has been putting on these elaborate Sunday dinners after church. She pulls out all the stops and leaves no detail undone. The perfect dinnerware, themes, etc..And let me tell you, the food is out of this world. She's a southern woman and can she ever cook!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Dinners for Beginners
By Bill Marsano. Well! Not so many years ago the "futurists" whose job it is to see what the next few years will bring boldly predicted that Americans would soon eat fully half of their meals outside the home. I laughed; I scoffed; I failed to see the light. Here it is 20 years or so later and the futurists were right. We breakfast at McDonald's and IHOP; we lunch there too; and we eat dinner at "family restaurants" like Sizzler, Outback, Ponderosa and the Olive Garden. Of course when I say 'we' I don't include me, and that's not because I'm a snob who thinks the Rusty Scupper, Mario's Pasta Garden and the like are beneath him (although I wouldn't eat at any of them on a bet). It's just that I just don't like restaurants in general, even the tony and expensive ones. I like to eat at home with friends and family, and I wish more people did. They'd eat better and save a bundle besides.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Inspirational Book
This is a wonderful cookbook in addition to being an inspiration for all families and cooks. My favorite hobby is cooking for my family and friends, and Sunday dinners have long been a tradition going back to my own Grandmother's table when I was a child. It was over her table that I got to know her and my grandfather and share time and fellowship with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Without those times together I wonder if we would be as close as we are today.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
This book has lot of informative history of tobacco and tobacco smoking. The stories incouded were not only interesting but also full of intrigue. It includes a description of different pipes and their uses.I very much enjoyed learning about the humble beginnings of the Dunhill family. It does make a wonderful coffee table book.VERY WELL PLEASED!!

2-0 out of 5 stars More of a reference guide to pipes throughout history...
While this book is filled with fascinating drawings of strange and unusual pipes from around the world, it is certainly not one of those "just sit down and read it from cover to cover type books." Think more of an "a to z" dictionary of pipes. As a novice pipe smoker, I was hoping for something more informative on the actual mechanics of pipe smoking. I would highly recommend The Perfect Pipe by Jeffers or, if you can find a copy, Weber's guide to pipes and pipe smoking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little Christmas book
After Martha Stewart went to prison, I guessed that perhaps the price of her books would go down due to lack of demand for them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Martha the great
If the cookie crumbles, Martha will make pie crust crumbs out of it, just as she is doing in prison (COUGH).Her recipes are wonderful, her holiday spirit contagious...what can you say about a woman who bakes with Elmo and Miss Piggy for her Christmas specials?
5-0 out of 5 stars This book MUST be in your cookbook collection!
I have read this newly-published cookbook from cover to cover today and I LOVE IT!It's not surprising Martha Stewart could put together a collection of recipes representing the Christmas holiday. Some cookbooks only focus on Christmas cookies or only Thanksgiving, but this cookbook highlights sophisticated recipes from drinks (I hadn't seen a Ramos Gin Fizz in a cookbook ever!) to entrees and of course, desserts.Sure, there are only so many things you can do with cranberries, chestnuts, hazelnuts, and pumpkins, but these are not tired, redone recipes just so she could publish yet another cookbook. This book is polished, much like the format of her h'ors d'oeuvres book.Beautiful photographs, great recipes.Anyone who loves cooking during the Christmas holidays, and not just bake cookies, will definitely love this cookbook! ...
