5-0 out of 5 stars Sublime!
This cookbook is amazing. The author is a genius on how to get foods that are equal to or better than their egg-and-dairy counterparts. Love it love it love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars I've got more vengeance than you can shake a stick at
When I first checked this book out from the library I did something that I've never done with a cookbook before--I sat down and just read it. The author is so entertaining, witty, and engaging that I just liked reading the recipe descriptions, punk points, tips from Fizzle the cat, and litte vignettes that are woven into the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!!
Although not a Vegan, I highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone. First, whether or not you are vegan, I am certain that several recipes from this book will become favorites of yours as they did for me. In addition, this book would have stood on its own as a book of stories. If you want to laugh out loud as I did while reading this book on the bus on my way to work, simply check out the stories written in the introduction, before each section and preceding each recipe as well as Ms. Moskowitz' punk points and 'Fizzle Says:' paragraphs. Great recipes for every meal of the day and scrumptious desserts for any time. No matter what your age, gender, musical inclinations or dietary preferences, this is a cookbook for all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is in reply to M. Korogodsky "Michael" stating that this book is "useless", and rating it 1 star:
5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to start Raw
This was one of the first books I got when I started going raw about a month ago (by the way, I have lost close to 15 lbs since going raw, and I haven't even had time to do much exercising yet). The other book had gourmet recipes, but what I love about this book is that it has a lot of basic information. There is a sprouting guide and lots of info on how to eat raw. There are also a lot of basic recipes - cheeses, breads, crackers, even whipped cream - that can help you transition.I have only tried a few recipes in the book, but so far, they have been great (I love the chocolate turtles). The only negative I have found so far is that the recipes don't give the number of servings, and since it is always best to eat it right away, it would be nice to know if it needs to be split before making it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My new favorite "cookbook"
Alissa Cohen's book is well-written, organized and used in our home. This is the first raw food book that I have purchased and it is worth every penny! Those raw vegan cookbooks that I checked out at the library over the past few months were not inspiring and the recipes "assumed" that the reader had experience with raw vegan cooking/lifestyle like sprouting which is totally a new technique for me.This book makes the raw vegan lifestyle more acceptable, reachable and possible using easy-to-follow recipes that taste good and are created using natural, organic ingredients.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here's the Why? Where's the How?
It's amazing to see the explosion in books offering veganism as the solution to the world's ills.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential forAnyone Looking to Prevent Chronic Disease
The author writes with zeal about the "new medicine" - vegan diet.Full of references and detail, this is a solid discussion of how chronic disease can be prevented (and managed/reveresed) with diet.As a vegan for over 3 years and a Registered Nurse, I thought I knew it all, but this book proved me wrong.Your average physician is going to do one thing, wait until you have disease and then prescribe medication or surgery to "manage it."You can do better.Take matters into your own hands and read this book!Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Back to Basics
This book, "The Vegan Diet as Chronic Disease Prevention", reinforces common sense attitudes toward the relationship between the quality of the diet and the resulting effect on health. This is the only book on the subject of health and diet that I have found that is simple enough for anyone to understand and yet sophisticated enough to cause most doctors and other health care providers to re-evaluate their practice of medicating the symptom and ignoring the root cause.Anyone doing research will love all of the credited sources and references, there is no "opinion" in this book, it is all proven with cited sources and studies. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars RECIPES THAT TASTE SO GOOD.
I have made so many of the wonderful recipes in this book, and they always turn out well. A great selection, especially the lemon poppy seed muffins. Delicious. A definite required book for all kitchens...vegan or otherwise!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pancake Recipe
The "Diner-Style Pancakes" recipe on page 201 is the single best reason to buy this cookbook. The pancakes turn out light, fluffy, and delicious every time.My child is allergic to eggs so we use this recipe for everyone, including any guests, because no one can tell that these pancakes are egg-free.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down, Best complete vegan nutrition book!
This answers nearly every question about vegan nutrition that you may have. Although vegans may not need as much calcium, etc.... as carnivores....the authors address all nutritional needs from the traditional RDA's.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Book - "Becoming Vegan"

5-0 out of 5 stars Cookbook Perfection
Le Dolce Vegan, the third cookbook by Sarah Kramer is a true joy. I have over three hundred cookbooks, but Sarah's blow my socks off. They're also some of the ones I use the most, even when cooking for non-vegans. Why? Her books are not only full of the most delicious, mouthwatering recipes ever, but they are also full of cook cooking tips, nifty crafts, pop culture, and humor.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag
Many of the recipes in this book are phenomenal.I would particularly recommend "On Golden Pond Mushroom Soup," which instantly became my husband's (and my)absolute favorite soup, though he is not even a vegetarian. I often get asked for the recipe by other non-vegetarians when I make something from this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars coffee cake heaven
Take this review with a grain (or should that be a pinch?) of salt, because I've only yet tried two of the recipes in this book. But if the Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake (which also uses the Faux Sour Cream recipe) is any measure, this cookbook rocks. I've made that cake twice now (one for each time it appears in the book--go figure) and the result was not only the best coffee cake ever to pass my lips, it was at least as good as any cake I've had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Vegan cookbook.
The best thing about the recipes in this book is that they are the real thing. They are not 'adapted' to be vegetarian or vegan. They were always vegan to start with. These are the recipes I feed my meat eating friends, because they're not weird. They are the sort of thing you'd normally eat if you were just having a non-meat meal one day.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic!
I'm not even a vegetarian , let alone a vegan, and this book offers such flavorful and simple recipes. Some more time consuming than others but definitely worth the wait!Unless you hate veggies, this book is a must have!I just made the Herb Scalloped potatoes as a side dish and the author was right, it's hard to believe there's no cheese or cream! the pizza with caramelized onions, kalmata olives and tomatoes is fantastic too!. . . . .lots of yummyness!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to the kitchen library
Though we aren't vegans, we do enjoy vegetarian/vegan cuisine and have almost worn our copy of this cookbook out. The recipes taste great, are clearly explained, and don't require a lot of specialty (hard-to-find) ingredients. The conversion index in the back, for metric/US measurements and temperatures is also very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Absolute must have book for the new Vegan!
If you are new to Veganism, you are probably missing the familiar flavors of cheese. Although you cannot copy the flavor exactly, the book has many tasty recipes so that you can keep enjoying your old favorites while making a difference for your health and the rest of the planet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing!
The hardest part of becoming vegan for me was giving up cheese. This book literally saved my life (and the lives of countless animals!). The recipes are interesting and inventive, and while they don't taste, look, or behave exactly like cheese, they still have an uncanny resemblance and flavor that truly satisfies. Some of my favorites: Crock Cheez, Gee Whiz Spread, Port Wine Uncheese, Broccoli Pesto Pasta, Cheez Please Soup, Zucchini Chedda Soup, Philly Potato Chowder, Besto Pesto, Tofu Pate, Stuffed Shells, Chickpea Flour Pizza, French Bread Pizza, Cheez-A-Roni, and Tetrazzini. And I don't know what I would do without simple, convenient, inexpensive, and healthful staples like Parmezano Sprinkles (a Parmesan cheese alternative), which I use on almost everything, and Instant Cheez-It (a dry mix for cheesy sauces on-the-fly). People who don't like this book clearly haven't explored it fully. As with any cookbook, there are some recipes I like more than others, but there is so much to love here that you are sure to find your "cheese tooth" satisfied!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Cookbook I Was Always Waiting For!
This cookbook is pure magic!Who would have thought you could combine a few simple ingredients and end up with the most sumptuous sauces, delicious dips, and enticing entrees without using one ounce of dairy? Not to mention the block cheezes which work so well in a sandwich or sliced onto crackers. What amazing alchemy is at work here?I came across Ms. Stepaniak's first uncheese cookbook (The Uncheese Cookbook) several years ago when my then teenage daughter decided to become vegan.I really needed some ideas for food that was familiar, yet vegan, and also delicious, and hopefully healthy."The Uncheese Cookbook" satisfied all these requirements, and then some.I was simply amazed at the delicious recipes and the overwhelmingly positive responses from my family.Needless to say, this book soon became a much loved and much used treasure.I actually ordered a spare copy as I was worried I would wear out the first!

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple is as simple does
Nothing fancy here, but if you need a few quick slow-cooker recipes always on hand, well, here you go. I especially like the stuffed peppers. I found this did the trick as far as comfort food that reminded me of my dear old mum.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not a happy buyer
I've made 2 of the recipes so far and am reluctant to try more. If I had known what I now know BEFORE I bought the book, I'd never have bought it.
2-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressive
As a vegan for almost 10 years, and someone who loves to cook, I am constantly searching for new cookbooks. While the recipes in this book were easy to follow, the few that I tried did not taste very good.I tried four of the recipes, being faithful to the instructions. The recipes seemed to rely on an overdose of spices.I was not impressed.Simple, yes.Tasty, no. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
I am a raw foodist and this is one of the books that I would recommend to others. It has a brief and easy-to-understand section on why we should eat raw. This also includes personal stories, which makes it even the more interesting. Then, Brigitte goes into each food: fruit, vegetable, herb, spice, and wild. This section is like an encyclopedia of the natural benefits of each food. The the last section had a great variety of recipes -- more than I've seen with other books. There are also some Indian raw food recipies, which is my weakness when it comes to cooked food.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I really like all the info. It is really easy for a new raw-foodist!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the One!
If you can only get one Raw Food book--this is it! It includes sprouting charts, drying times for dried foods, Lists of every vitamin and mineral with the corresponding foods--even an alkaline/acidity chart. The recipes are simple. If you wnat more gourmet type stuff, I suggest Juliano's RAW. But this book is a must for every Raw kitchen--the most accessible Raw food book I've come across, and Thank You Brigette Mars for including research on uncooked foods--good research--there's a lot of hocus-pocus, magical thinking out there in the Raw Food World, and this is a breath of fresh air, because it's smart and straight forward. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals, plus
Very good book for people looking to enhance their kitchen creativity. Unlike some of the competition, this does not have a lot of weird ingredients you need to struggle to find -- it's chock full of enjoyable and easy recipes, and can help you to find vegan possibilities for nearly any meal. Highly recommended.
5-0 out of 5 stars love love LOVE!
Love this book, love Sarah and Tanya, love the recipes, love the humor, the creativity, the nice balance of easy recipes and fancier dishes.. I have nothing but love for these gals!I eat the banana pancakes all the time, have tried several of the breads with great results, and the lasagna is awesome!I served it to non-vegans and everyone raved.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for new vegans
For the price, this book is pretty good for new vegans. It contains a lot of interesting and useful information and some very good recipes. However, I've not had the best luck with all the recipes I tried. For example, the, "Light Apple Bran Muffins," recipe stated, "Makes six muffins." I'm pretty sure I followed the recipe correctly, yet I had enough batter for 12 big muffins; and I had to adjust the baking time. I've also had to make adjustments on other recipes I tried. Even so; the recipes are easy to follow, and for the most part, they are pretty good. The index can be dificult to use. Overall, this book is helpful if you're just starting to embrace a vegan lifestyle. You might want to check it out of your local library and try it out before buying it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I really can't believe there's no dairy
I have waited a long time for this new book by my favorite vegan baking author but this book is even more than I expected. The coconut cake is sooo good, the new muffins delic, the new advice on using dry sweeteners makes it easier (and less expensive ) to bake healthy. If I lived in nyc, I'd be taking her classes for sure, but for now, I am making the recipes and happy. Tell all your friends about this book, not only the dairy frees.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and educational book
If you are used to putting evaporated milk and strawberry jam into your ice cream maker to get a quick batch of ice cream, this isn't the book for you. This book neccesitiates time to prepare the ingredients.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Think I'll Miss Ice Cream
This book has really helped me - a devout ice cream eater, now born-again vegan.I have made four recipes in two weeks and this book gives me hope that milk, cream, butter, eggs, and sugar will never enter my diet again.Although it is hard for me to find honey dates (used in many of the recipes), the medjool dates has been a great substitute.Thank you Mr. Jeff Rogers.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
This is incredible! As a vegan looking for an alternative to dairy AND an alternative to soy ice cream I've finally found something that meets taste and texture standards. I made my first recipe tonight, choclate (and towards the end I threw in a little peanut butter to get some ripples) and I am floored.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy, Diligent Vegan Cook
I bought this book almost a year ago, and I've enjoyed cooking along to many recipes, especially the chapter entitled 'Dessert Heaven.' The recipes are easy to follow and include substitution ingredients when others are not available. This book has become my number one cookbook.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed!
I am a relatively new vegan. This is the first cookbook I purchased after much research. My first recipe from this book was "Tempeh and Eggplant Moussaka." I followed Ms. Robertson's instructions to a T. Two packages of tempeh do NOT simmer in 1/4 C of tomato paste mixed with 1/2 C of dry white wine. Not enough liquid. I doubled her amounts of each and it barely simmered. I continued on with the recipe, dubiously. Her last instruction to "bake until hot and bubbly" was never going to happen because even with the "sauce" topping, there wasn't enough liquid. It was a very time-consuming dish that ended up dry and rather tasteless. I am very disappointed and a little angry, frankly, after reading all the glowing reviews here on Amazon. Are you all paid to say these things?
3-0 out of 5 stars good, but adjustments needed for the truly health-conscious
this is a classic. It could very well be described as the vegan's bible, due to both its size and classic vegan cuisine. However, many vegans (including Robin Robertson) have found that simply ommiting animal products from your diet has only mediocre effects on their health and waistlines.Vegan's find out soon after conversion that calories do in fact have to be counted as well as paying attention to the calorie's qualtiy.Robin makes the same mistake many vegan's do in thinking that refined 'vegan' carbohydrates wont harm the body nearly as much as the excessive fat intake of americans has.She sautees by the teaspoon a side that will accompany a loaf of french bread (made with refined flour) or white rice or potatoes, and most of her desserts and baked goods are made with refined flour and sweeteners. In the wake of research showing that vegan fat is good fat, and that the low fat craze has only made us fatter, Robin does far better in her carb-conscious vegetarian cookbook (still vegan, don't worry) which is a little too low-carb for my tastes but puts much more emphasis on good carbs and good fats (which should be the staples of our diets).

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good vegan cookbook.
'How It All Vegan' is my favorite cookbook from when I first decided to go vegetarian. So, I ordered their second book, 'The Garden of Vegan' sight unseen. I was not disappointed. It picks up where the first book left off. Where the first book consisted mostly of the authors' own tried and true recipes, the second book consists mostly of recipes sent to the authors by their legions of fans. The thing I really like about their recipes is that they are tasty, heathy, easy, and they always work. I've fed them to non-vegetarians who don't even notice that there is no meat, dairy or eggs in any of the recipes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful if you have allergies
My 10 month old daughter has many food allergies and this book is super helpful in making her yummy foods. She, and my entire family, are always pleased when another delicious treat comes out of the oven.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick, creative, delicious
This is BY FAR the most clever cookbook I've ever used.I've had it for a while and just recently decided to use it as it is intended.I followed the shopping list and have been making the recipes for the week.My thoughts:
4-0 out of 5 stars This book is for busy single vegans.
I have been a vegatarian for about 7 yrs. I've always wanted to go vegan, but living with my parents I couldn't. Now that I'm old enough and living on my own, I've made the move to vegan. However, it seemed like I was always eating the same things and I wanted to try some new recipes. Of course being on my own, when I used other cookbooks I had tons of leftovers and was eating them for days. I saw this book while browsing Amazon and liked the fact that it is designed for busy single people.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Cookbook Ever
I bought this book for a vegan friend and now want to buy it for myself. It is by far the best book for vegans or people who live alone. The recipes are broken down into a weekly menu with a shopping list at the beginning of each week. All perishable food items are used up within the week, saving money. There is a wide variety of recipes and they are all very simple but full of flavor.I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoy my new beverage of choice. Made from 100% organic soy, taste just like coffee and no caffeine. Finally, I got rid of that wired up feeling all day and feeling great. Look for it on the net by googling "s o yfee". ... Editorial Review

Sound like an oxymoron? Myra Kornfeld argues that choosing to be a vegan does not mean you have to deprive yourself--rather, you can pamper your palate with luscious, healthy food. There are those who advocate salt-free, fat-free, flavor-free food, but Kornfeld sets the record straight right from the beginning. She uses salt for seasoning, and reminds us, thank goodness, that you need fat in a healthy diet. Clear instructions, a chapter on ingredients (including sections on grains, greens, and beans--how to buy them, cook them, and use them), and a short primer on equipment make this a good book for beginners. More accomplished cooks will appreciate Kornfeld's innovation. She isn't afraid to use herbs and spices, and she knows the capabilities of her ingredients. In a simple Rich Stock recipe, for instance, she calls for celery root, and explains in a note that you can substitute celery, but that the root gives a much deeper flavor. Kornfeld's food is voluptuous in presentation, too: Smoky Chestnut and Sweet Potato Soup calls for a dash of rum, and it's served with toasted, chopped hazelnuts and a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg; Hominy, Tomatillo, and Squash Stew is topped with Ginger and Lime Cream made from tofu; and a Fennel, Orange, and Pomegranate Salad is so beautiful and the flavor so complex, you'll swear you're eating four-star cuisine. 5-0 out of 5 stars Gourmet Vegan Food to Please Everyone
This book is a gem in a world full of bad vegan cookbooks. I am not into health food, I am a vegan for strictly animal rights reasons, but whatever I eat better taste really good (and is typically very healthy by default). Voluptuous Vegan has some truly fantastic recipes. Some of the recipes are rather involved but don't let that intimidate you because it is virtually guaranteed to be worth it. The great thing about the book is you can just look at the recipes and see that they are going to work. Any vegan cook worth their salt ought to have this book in their collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS!
I think the title suggests this is not your typical, boring, done-to-death book of vegan standards.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any Vegan or Vegetarian
Most people can't picture a vegan or vegetarian meal in their minds, isn't that the number 1 question that we get, "what do you eat?".Even for the most seasoned of us, it can be hard trying to pull together something new and exciting.
